News – The pain caused by the global food crisis has led many people to belatedly realize that we have prioritized growing crops to feed cars instead of people. That is only a small part of the real problem
Soon it will become imaterial wheter the energy is generated by crude or biofuel, to the millions of people starving to death, as they will not be able to afford to purchase food. Even in the US, we are allready seeing sharp increase in people looking at starting their own vegetable garden. We are allready seing a decline in commerce sharp enough to drive bussinesses out of bussiness.
We need to realize that we are most likely standing before a door of change, akin to the door that brought on the industrial revolution to our forefathers. Our choises and decisions today will affect generations to come. That kind of "long term" will for all practical purposes exclude the combustion engine, unless we find massive new deposits of crude, and the price comes down substantially.
We need to look to new technology, and also embrace the globe and its population in a new light, away from the gratification of instant profit for the very few. If we don't, "nature" will.

To replace just the oil the world uses in transportaion would require a crop surface area four times greater than the surface of the earth.
Biofuels are predicated on the idea that only a very small percentage of human beings will use automobiles for transport. It is time to replace the private automobile with more sensible methods of transport. The resulting urban areas will be infinitely more pleasant to live in.
