        I want the monsters who attacked America and killed more people than were killed in Pearl Harbor, to be stopped. No MORE. It wasn't a country that attacked us, but Muslim extremists. And if they are he77 bent on attacking us, we will most certainly show them what they can expect if they ever get such a brilliant idea again.
        The 911 attacks have not bolstered the power of the muslim dynasty, and if anything, it has gained the attention of the world to the horrific tactics used by these troglodytes, not only to people of other religions, but on the women and children of their own religion.

  So did he actually kill the soldier or does that matter to the Libs? He was actively participating as an armed combatant in the battle but that's no proof, right? Some officer should have given him the coup de grace on the battlefield and finished off the rest of the Taliban wounded.

        How about AT LEAST as well as serial killers get treated in US or Nazis who were running the death camps were treated.
        All in all, he should be treated NO WORSE than Jesse Spielman, US soldier convicted of rape and murder was treated.
        The simple fact that Omar Khadr was held for six years before being charged with anything shows that he was treated worse than a convicted murderer and a rapist. And that's without taking into the account that he was subjected to torture in the process.

        I've said nothing about whether listed criminals were treated well or if they were treated poorly, so I have no idea who it is that you are agreeing with.
        I simply stated that the same Constitutional and International standards should be applied to Omar Khadr, as to the listed criminals. A point that seems lost on you.
        I don't expect you to figure out that the "well treatment" of criminals is a direct result of following the Constitutional law, which probably makes you the expert not just on Constitutional law, but on what justice is.

        If you choose you can read the after action report of the an American Special forces soldier - the only eye witnesses immediately after the grenade was thrown.
        When he entered the compound there were two men alive, Khadr and one other. The other man was facing the soldier (ie. facing in the direction that the grenade was thrown). Khadr was sitting on the ground with his back to the American soldiers.
        So your statement "being found on the battlefield pulling the pin on a grenade" is quite different and quite a stretch from the contemporaneous report given by the only eye witness.
        But carry on, don't let the best available evidence disturb your notions.
        Put Khadr on trial, in a proper court, with proper rules of evidence and competent independent counsel. That makes sense - the issues in this case, both factual and legal, are a far cry from the absolute black and white situation you speak of.

        So everyone exposed to combat because they are wounded is guilty of murder? By what legal precept.
        It doesn't cut it.
        The most logical thing would be to ship him back to Canada and let Canada try him for treason. Canadian troops are in Afganistan and have been since the beginning. Khadr may or may not be guilty of murder (a stretch I think based on the evidence). But, by virtue of his citizenship, he is surely guilty of treason against Canada.
        I don't think you grasp the essence of my argument. It is not that Khadr is some innocent waif, swept up erroneously. Based on what I know about this case he was clearly active in the Taliban, taking up arms against his own country, that being Canada. Whether he put those arms to lethal effect or not, is somewhat irrelevant to a charge of treason.

        The central point my argument is that if Khadr is to be treated criminally then he is entitled to the protections afforded an accused criminal. The rule of law and the constitution trumps the seemingly exigent circumstances of the moment.
        Further, if he is treated criminally the best evidence available, that of the Special Forces soldier casts a reasonable doubt on who actually threw the grenade that killed Speers. That is the crime (or at least the main crime) that he is accused of. That said, in a properly constituted court of law there is a likelihood that Khadr would walk on that charge. The state cannnot sustain the "beyond a reasonable doubt" burden of proof that is incumbent upon it.

        Whether Khadr was a soldier or acting as a soldier and therefore entitled to the protections of the Geneva Convention is a whole other and completely separate argument. And one that I am sure competent counsel could and would raise in Khadr's defense. If Khadr were found to be a soldier that would effectively render him immune from a charge of murder if that death occurred in the normal course of battle, ie. if it was not the result of an atrocity or a war crime.
        The long and the short of it, Khadr's case is significantly more complex and much grayer than your black and white "being found on the battlefield pulling the pin on a grenade".
        Underlying my entire position is that you can't defend freedoms and rights by denying freedoms and rights. As soon as that happens there is nothing left to defend.

        The Taliban was and/or represented the government of Afganistan at the time that Afganistan was invaded/undermined.
        The Nazi's were the government of Germany during WWII. As reprehensible as their policies and activities were, the men that served in the German forces were treated as soldiers, regardless of the nature of the people that made up the government.

        UN Security Council resolution 1333, passed in December of 2000, made various demands on the Taliban as the agency in control of about 95% of Afganistan. While official or formal diplomatic recognition was withheld as you point out, the fact of a Security Council resolution held that the Taliban were the responsible party for Afganistan that surely connotes tacit or de facto agreement that the Taliban were the Afgan government.
        The resolution passed unanimously, which would of course include the US.
        Coincidentally this resolution demanded, inter alia, that bin Laden be handed over to the authorities. Such is the weak state of the UN that had this or similar previous resolutions have had any enforcement teeth history might have been significantly different.

        I'm sorry your friend died. No, I'm not trying to be funny. If the two people you mentioned had actually seen this kid kill your friend, and there is incontrovertible evidence for his guilt, then the administration should have been able to get a conviction for him a long time ago. I suspect that is not the case. Alternatively, the administration is more incompetent that I have thought so far.
        I'm not saying that this kid is innocent, only that he hasn't been found guilty yet. If and when he is convicted, I have no objection to his punishment.

Yes, they supported al Quaeda, as did many countries, but they were not the attackers. The Taliban was asking for proof of Osama bin Laden's guilt before they would extradite him. The answer was war.

        This is the problem. We are fighting a war through lawyers. People caught on the batlefield are guilty of conspiracy at the least. If this was so easy to fight in a black and white world. This war would had never started. But we live in a gray area. Dealing with gray characters, fightng a gray war. If 9-11 woud had happened in Paris , London, or Montreal, two things for sure. Those countries would had wanted help from us. Two, the U.S. would had asked to help in a heartbeat. The U.S. have asked for little to nothing in return.
        What we need to do. Is win this war. Then tell everyone to f*ck off, don't call us when you need help from floods, cyclones,famine, earthquakes, or dicators. You solve your own problems. Then we will see what happens!

        Iraqi oil is not for providing cheap oil for the people but to make a few people very rich. It's safe in the ground right now. It will be even more profitable to sell when it hits $200 or $300 a barrel and when all the oil contracts are in place giving most of the profits to US companies.
        Besides, the US has a hard enough time maintaining its world benefactor image as it is. Imagine what that image would be like if it just took the oil without any compensation.
        The war itself and the resulting volatility of the price of oil is making a lot of people rich too. Consider: if you know that there will be an announcement about drilling, you shortsell oil before the announcement, and you make a bundle when it drops. Alternatively, if you know that there will be an announcement that war with Iran is a distinct possibility, you buy oil and when it skyrockets after the announcement, you pocket the gain.

        Oh, I don't approve of their methods, but who am I to tell them how to live in their own country? The US still executes people and imprisons more per capita than any other country, but I won't go protesting about that either. It's none of my business. The most I'll do about it is express an opinion.
        Invading two countries and causing the death, injury, and displacement of millions of people, locking up people in Gitmo for years without any charge, torturing prisoners, and trampling on human rights, just to mention a few things, is hardly shoplifting a piece of bubble gum. Not that there is much in common between the US and Jesus in general.

        Where in the world did you get 31? I have a Nephew working in Iraq rebuilding roads. I fear desperately for his safety, but he feels good about the people he is helping, and the contribution he is making to the world.
        BTW, most adults are aware that the average person uses less than 10% of thier brain, so I would be pretty freakin awesome if I could do the 50% level wouldnt you say?
