Here's a man who opposed civil rights, a holdiay honoriing Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Also, he opposed extending the Voting Rights Act in 1982.
He certainly was not an "unwavering champion of those struggling for liberty."
This man was considered a bigot. He used racial divisiveness to get votes.
