"Violent crime in Chicago is out of control. In certain communities in the city of Chicago, it is reaching epidemic proportions," Blagojevich said.

eco, there are many illegal immigrants in all large cities. But the gangs that are almost always the main reason we see such spikes in crime around here are homegrown.
Still, even with the spikes in violent crime, homicides are up 6 percent--not a wonderful number, but hardly "out of control," as the governor says.

In my opinion, the governor is making much more of this than is necessary. He's trying to appear to be useful and distract voters from his very real connections with Tony Rezko (as opposed to Obama's rumored but unsubstantiated ones).

Yeah echo, they come up on the weekends and hang out, usually at "Snookies" pool hall. Early Monday it's back on the bus to Miami. Lol!

Is Chicago having a very warm summer? Violent crime always goes up along with temperatures.

"The South Side of Chicago is the baddest part of town.
And if you go down there, ya better just beware of a man named Leroy Brown."
Chicago never changes. Politicians come (and take) and go, but the city goes right on.

Re: "Violent crime in Chicago is out of control."
Chicago was made to look like Gotham City when the new Batman movie, Dark Knight, was filmed here.
Now that the film crews are long gone, it just feels like Gotham City, all over again.
What a violent nightmare. ;-]

what can one expect when you have some of the strictist gun control in the nation? The areas with high gun control along with high unemployment (poverty) leads to more crime

How did the city let this get so out of control?
"Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley hasn't asked for any help but that isn't stopping the governor from offering his assistance."
What has Daley been doing about this?
Does this help explain it: U.S. sanctuary cities list includes Chicago Documented by Congressional Research Service

Chicago has been an out of control violence-infused nightmare for close to a century.
I was there for a year between 1994 and 1995. A week after I arrived an 8-year-old boy died in the projects after being thrown off a roof he was playing on. His brother, who was 10, had grabbed his hand and saved him but the 10 and 11-year-old boys that had thrown the kid off the roof in the first place bit the brother's hand until he had to let go, allowing his little brother to plunge to his death.
The most dangerous people in the city were the 13 to 14-year-old gang members. You could spot them because they all wore the Warner Brothers cartoon character letterman-style jackets, retailing at the Warner Brothers store for about $400. Man, those kids would just as soon kill you as look at you. Such a strange dichotomy, death in a Daffy Duck jacket.

You mean the toll roads that aren't supposed to exist anymore? The ones that were supposed to be temporary right?
Yeah once they get a way to get money out of you they never take it away, at least in Chicago.

About 4 weeks ago we had a meeting at the Radison in downtown Chicago. Our limo was hit by a stray shot. No one hurt but when you consider I just came back from Iraq the week before and was never shot at, I found it interesting.

My advice (which I also follow): NEVER, EVER go to downtown Chicago, or anywhere within the City limits. And, to the maximum extent possible, stay OUT of Cook county. Certainly you should never, ever PURCHASE anything in Cook county or Chicago. Currently 10.25 % sales tax. Highest in the nation, and they are damn proud of it.

Yeah - THAT'LL make a city's economy just soar....
Again, Democrats. And yet the stupid people of Chicago keep voting them in. I don't get it. What are they DOING that's so wonderful?

I work in downtown Chicago, it's not that bad in the loop but once you get past 18th street or so SOUTH it gets real bad real quick. It starts to get better once you get past 159th street or so (I live around 170th south)
Head north and it's not that bad. Then again the North Side is where all the money is.
Used to play basketball at 67th and Stony Island, was about the only white guy around, just don't show fear and you'll do ok.
But yeah, I try not to buy in Crook County if I can avoid it.

I've had to travel to Chicago a lot for work, and we met and stayed in Northbrook. It's a very nice area just north of Chicago, I think, and easy driving distance to O'Hare (but avoid rush hour!). I think I stayed in a Raddisson or Marriott--and it was extremely well-run.

"He is so incompetent I doubt if he would know how to get ahold of them..."
Well, in his defense, he IS a Democrat. Procuring free services from the government ought to come easy for him.

"So THIS is what we are offering Iraq?"
Chicago has been a LIBERAL city for as long as I can remember, you may want to re-think your statement.

Perhaps these misguided individuals could be given a job. May I suggest that there are thousands of dead people in Chicago that will require exhumation prior to the November election. Could work!

Chicago was my "2nd City" in the '60s. Still change planes there on occasion, but rarely get into town. Used to run up and down the Calumet Skyway, get out to Cicero, and in the '80s played rock and roll at some of the new wave clubs. In the summer of '68 I walked through the southside to the Loop. No hassles, no worries. When I got to Grant Park, I was greeted by a platoon of riot helmeted Chicago Police. It was convention time. God I love that city!

I was also there when Mayor Richard J Daley senior gave the order to "shoot to maim". That, by the way is an euphemism for shoot to kill. Times were turbulent then. One of the interviewees alluded to those times on the video. I don't think Jr. wants to recall those days. It also looks like the Governor is doing a little arm twisting, and trying to hold trump cards in his hand with this issue.
