OK whatever! Now tell me what he meant by saying the US
government came up with AIDS to kill off that black man.
I think that quite a few white people have died from this too.
I thought that this disease originated on the other side of the Atlantic. In fact Sixty Minutes did a story back in the eighties about a "WHITE" male flight attendant thought to be
the first person to bring AIDS into the US.The story was called"Patient 1"
Rev Wright: "Where governments lie, God does not lie. Where governments change, God does not change. And I'm through now. But let me leave you with one more thing. Governments fail. The government in this text comprised of Caesar, Cornelius, Pontius Pilate - the Roman government failed. The British government used to rule from East to West. The British government had a Union Jack. She colonized Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and Hong Kong. Her navies ruled the seven seas all the way down to the tip of Argentina in the Falklands, but the British government failed. The Russian government failed. The Japanese government failed. The German government failed. And the United States of America government, when it came to treating her citizens of Indian descent fairly, she failed. She put them on reservations. When it came to treating her citizens of Japanese descent fairly, she failed. She put them in internment prison camps...
When it came to treating citizens of African descent fairly, America failed. She put them in chains. The government put them on slave quarters, put them on auction blocks, put them in cotton fields, put them in inferior schools, put them in substandard housing, put them in scientific experiments, put them in the lowest paying jobs, put them outside the equal protection of the law, kept them out of their racist bastions of higher education and locked them into position of hopelessness and helplessness. The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law, and then wants us to sing God bless America? No, no, no. Not God bless America; God damn America! That's in the Bible, for killing innocent people. God damn America for treating her citizen as less than human. God damn America as long as she keeps trying to act like she is God and she is supreme!"
Please understand the quote in the context.
dont try to make excuses for the guy,,hes made his living off of racism,,and he will continue to use race as a dividing stick until the day he dies,,these 50s-60s race mongerers will never give it up,,without being able to scream racism sexism etc, the guy would have to get a job like everyone else...the reverend wright is a shameful example of a black man that is taking advantage of his own kind in order to fill his pockets with their money,,,,,just like the 10,000 black slave owners that owned more than 37,000 black slaves in the south at the time of the immancipation proclamation,,,too bad hes just making them victims of their own race,,sad
What excuses I am making? So posting his full statement is making excuses for him? And what does he need to be excused for?
Question, is he making up everything he is talking about?
Did America commit genocide against American Indians?
Did America institutionalize racism?
Does America bomb foreign countries for its own interests and show little or no regard for "collateral damage" or the innocents who are caught in the crossfire?
Great! You noticed that Black people can internalize racism (in reference to the Black slave owners). Maybe it suggests how insidious the system is. Mind you there were about 4 million slaves in the US at the same time for comparison with your statistic.
Please do not try and deflect the issue. This isn't about race baiting, this is about the very real history of injustice in this country that continues to the present day that many Americans choose to ignore. Until we address America's sins head on, there will always be tension about race.
by claiming that his words were taken out of context,,he said what he meant and he meant what he said,,theres no out of context to it..mr wright continuously draws a line between white and black by trying to use the past as a guarantee of how people are being treated in the present and how theyll be treated in the future,,and thats shameless. no i will say the u.s didnt commit genocide against the natives,,genocide is the indiscriminate killing of a people in order wipe them out,,yes our government put indians on reservations and yes they didnt treat them the way they should have,,but genocide,,i dont think so...institutionlized racism,,,so you think that was a govt policy,,or was it a combination of the times they lived in and the world they grew up in,,,ive yet to see a govt document that outlines how they are going institute racism..so the 37,000 black owned slaves are unimportant because they were outnumbered by white owners??? thats not deflecting is it????
does america bomb foreign countries for their own interests???what the hell does that mean...what are you saying,,we decide to just go blow the hell out of a nation because we have no regard for human life???? i think you got yourself confused with people like saddam hussein,,chechyan rebels, half of the leaders of african nations,,,sorry but the u.s. has done more for the people of the world,,and we usually get just what you are doing,,,a bi$ch slap...i guess you see the u.s. as a problem to the world, good thing you live where you dont need the u.s. to help protect you,,it makes it easier to be condemning of us.
"does america bomb foreign countries for their own interests???what the hell does that mean...what are you saying,,we decide to just go blow the hell out of a nation because we have no regard for human life???? "
Well. Considering that America's killed at least 600,000 (the count's supposed to have surpassed a million) according to Johns Hopkins' last count in a war started (apparently) for their own interests -- yes.
"Did America institutionalize racism"
China, Russia, Saudi Arabia and other countries don't have racism?
"Until we address America's sins head on"
How exactly do you propose to do this? It's all in the history books isn't it?
"Did America commit genocide against American Indians"
Didn't every country in America's do this? Why is it only America that did this?
"there will always be tension about race"
As long as there are people like the good reverend there will be tension about race.
"Did America institutionalize racism"
China, Russia, Saudi Arabia and other countries don't have racism? "
So it's okay as long as someone else is doing it? Bad policy. Especially if you're trying to stop nuclear proliferation.
""Did America commit genocide against American Indians"
Didn't every country in America's do this? Why is it only America that did this? "
America's just done it the best and continues to do it today. Most North American and South American nations, however, as you point out have committed similar genocide. Which still doesn't make it right.
Never said it did make it right did I?
"So it's okay as long as someone else is doing it?"
But isn't this the argument you use for your brothers of peace?
As far as what we do today, been to a Casino lately?
