He seems to have taken his summer vacation early :). That, or presidential duties keep tying him up.

FTA:
"Who wants to defend the Klan?" I don't know if that was a rhetorical question, but many of us discovered the answer, when reviewing the vast range of responses posted.
I believe the reason the story took off, is because many of us at Propeller know that neo-nazism and white supremacy is not a phenomenon alien to our internet community. In fact, we have a faction of our community who frequently expresses their hatred for blacks, Jews, Muslims, Mexicans, and women.

They are also the first to cry foul when called on their hate filled messages. One of the very reasons i haven't been around much lately.
Having people direct blatant hatred toward you from one post to another is not my idea of a good time, and there's nothing done about it, it never stops.

Two members have contacted me during this past week about bowing out of participation for this reason. These are good solid members who treat people respectfully. One of them made a public announcement on one of my threads that it would be their last post, as a direct result from these hateful attacks.
I had to correct a word,"public"... that's not the first time that I left out the "L" ...

"Which story earned the most votes on Propeller during the last week? That would be "Hate Groups' Newest Target," with 268 votes and 632 comments".
BTW: Isn't it customary and proper to identify the name of the person who submitted the story?

No, it's not. I've identified the submitter a handful of times, but mostly I focus on the comments.

Thanks for your reply, JamesMarcus.
FTA: "You would think that a story about the spike in white supremacist activity in the wake of Barack Obama's de-facto nomination would produce a fairly cut-and-dried comment thread."
Considering your seemingly critical review, I must apologize for my sensitivity. However, you do not appear to be aware of the inflammatory attacks of a nature consistent with the rhetoric that is commonly associated with members from these hate groups that the article depicts.
Simply because many of us on Propeller comment about our criticisms of George Bush or John McCain, we have become the target of personal attacks that make discourse unpleasant. Some members have even withdrawn from commenting as a result. ONe member recently and publically announced their intentions of leaving Propeller.
Perhaps the story has more relevance than you would care to acknowledge.

I usually read the Week in Review story and vote on it but seldom comment since it is sort of in the past. There is one thing that has dissapointed me of late and that is the stories that seem to get the greatest response are the ones that do seem to bring out the worst in alot of us. This presidential race is something that should be very important to the American people but many of the stories presented (by both sides) tend to leave the logical thinking side and go for the personal fear and hatred side. I am only an observer in this race but I don't mind reading stories that cover the ideas that the candidates are pushing or even the flip flops that they may make. There are many instances where the race-religion stories do take us to the lowest level of debate, but I guess we have to realize that politics is a dirty business. I hope that it is not our thinking that has made politics an acceptablly disgracefull topic and career.
