Many times, I feel parents just don't want to deal with parenting and resort to medication for controlling the behavior of their children rather than by setting a good example and taking an active interest in raising their children.

I have two children on these drugs. One has bipolar disorder and ADHD. The other has abdominal migraines as well as regular migraines. The nureologist said My son was the first patient he has has that has both types of migraines. Both children take Depakote. My daughter also takes Geodone and Vyvanse.

Without medication she is fine when she is with other people. But at home we have had to put up wooden walls and solid doors in our house. When she gets angry she breaks anything in sight with walls being a favorite target. She demolished the door to her room one day when my wife was holding the door closed. She has amazing strength when out of control. With correct medication she is an adorable child. The problem is she is eight years old and growing. We keep having to adjust her medications.

A problem is to not over medicate her and turn her into a zombie. It has happened a couple of times.

When you need these medicines the person can't live a normal life without them. Sometimes they are overused.

Patty Duke is a person with Bipolar disorder. All the talk of her being drunk or on drugs was she was not receiving medication for her problem. It was less embarrassing to let people think that then that she had some other problem.Today she is taking medication but still has a carpenter on call to fix her walls.

Try some alternative medicine instead like homeopathy or accupuncture (you don't need needles for children), also check out how she reacts to histamine. Look for the "why".
