The tornado which will probably be classified as an f2-f3 tore through downtown Atlanta just minutes after the same cell passed over my house. The damage that was done to the one of Atlanta's busiest areas is unvelieveable.

In the Georgia Dome where the NCAA Tournament was taking place roof tiles fell to the floor and cat walks started to break loose causing the dome to be evacuated.

The CNN center had what looked like a stream running through the building and flowing down the escalators.

In Cabbage Town, historic mill buildings that have been turned into loft housing were severely damaged. The top two levels of one building collapsed. Police using dogs searched the rubble looking for anybody trapped inside.

One two story brick building collapsed completely leaving nothing but a pile of bricks burying cars parked near it.

My neighborhood was very lucky as we received only minor damage. The two supercells appeared almost our of nowhere. They were part of a front that will not be passing through until later on today, bringing with it a higher probability for severe storms than we saw yesterday.

Glad you are okay tanglang! Tornadoes are bad, I lived through one back in 1957!

From 8 to 10 PM last night, tornadoes were touching down in southern Arkansas then east of Shreveport, Louisiana. The TV station kept the weather news on for the entire two hours. Still don't know how much damaged was done! I was lucky that the storms didn't get moving, till they passed over my area!

      Thanks tanglang!

I've been through several and they are terrifying. Glad your OK tang and am also glad that Atlanta didn't sustain more damge.

But it is another wake-up call that we have been very lucky that major metropolitan areas aren't hit more frequently.nature doesn't have the same boundaries as man.

tang, glad you and your neighborhood stayed safe. It's very unnerving even if you don't have any storm damage yourself to see what has happened to your neighbors and friends homes and businesses and your town or city after a violent storm like passed through Atlanta. We went through a tornado where I live just a few weeks ago it was so sad to see what happened to many of my neighbors. Wishing all of Atlanta the best, here's wishing blessing for you all.

I saw the news this a.m. and it looked like Atlanta got ripped fairly hard.

I'm sure if this had hit earlier in the day the loss of life and property would of been devastating to the community.

I just spent the day walking around cabbagetown where I lived for over 11 years. My friends' and former neighbors' houses have been hit, there's lots of media walking and driving around, the police cordoned off part of the area, I live a half a mile away and there was no damage around my street. A house that a bunch of my friends have been living in lost its roof and they all are staying with friends, another friend's house had a tree land right in the living room, and another friend who rents out a house there had a tree in her yard fall over and crash into two neighboring houses. A whole lot of houses have tarps over them, upturned trees everywhere. The storm hit mostly in areas I've lived, worked, and hung out in and nowhere else.

tangland-when I saw this on the news last night I wondered how close it would be to you since you had mentioned you lived in Atlanta. Glad you made out fine. Watching the television today I noticed that there was a real band of storms all lined up to hit the area so now for the dumb question, last fall you were in a real drought situation and I was wondering if things have change or are things still dry.

We still have drought issues, but thisd year we are getting a little more rain than we have been recently. You know, I'm not too worried about the drought as it has happene before. Roughly every 25 years. Thanks though.

There were so many media people sightseeing in Cabbagetown that my friend John Dirga had to put up a sign that said "Thank You For Gawking". Some really stupid police officers decided to harass me for trying to take a picture tonight. They need IQ tests for police because the smart ones don't do that kind of thing, the dumb*sses ruin it for the rest. I was just walking home from a bar two blocks from where I used to live in the middle of my suddenly newsworthy neighborhood. They toldme to "get on home". This is my home, they need to look for people looting, not people taking pictures. What are they scared I would take a picture of? Law enforcement in this country has completely lost it's sense of perspective, ever since 9-11. They need to relax (and redirect their attention to the real crime)

My dear friend, Tang, I am greatly relieved you made it through the storm. Many here don't know it, but my heritage goes back to when the settlers came to Georgia. That's why I am part Cherokee. My great, great, great grandfather was a trapper from Scotland. He did what many Scots did when settling in new territory, he married a Cherokee Squaw to learn everything he could about what to hunt, where to hunt, and when to hunt.

When Jefferson ordered the Cherokee out of their rightful land, he went to Florida where I was later born. We hailed from Macon, GA. There's even a street named after my great, great grandfather for helping many blacks escape north during the Civil War. You might recall, "follow the drinking gourd?"

Don't worry, I will not bring climate warming up; seems our beloved prez said that global warming was not real. He claims that it is a Democratic ploy to frighten Americans.

                                Peace, cool friend
