In his most ambitious foreign policy speech to date, Barack Obama robustly defended his stance on Iraq yesterday, accusing the Bush administration of pursuing a "single-minded" foreign policy that has cost thousands of lives, tarnished America's image and emptied the nation's coffers.

His orientation is difficult to contest on several levels. If carried forth in practice it would restore confidence in many places at once - both foreign and domestic.

As a preemptive gesture to the McCain hawks who will probably wish to discredit Obama's remarks on the grounds of "cut and run" and any number of other ideological red herrings, he probably wouldn't have said what he did if there had not been some significant CFR backing for these statements... Anyone here at Propellor have the inside track on CFR policy? If so, please spill your beans. The rest of us a starving for information...

that covers all bases - can't go wrong or make a commitment with that statement.

Mr Obama says that, as president, he would completely revamp America's approach to the world by dealing with the challenges of al-Qai'da terrorism, nuclear proliferation, energy security as well as climate change.

I'm not sure what revamp means.

Did you see the headlines? The Bush admin is now meeting with Iranian leaders, the "evil nation of terrorists", over nukes.

Remember how the Bushies reacted when Obama first proposed it?

less & less are doing business with America as it's currency continues to depreciate as the American deficit escalates. American unemployment continues to rise and will continue to do so.....GREED is the underline devil in all American foreign policy.

Well, as a footnote, bushie said he would leave Iraq if asked to do so by the Iraqis. Just another of his lies?

Perhaps it is too early to say so openly, but the real problem is that America cannot afford the military imperialism that it has been pursuing over the last century and especially since Truman made enormous errors after WWII (the start of the secret "national security state" and of zionist treason in our government).

Like the British before us, it is now time to decide between military empire and democracy. The sooner we abandon anti-american imperialism, the less traumatic the adjustment will be.

Finally, some rationality to our foreign policies that has been heading in the wrong direction for so many damn years. It's time we started acting like a democracy rather than an empire builder.
