Why does the US feel they need to tell everybody what to do? Why do we feel we have to be the world's conscience and the world's policeman? The US has neglected Africa for centuries and now all of a sudden we want to impose sanctions. They must've discovered oil in Zimbabwe. Invade 'em, bomb 'em Georgie, do what you do best.

"The US has neglected Africa for centuries and now all of a sudden we want to impose sanctions."

We have? You must not have been paying attention to the hero's welcome Bush got on his last trip to African nations. The Bush administration has done more than any other to fight AIDs in Africa.

As for the U.S. and the U.N., many of us would be more than happy to remove the U.S. from the U.N. and kick the U.N. right out of the U.S. -- and stop funding it far more than any other nation.

Why do we feel that the US should be the world's policeman? Because no one else will step up and take the job.

We need to be careful about dropping sanctions from our recipe of foreign policy. By doing so, we are limiting our ability to negotiate, and engage in talks with these countries. Like it or not, no matter who is in power, the UN will look to us to lead. After 8 years of unilateralism, I would think you be excited to hear that Obama wants to engage in using sanctions more pre-emptively to push his foreign policy pronouncements.

This is exactly the kind of policy Obama will persue.

for those that believe that it is wrong for the US to push others around by placing sanctions on a country that is run by a socialist leader that the left in this country cheered for when he came to power. Then so have your way. While the US is at it, we can cut off all foreign aid to all the other countries of the world from our government. Would you like that all of you that believe that we should not sanctiona country that when its socialist leader came to power was a food exporter and is now a food begger?
