The Taliban are certainly not intimidated by the government forces. If the Americans and NATO forces were to leave, the Taliban would be back in control of the country in just a few days.

Afghanistan is like any other nation.

If the people don't have the urge and drive to win they won't.

I'm sure the Taliban would be back in power almost immediately.

There are those there that prefer the Taliban and their regime to the politics and life style they see as a Democracy.

We have not won the hearts and minds of the common people which is what is needed.

In order to win a war you have to have something people feel is worth dying for.

Sadly with all the garbge going on they are not seeing it from us.

To me it seems as if the people feel they are going from one dominant government to another.

You have to win the hearts and minds or we have the same thing as what happened in Nam.

I got a kick out of one of our politicians up here, he was complaining that our intelligence had to be updated as we were not wise to the "surprise" attack on the prison. The Soviets did not make much of an impression on the rebels in Afganistan and for some reason I don't think we will either. WE supported them when they were fighting the Soviets I wonder who is supplying them now.

Like the war in Iraq, this war in Afghanistan we receive a cleansed version of what is really happening. What a contrived country the USA has become!!!

Oh yes. The government lies to everybody. Bush lied to the world under the Clinton administration and the whole world believed his lie right. So when he became President he retold the lie that everybody already believed and we went to Iraq.

I believe that what our public recieves is pretty cleaned up. But it would be cleane up even if we hadn't been lied to.

don't we still have a couple of the M.O.A.B.'s left. We never actually dropped one on anything other than in tests. well here would be a good place to get rid of them.

After seeing the dust left from the town others might think twice about trying it again.

Thank you!! That is always good news to hear.

Now if they could focus on kicking the Talibans as*es until we destroyed their ability to fight and resupply themselves with arms and forces we'd be able to show the world a true battle plan that works.

The problem in Afghanistan is that NATO has been in charge there and somebody has to stand behind them to make them stand up and fight. Europeans just don't seem to have the will.

We kick their butts every time we can pin them down in a location. But they are like ants. Mindless zombies from all those years of reciting and memorizing the Koran. But Mohammed can't save them now. And good luck on those virgins...the worms however will be waiting...

As for the Afghan people as long as they can grow their poppy they will be content with whatever. Replacing that economy is going to make the war look like a simple affair. That and getting rid of the tribal warlords who have local control.

Replacing WHAT economy? Afghanistan has been the world's poorest nation - - the world's POOREST - - since at LEAST the 1980's. Any presence of the U.S. - in ANY capacity whatsoever - can only be a step upward. All an American soldier has to do is stand in the middle of downtown Kabul and its property value goes up.
