I usually do not speak ill of the dead. This man, however patriotic and supportive of the United States, was a rather fiesty politician. He served his constituents well, although I never cared for the same beliefs he held.

Wow. You were a lot kinder than I could have been. I hated that man in life and I will make sure that his legacy is truthful. He was a self proclaimed bigot who caused the deaths of many of my friends for no other reason than his hatred.

Here's a man who opposed civil rights, a holdiay honoriing Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Also, he opposed extending the Voting Rights Act in 1982.

He certainly was not an "unwavering champion of those struggling for liberty."

This man was considered a bigot. He used racial divisiveness to get votes.
