Kosovo's independence bid was backed immediately by the United States. President Bush did not hesitate to honor Kosovo in its moves towards democracy and a free market. If the other EU nations can agree to accept Kosovo as a sovereign nation, then maybe in 5 or 10 years, it can become a full-fledged EU member.
Serbia may have territorial yearnings to have its former province back under its control, but the ethnic Albanians in Kosovo fought for, and attained independence. At some point, the Serbs will simply have to let go.
