My God. I hope he does not have to resort to calling in the Kennedys as a last resort. Those radio spots will be devastating.

"The peasant-based FARC has been fighting Colombia's government for more than four decades, seeking a more equitable distribution of wealth. It funds itself largely through the cocaine trade and kidnaps for ransom and political ends." Other than this I'm sure they are really nice folks. I can see why Chavez loves them so much.
All kidding aside, he needs to tread lightly. The Western Hemisphere is getting pretty damn tired of his nonsense. Many Venezuelans I'm sure are embarrassed by him too.

I agree, FARC is nothing more than a terrorist organization. The fact that he has no interest in stopping them is troublesome enough. But for him to send troops to the border to keep Columbia from defending itself is outrageous.

Not only that but Chavez is reacting to an attack that happened in Ecuador - not in Venezuela. The man is unbalanced and dangerous. Of course if he is funding FARC with petro dollars the OAS should do something about him right now. I hope the Venezuelan people get him out of office first chance they get.

What Colombia did was deploy its own military forces on foreign soil (Ecuador) which is not allowed
And Chavez has said that he will not allow foreign troops on his soil and has deployed some elements of his army close to the border to prevent that from happening which is the legal right of any country

Chavez is also allowing FARC to operate from Venezuala. Is it his legal right to allow kidnapping drug smugglers to use his country as a base?

He can always get good advice from GWB concerning military operations. Maybe we can expand our empire and grab his oil too. :o/

Gotta love seeing you say that. You know, if we were trying to expand our empire, we would have just taken over Venezuala or Canada instead of Iraq. We get far more oil from them, and they would have put up much less of a fight. Not to mention the gas we would save because they are much closer.

"if we were trying to expand our empire, we would have just taken over Venezuala"
We tried that by supporting the coup attempt by Pedro Carmona. Who along with other's involved, met with MANY white house officials in the weeks leading up the coup. We gave him a green light to take over the country. Heck, within hours of the coup, we had acknowledged him as the legitimate ruler of the nation... And when it failed Carmona even went into exile in the US. He now lives as a free man in Miami under our protection.

Bush co are snakes, snakes are pretty smart, they know not to bit off more than they can swallow. That's why Canada is safe, as for Venezuela it would be like opening up another Iraq in south America, the US doesn't have the money or man power for that, you see they have become the true paper tiger many joked about. How many people do you think would support a draft for the present governments foreign policies? Next problem is the money is not there to replace lost equipment let alone the new equipment that would be required for a new front. The truth is while the US tries to remain hard line they are open for compromises which shows in the fact that both Chavez and Ahmadinejad rattles chains and the US does nothing.

FARC operates from Venezuala also. FARC are not just drug smugglers but engage in kidnapping. They are receiving the active support of Ecuador and Venezuala, which adds another dimension to this situation. So Columbia should never hold either of those countries responsible for arming and supporting an insurrection that has lingered on for many years? At one point, a large area commonly referred to as "FARCland" was under the control of this group. I think that Columbia has every right to finally deal with this situation effectively.

Sorry but You don't get to play the Kidnapping card since you support the US government who kidnaps also, that would be a double standard and one not permitted in logical debate.

We capture terrorist suspects. FARC kidnaps tourists and people off the street. Big difference!
