Not content with his handwork in the U.S., the little shrub wants to break the entire world.

Let's see. An article written by an israeli quoting an unnamed "pentagon official" (who, if he exists, might also be an israeli citizen). Sounds like more "pentagon propaganda".

But the president is really preoccupied with the nuclear threat against Israel and I know he doesn't believe that anything but force will deter Iran.">>>>
He doesn't "believe?" What else has the dunce tried? He WANTS this to happen. And on what grounds would Israel attack Iran? Because their President has a big mouth? Does bush ignore our own intelligence that says Iran stopped its nuclear build up in 2003, & doesn't have the means to complete a weapon? This looks suspiciously like the prelude to attacking Iraq.

You don't really think Israel is going to sit back and let a country whose leader has sworn to "wipe Israel off the map" develop the means to do so, do you?
For Israel it's a matter of life-and-death and little choice. That's why Europe (who would be threatened next by Iranian nukes) is willing to sit back and let the Israelis take care of the problem for them. (And then they can condemn Israel publicly while applauding privately, just like they did when Israel destroyed Sadaam's reactor).
Israel would much prefer to see diplomacy handle this. But unfortunately the rest of the world has so far been unwilling to put enough teeth in sanctions to actually motivate Iran to change course.
They can sit back confidently and know that Israel will eventually solve their problem for them.

I don't think Israel is going to do anything unless all other options are exhausted and Iran's crossing of the nuclear threshold is imminent. But waiting for Iran to already HAVE nukes would be suicidal for Israel.
BTW, the US wasn't dragged into any war when Hizbollah launched thousands of missiles at Israel 2 summers ago. And it didn't happen during the 6 day war in 1967 or the 1973 Yom Kippur war either... so I don't think that's a real concern.
I also doubt Iran is stupid enough to attack US forces in the region directly. Iran is usually only willing to fight it's enemies down to the last Lebanese or down to the last Iraqi. If it affects them directly, watch how quickly they change course...

"I expect Israel to take action when a threat is imminent, and not before."
Then your expectation would be completely stupid. Israel knocked out an Iraqi nuclear facilities in a surgical air strike a couple decades ago and was quite successful at not only eliminating a threat but preventing wholesale escalation of war. Iraq later turned its attention to Kuwait.

Actually it came 5 years late, but just about everyone finally did applaud publicly for Israel's destruction of Sadaam's nuclear plant. Even Europe...
And for the record, Iran regularly boasts how it will wipe Israel out. Israel, on the other hand, is just trying to survive in a dangerous neighborhood and has never threatened to wipe out any other country...
So there's a big difference between Iran and Israel having nukes
