The print media, following the lead of the broadcast media, has devoted far too much of its resources to subjects which have no real bearing on people's lives, and it has failed miserably in its proclaimed obligation to report the facts, fully, accurately, and quickly.

The principal managers of dozens of newspapers and magazines DESERVE to be fired. Unfortunately, they will take down a few hundred honest employees before they go.

I agree that newspaper editors often make terrible decisions about what to publish, but it's not always those in charge of the daily operations of newspapers who deserve to go.

This week, the publisher of the LA Times and the executive editor of the Chicago Tribune (both owned by the Tribune Company) announced their resignations in response to drastic cost-cutting measures planned for their papers. (The Tribune Company was recently bought by Sam Zell, a real-estate magnate who has no experience in media.) And the editors-in-chief of the NY Times and Washington Post also stepped down within the last month.

According to all of your previous posts about the media Oscar, all of the Media in the US is Zionist owned and run. So according to your own accusations, it must be the Jew's fault that the news is manipulated and that all of the honest employees will be fired. Sig Heil 1-2 Oscar.

Let's see...Rush just signed a huge multiyear contract because his Conservative show makes massive dollars and the Liberal newspapers are sinking in the wake of Air America's fiasco. Makes you think about what people actually want to hear and read about current events.

People are not reading newspapers, they are on the net or watching TV. Newspapers are being bought by mogals like sam Zell, a hard right zioist who bought the chicago Tribune, fired all the reporters and turned it into an advertising tabloid, and the LA Times, which used to win Pulitizers for journalism, Zell gutted the journalist, and turned the LA times, an national treasure into a hard right pro zionist tabloid advertising vehicle. Now, hes trying to sell the lot to rupurt Murdock as a package at an enormous profit.

Any journalist worth a crap is in TV if he can cater to the hard right corporate owners and the hard right operators, like Roger Ailes, on the board of the RJC and AIPAC, creator of fox news and inventor of point of view journalism which has swept all news broadcasting and infotainment tabloidism where the news announcer editorializes everything in a slanted biased way.

Game over for the 4th leg of Democracy.

Good journalist have their own website.

Good journalist have their own website, or are just laying low, not being assigned to research the lies for going to war, not being assigned to cover americas insane relation revolving door bewteen the hard right zionist American Enterprise institute and the presidential advisers like wolfawitz who invented the Iraq war, journalists not being assigned to cover the revolving door between political office and the CEO's of the military industrial complex, like Cheney and Rumsfeld, journalist not covering any of Cheneys financing and training of terrorists to invade Iran from across the boarder in Iraq, trying to stir up a reasong to release the airforce and navy for a nation building bombing campaign, the 3rd front, journalists not covering the massive protests in Czech rep. against star wars silos, build by boeing after being awarded a 13 billion dollar contract for the non working system, but hey, that much money, have to do something right, like restart the cold war.

So, let me get this straight- If people are not reading newspapers and some Jew buys the Chicago Tribune, fires the reporters and turns it into an advertising tabloid, that isn't his right under our system? And if Zell wants to sell what he has purchased at a profit to anybody that wants to pay that price it is illegal and immoral? You sanctimonious idiot!!!! I don't hear you groaning and complaining about any of the banks being bought and sold at profits, or any of the numerous companies that are being gobbled up by larger corporations at unheard of profits. I only hear of one person who happens to be Jewish. Since this is a pattern that seems to emerge almost daily from your posts, I can tell you without hesitation that your comments are pure hate and have no merit on this thread.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Do you even READ the L.A. Times? If you did, you'd soon see it's far, FAR from being "hard right". It's so left-leaning, we have a nickname for it: "The Trotsky Times".

When Dan Rather was fired, it was game over for journalist. The Corporation that should have backed Dan Rather, whether he was right or wrong, determined that the backlash from the Walmart patriotic chinese 'merican fleg waving evangelicals, who the Corporations sold billions of dollars of commercials to, who they wrote moronic tv programming for, the corporation decided they should fire Dan Rather for running a story critical of Bush, and exposing his AWOL status in the Texas National Guard during war time.

When Rather was fired for investigating this, unlike the watergate investigation, when enourmous pressure and law suit threats were pouring in, the NEWSPAPER had the balls to not fire Woodward and Bernstein, and Nixon was defacto impeached (resigned). Not so with the current hard right 100% zionist, 100% for profit, corporate owned and operated ABC/Disney /Israel, NBC/General Electric/ Universal/ CBS/Westinghouse Fox News/news corp/ murdock and viacom, hard right zionist.

