  Why did I post this? Good question!

  One: Anyone dumb enough to smile while getting his or her mug shot taken deserves a mandatory sentence!

  Two:

  "Kelly Hall, mother to the arrested 16-year-old, defended her son, saying he did not know the others who were fighting and the gun found underneath his car seat was not his.

  "'I'm frustrated with this situation,' Hall said. 'I don't understand why he couldn't come home for house arrest.'"

  Lady - a term I use QUITE loosely in this instance - your teenage son was found with SOMEONE ELSE'S handgun under the seat of his car! Is it just possible that handgun was stolen??

  Some people shouldn't have children.

  Stupid is as stupid does. Beating on a car over a pack of cigarettes is extremely stupid. one whack will pay for many many cartons. Turn off brain and act.

    16 year old pot dealer .. shoots and KILLS an 18 year old buyer because he shorted him 2 dollars.. 2 dollars.. and the citizens of Florida will have to pay to support him THE REST OF HIS LIFE.....

  Why can't we book the parents into the cell next to their brainless wonder offspring? I don't understand people like this. Both my Grandson's work. One is working his way through College with an athletic, and an acadmic scholarship. He started out as a part time Porter at the Auto Dealership his father manages. He worked him ten times harder then the other porters, because he had to be an example. So his fathers boss noticed how hard he was working just offered him a $30,000. a year position as appointment clerk. He will only go to school for 20 hours a semester. He didn't expect his promotion, but he got it with, Ta Dum Hard work.

  Oops. Got off on a tangent. What I was thinking about was how sad it is these kids have no work ethic. My grandchildren started working as soon as they were 16. Several of these people were in their 20s. That is not a child anymore. If they had jobs they wouldn't have to steal their cigarettes.

    In the meantime, be happy about your two grandsons. Sounds like they were blessed with common sense - like their grandma.

    Work and ethic is not in some peoples vocabulary.

    If those two words are then they are considered evil and worthy of total disrespect and loathing. They expect to live off of other people, including the state, their whole lives and are proud of it.

      Delay was charged in 2005 with conspiracy and 2 counts of money laundering. The conspiracy charge was dropped, though prosecutors are attempting to have the charge reinstated, the money laundering charges stand.

      Though I digress, the article is disturbing, as all senseless violence is. There is no political solution as Anthony Burgess so eloquently described in his novel "A Clockwork Orange" (Unless you believe in sterilization of people who reject parental responsibility. Of course if you are for that, who decides if YOU will be a fit parent? Isn't that perhaps the most interference from government into personal lives imaginable?

        Are not all those who abort unwanted pregnancy merely admitting they would fail to be a good parent perhaps providing a public service?

        A society is much more than merely it's legislation and policy. A society that welcomes, embraces and integrates

        youth in a meaningful way will have less of this type of problem. This is not a suggestion about any kind of politics or government program, but a personal involvement and commitment from all who can offer such things in a nesting set of community spheres. Individual, family, business, neighborhood, city, schools, all play a role. In most cases, it is the inability or failure of parents to parent, usually by the time some intervention is made, behavioral and psychological patterns are already established. It's sad.

        But nothing new. All societies throughout history have experienced this.

            I would be interested in learning just which archaeologists made that discovery, and when and where it was reported. The oldest tablets I am aware of were dated from the reign of Lugalzagesi in Sumer, about 2930 B.C.E. That would make the tablets you describe the oldest writing ever discovered by more than 1000 years--a sensational find. It is also interesting that you ascribe them to "southern Babylonia," since you date them as more than 1500 years older than Babylon itself. Could they have been written by a pre-Sumerian culture?

          Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion provider, was also a forceful advocate of forced sterilization of "the unfit." Of course, she was also an excellent judge of just who was unfit. Largely through her efforts, which were supported by such notables as Eleanor Roosevelt and (astonishingly) Helen Keller, 24 states passed involuntary sterilization statutes during the 1920s, and over 50,000 Americans were forcibly sterilized (24,000 in Virgina alone--California was second, with about 4,000). It's just another way that "good government" can take "care" of its people.

            I agree whole heartedly about the lunacy of believing sterilization is an option of course, I quote Lawrence Kutner in his book about parenting "Parent and Child" 1991 regarding the 6,000 year old tablets. Similar statements have been made all through history regarding the lawlessness of youth, I am merely suggesting it is an issue that there is no political solution for.

              Dr. Lawrence Kutner is a clinical psychologist, not an historian, and the statement you "quote" is inaccurate.

              But perhaps you meant to quote Dr. Lawrence (Larry) Kutner, a character on the television drama, "House." That Dr. Kutner (played by actor Kal Penn) is supposed to be a sports medicine specialist, and is probably no more reliable as an historical source than the other guy.

              The author of Parent and Child is in fact an expert in psychology and relations between youth and parents, as this is what the article is about. If he overgeneralized the time period of these tablets, it makes no difference whatsoever about the info as it relates to this story. People have had these perceptions about youth in many times and places, that is the point. If his date is off, complain to him, perhaps he'll fix it in the next publication.                 I get it. Since you are a founding member of "Propellertalk," and an obviously superior person, there is no reason you should be expected to post accurate information--the mere fact that YOU posted it makes it immensely valuable to the discussion.

                In fact, the inclusion of inaccurate information seems part of a pattern for you "superior" types, and so is the dismissal of any objections to sloppy thinking based upon erroneous "facts."

          Delay is a corrupt politician like most of the rest. He threw his influence around like a "sledgehammer". You don't here much of an outcry from even the Far Right over his supposed plight. They don't want all of this influence peddling dragged out in the courts. And the last thing Delay wants to do is testify under oath. Crying injustice is one thing, telling the truth quite another.

            The ethics of Delay are reprehensible. If you believe the government should not be bought, you can't seriously support this guy whether he has technically broken the law or not.

            This has nothing to do with political favoritism, crooks should be punished, of course the Louisiana case as well if he is guilty.
