Propeller Week In Review: May 17, 2008

News – Cindy McCain's elusive tax returns were the subject of a major debate this week at Propeller. But the community also sounded off on John Hagee, subliminal advertising, and the disastrous earthquake in China.

"And then there was "Who's That Hiding In My Fox 5 News Logo?" The story produced 149 votes, 138 comments, and a spirited debate about John McCain's mysterious apparition in the network splash."

It was a "fake," people. If anything, McCain was the lead story, but the jerk who edited it for YouTube made it look like Fox 5 was "hiding" the pic in the background. Ã;â;¹;t was pretty obvious by how the music and narration suddenly was cut off. And the logo appearing was the one used at the top of the hour, but when the newscasters appeared, the time read 10:14.

Also, for something to be "subliminal," you cannot have conscious awareness.

So many fools on here are too quick to fall for BS because they LOVE a conspiracy.

Man! Jovial did a great job posting that article.

BB... I agree. Jovial's hosting of that story was well done.

You aren't so great at the spamming thing, are you? Who would want to see Cindy McCain naked? And to spam a story by JamesMarcus, now that HAS to be the height of idiocy!

Not a reply to SC, was a reply to the spammer previously here!

Well then thank God that you're here to shine your wisdom on us mortals and set us all straight!

"Shining his wisdom"..

Oh Ind, in-deed what a genteel way to put it!

I know that in your pure world of exquisite humour you never indulge in any tongue-in-cheek or nudge-nudge, wink-wink.

Such a benevolent POV does you everlasting credit.

Libs-

Do you have evidence proving that it was a feke or should we just trust your word as we trust George W. (GOT WMD) Bush?

Hmmm..Why would anyone be defending a television network over such an innocuous and minor story, unless of course the "fair and balanced" network is truly their own personal unfair and imbalanced forum for misrepresentation? All the remaining neo-cons must hold them so near and dear to their heart that

they find any criticism of "their" dear Fox painful..Hmmm.

let's keep it up. We've gotten them out of the closet!

Let's keep assaulting the Fox Propaganda network and put them on the defensive so they can stop this inexcusable assault on truthful media by blasting them all with liberal machine guns..

Fun week! Thanks!

Well yes..

With a big BUT..

James' Review emphasised that this was also a very sombre week in terms of world news.

The China catastrophe - with potential flooding now also pending - plus the ongoing emergency in Burma/Myanmar - formed, at the very least, a dark backdrop to the week.

Hopefully it also created more realisation that we all live on the same small planet [with a few exceptions who appear to be visiting from elsewhere].

Most heinous was the Burmese authorities refusal to accept proferred international help with distribution of food to the stranded villages. I listened all week to BBC reports, sometimes whispered because they were only able to be there clandestinely.

"And that, folks, is all the news that was.'

A slight exaggeration but you definitely hit the big ones and clarified that it was a pretty somber week in terms of world news.

The catastrophe in China - with the threat of an additional one of flooding - plus the on-going Burma/Myanmar debacle cast a very heavy pall over the week. I've been listening to stories from Burma by BBC reporters who are there clandestinely because the government won't allow them in.

Time for all-round realisation that we all live in one world and that what happens in what may seem like just some distant country does affect us all.

Thanks for your excellent weekly review James. However I must extend one more mundane reminder; the double postings and non-registering submits have been horendous lately. When is the day coming that all these glitches will be the exception and not the rule?

avatar

I've noticed the sourcing is in bold for the stories now. When did that change or have I been hallucinating lately?

Just an add-on to SCs comment.

I like that! Easier to see whether you're accessing the international media or a 1 page-blog custom-made for sucking in the sock-puppets.

...another fine example of why the WIR is essential weekend reading...but why so late this week???Just curious!!!(...the internet delivery-boy is SO NOT getting a tip this month...)

I was under the weather Thursday and out of the office Friday. The normal WIR schedule will resume next week--please, don't blame it on the Internet delivery boy. He relies on your tips to get by.

I'll have George promise him the ONE MILLION DOLLARS we promised China. it will go a lot further with the delivery boy

than the 1,000 rickshaws it can buy China..

he did say "one million dollars"..

All he needed to do was stick his pinky finger next to the side of his mouth and shave his head and he could have been a spitting image of Michael Myers!

Plenty of news made the headlines and this is a great WIR. However, the marriage equality stories coming from California were pretty substantive too. They represent a huge shift for human rights in California and the rest of the nation. I suspect the ballot initiative in November will not be the last say, no matter which side wins.

This is likely going to be posted twice, but I will try again.
