Propeller Sustainability Series: "FOOD, Part 3"

News – Let's face it, for most of us trying to change our eating habits is really tough. If you're like me, you cave to the crave, which in my case means beer and chicken skin.

I think one of the greatest compliments that a vegetarian or vegan chef can get, is when a non-vegetarian or non-vegan person sits down to eat their food, and can't get enough.

I'm lucky enough to live with a wife who is a vegan/vegetarian chef and we're surrounded by friends and family who are vegetarians, so when we eat at each other's homes, it's generally a feast and good for you.

Alexia, I was keeping your beer thing a secret but now that you let the proverbial cat out of the bag....

Vegetarianism and veganism is great, but as soon as you have to take supplements and vitamins because your food is lacking, it's no better, environmentally or physically, than one comprised of "junk food".

I think the best thing most people could do for their eating is to dump processed wheat from their diet, be it bread, pasta, or anything made from flour. Of course potatoes, too, but that's a not as bad.

I eat vegetarian at least five days a week. I realize there are some things a human body can't get from veganism.

I agree. I think keeping our diet high in veggies and such is the key, but not to cut out obvious proteins (animal products) unless you're really conscious of where you're getting them. I've seen a lot of unhealthy vegetarians and vegans.