"America's just done it the best"
Have you ever seen what the conquistadors did to the Mexican Indians? Maybe if you but down your hate America handbook you might actually learn the truth about the americas.
You are spouting state propaganda again! Of the type that the US has always used to justify theft of one-third of Mexico or the invasion of Cuba on five occasions. You should learn some real history instead of the sop taught in US schools.
Actually the Spanish crown beat the US by about 350 years. Slavery was banished by Spain in 1508 and the ban was reinforced in 1542. The Jesuits, especially Bartolme de las Casas, were instrumental in this ban. The legal and religious basis for the ban was medieval catholic teachings that indigenous people were entitled to rule their own countries, even if they were not christians. The US and Britain lost this tradition when the Brits abandoned catholicism for political reasons.
Consequence: we massacred the indians, whereas, apart from disease, indigenous populations remained strong throughout latin america. Can you imagine if 60% of the US population were indigenous, as is the case in Peru?
Thanks for the quote in context. I've been to lazy to look for it and after the initial bit of shock from hearing a man of God say such a thing I considered it a non-issue and refused to pass judgment (though I did at first, I'll admit). Thus the laziness on looking for it... for me, it was a non-issue.
A direct quote from Obama:
"Asked to respond to Mr. Wright's contention that he has been the victim of a smear campaign, Mr. Obama said: "No. I think that people were legitimately offended by some of the comments that he had made in the past. The fact that he is my former pastor I think makes it a legitimate political issue. So I understand that."
http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/04/28/r...
and?
its obviously a politial issue because obama is running fo president.
but then so are hagee's comments. because McCain is also running for president.
wright is not running for president. neither is hagee.
so attributing one man's beliefs to another man, in either case, is just plain stupid.
and until someone can start finding racist quotes that came straight from Obama's or McCain's mouth...oh wait.
McCain called asians "gooks".
oh well. there you have it.
"McCain called asians "gooks"."
LOL
You say it as if he said "all asians are gooks"
Here's the real story if you care:
"Arizona Sen. John McCain refused to apologize yesterday for his use of a racial slur to condemn the North Vietnamese prison guards who tortured and held him captive during the war.
"I hate the gooks," McCain said yesterday in response to a question from reporters aboard his campaign bus. "I will hate them as long as I live."
You see, he was referring to his North Vietnamese captors, not Asians as a whole.
It's a term most service men used during the war in nam.
Either way, McCain should just say he heard his Asian grandmother use the word and all would be good right?
McCain can say whatever he wants to say - and spin it however he likes after the fact. But, unlike the patsy press who gave him all that wiggle room, I doubt very much you can limit his outburst to a small sliver of the Asian population considering that, like at Gitmo, Veitnamese torturers represented more than just themselves and were mandated by higher ups to perform their atrocities. Also, I doubt you can expect McCain to stand up and condemn the entire American military contingent for teaching him the "gook" word and how to use it. Too many old vets out there to chance losing them at the polls. Newbie fouls out and McCain is still a zero on my scoresheet.
oops. his foot was out of bounds. no bucket.
cause you obviously don't care that he offended an entire race of people.
instead, you're just going to try and shove your skewed contextualization down the rest of our collective throats.
but it simply doesn't work that way. what he said was offensive to a lot of people. no matter what you say. no matter how you try and spin it.
here's an asian-american perspective for you to ponder:
The reverend is a charlatan, egomaniac, who uses race to promote his career. He relishes being in the limelight despite the fact that he is risking Obama's chances. He deflects accusations directed at him as being against African Americans. I hope all of you are smart enough to fall for his schtick. He said what he said, and when mainstream America questions him, its racist ? You have to be able to take it if you are going to be dishing it out.
Lets face it; Obama is a black man running for president under Black ideals. He doesn't want people to look at his color but he keeps alluding to it. He wants us to be united but keeps dividing us. He wants to get the message out that he is black and if you don't vote for him or come out against him you are a racist. So then call me a racist, Obama, because not only will I NOT vote for you, I will not listen to your nebulous speeches, and I am doing my best to try to get others to see you the way I do: as a muslim sleeper for not denouncing your muslim background, supporting an antiamerican 'pastor' and 'church' and because of your dealings with Farrakhan
Hickory, bubba, are Black ideals bad or good? Tell me about that generalization. Running "under" them are they good when in the back of the bus? Change is needed to make a good idea or ideals just that; that's clear cut, no nebulous there. If you do right by people then history won't have to be reinvented, and the notion that White is right, but not (Rev) Wright will be a non-issue. See you are bitter, competition is catching up. How do you like my generalization?

It is not in Rev Wright's best interest for Obama to be elected President. For decades he has been spewing hatred for whites, and how they hate blacks too much to give them an equal chance. If Obama was to get the nomination, or be elected President his whole spiel becomes useless. Can't sell his tapes, or anything. Obama knew Wright was a thorn in his side, that is why he tried to hide him for months. Now his pretend Uncle is sabotaging his chances at the Oval Office, and he is still standing by him.
Lets, see, Ani, when did the article become about Obama? It is about people like you. Yes, people who see difference as deficient, just like you iterated about Obama's "whole spiel becomes useless". You see Wrights comments as deficient to Obama who becomes deficient to run as President, right? So, you see, it is people like you he is talking about who are attacking the black churches today. Evidently, to make such attacks on the church and its leaders, that must make you pretty racist. Therefore, you must also be a white supremist. Are you, ani, a white supremist?
Wow that sound just like what I just heard on the Hypo-crits, drug users radio show.
You know it's just as inane as written as it is spoken.