Rather didn't do his homework and used an unreliable source. He paid the price.

Dan and company was caught creating news with the Killian documents. His staff some how came across a set of "official" documents. Subsequently, several typewriter and typography experts concluded the documents are forgeries, as have some media sources. Wouldn't you think with all of Danny's "instincts and abilities" he would have realized they were fake? If they would have been real, they would have been been typed. The documents were clearly a windows based print. Even though they were faxed copies, it's clear they were fake. Then again, like all liberal media outlets, any attack on President Bush is a good thing, fake or otherwise. That's why the media continues to lose share to the Simpson's...

When the hard right white house hires tony snow, and the hard right fox news infotainment propanga machine point of view journalism hard pro zionist (Roger Ailes) hires freaking Karl Rove.....and still remains the top rated news cast in the country, its a reflection of the gullibility of this country.

50% of americans think science and evolution are just BS liberal crap.

80% of americans cannot name the vice president.

90% of americans cannot name the secretary of defence. 90% of americans can name britney spears.

Its a power vacuum, and the republicans have harnessed it, and are encouraging more of the same by killing public schools, and financing home schools and religious creationist schools.

GAME OVER. This is NOT a democracy anymore. TAke the bill of rights and line your bird cage. Take the constitution and wipe your arse with it. When less that 50% of americans even vote, its game over.

You misspoke. It should say; 50% of Americans think the science of evolution is just liberal crap.

No power vacuum here. It's not republicans/democrats. The school system is broken, needs a fresh perspective. Maybe a little critical pedagogy is needed to change the course of public education. Our society is pop culture oriented, not current events oriented. That's not a republican problem, it's a societal problem.

actually he is much close than you give him credit for. America is run by AIPAC which is a front for the Bilderbergs and corporate fascism. Some of those killed are Jack & Bobby Kennedy, Martin Luther & Malcolm X. Nothing will change in America until a person like Ron Paul get elected. Obama has been giving his marching orders and McCain is an automatic follower of the "New World Order"

Well, sketpic, it's rather easy to just throw insults like a yellow bellied coward and provice no substance of your own, but then that's pretty much the definition of a republican nowadays.

Vote skeptic, vote republican, because 'merica needs some more vacuum headed moron swiftboating aholes to run everything.

Maybe, the print media is standing at a turning point. The internet has caused very different habits of reception and the question is, if (and:if yes, in how far)the newspaper industry has to adapt to the facts. As I see it, there are two ways to react: Either one could only publish online in future, giving in to the continiously sinking number of black-on-white readers, or one could try to make the appearent anachronism of a touchable, foldable and shareable newspaper a sign of quality, perhaps even something intellectually elitist. But the most important charge now, if this will not already have been a kind of agony, is to win new readers among the youngsters. Schools should get the possibility to offer free reading for a certain time, the online versions should not replace the print versions any more, but help to get deeper into some subjects and share your opinion with other readers. I am looking forward every morning to my daily newspaper, and I hope that print media will survive!

I know. Constant propaganda that puts Bush in a bad light is just one of the reasons so many readers cancelled their subscription to the Milwaukee Urinal. Er....I mean, Journal. And it's the reason I stopped reading the Trotsky Times....er, Los Angeles Times, years ago.

It's more like this. Wealthy wannabe media mogul wants to buy media outlet. He pays top dollar. To recover the cost of the purchase, corners have to be cut. To generate more revenue, all controversial or overpaid journalists are told to accept cuts in Insurance or benefits, or leave. Wannabe mogul accepts advertising dollars from corporations that do not sell products to consumers. Mogul wants to give self a bonus of $1 Billion for showing profit in first year of media purchase.

Newspapers have been run by editors with no business experience. The result has been stupid business decisions...oddly enough.

Editors do not really need business experience; their jobs are in the newsrooms. The business part is handled by the publishers, advertising and accounting departments.

i think its very socially insensitive to call this massive lay-off of the dem campaign staff "black wednesday"..we cant say black hole or black belt or blackberry anymore..somehow african-american wednesday doesnt have the same zip--maybe danrather wednesday or jessewednesday--although since these are people working for the obama campaign and democrats in general ..maybe black wednesday is sort of kind of accurate..but then we have blue monday and black friday too..so much to polically correct ..so little time

10 years ago, at a family dinner surrounded by old people who just recently learned to use the computer, i predicted in 20 years all your news would be on the Computer. Instead of going to the icy porch in the winter you will take your coffee to the computer room. They laughed at me. Now they are learning to use the computer before life passes them by.
