Propeller Week In Review: February 15, 2008

News – Not surprisingly, Barack Obama's trajectory was at center stage this week. But the Propeller community also sounded off about Darwinian evolution, the drooping economy, and Hillary Clinton's tax returns (now you see them, now you don't).

Very good synopsis. But very surprising with these hot issues especially feudin between science and religion was generally very civil.

avatar
Reply

There were some uncivil moments, some theological spitballs, but I chose not to focus on those. In general the tone was surprisingly tolerant, given the kind of hot-button issues under discussion.

There's always uncivil moments but it didn't create a firestorm. Yeah

It's apparent that Hillary is a hater and she'll try trickery to get in office. The discussion about taxes is a

subject not yet resolved and probably will never. We need to get alot of those old heads out of office and reflect on humanistic/humility, helping each other and not crushing each other. America has alot of trash to sift through, so let's get to sifting. We need to quit wasting time on steriods cases, before the senate, etc, and deal with more imminent issues such the fema trailer dishonesty and place those people in some of these government properties that their trying to sale, for free. You've destroyed their lives, poisoned their children for life and you want to waste my hard earned money talking and arguing about someone lying about using steriods;Let's talk about your lie!!!!!!!

Thanks for another fine review of this week's best chuckles, James. But there is a growing problem. I use Firefox, and a growing number of stories including a host of the hottest ones for the past week crash the browser every single time I open them. I sure hope something can be done about this. I'd like to comment on some of them.

I'm running Firefox as well, sometimes I have slow load times and every once in a while I'll lose my post (especially if it's a really long one) but for the most part no problem.

avatar
Reply

Thanks for that input, tchef. I'll check other possibilities like McAfee or my pop-up blocker. Been reporting the crashes to Mozilla as well. Hopefully they will figure out what's up and take corrective action.

I'm run Mac at home and windows at work both with firefox. On my windows computer I'm using AVG free virus software. It's been working really well and doesn't seem to give me any problems with my browsers.

Personally, I think it's the Propeller site -- whether I'm using Explorer or even Netscape!!!, it is often unbearably slow or just won't function at all.

It's the main reason I spend so little time here anymore. It's just too aggravating to navigate.

Amazed, try this. It worked for me. It loads a lot faster.

Just click on Navigator 9.

thanks, alpha -- it seems to be better, but still not great.

Maybe it's Vista.

I have a sneaky suspicion that it is an issue with Propeller's servers. All other websites work fine. It is just Propeller's site.

It is either short on servers, short on quality server software (may be they are using Windows, instead of Linux) or it could be the case of Propeller being a second-class citizen in the AOL's arrogant hierarchy. This arrogance has been a prime cause of AOL's downfall. Everything that AOL has touched has turned into a trash pile. Steve Case's under-qualified and over-hyped style of management apparently lives on for yet another disaster!

Why did it have to be Netscape, the proud pioneer who did so much for the world? They brought the joy of Internet to literally billions and made World wide Web the engine for delivery of knowledge and commerce. Now they are stuck with a third-rate owner who doesn't know anything about anything! It is like a shotgun marriage with a loser.

I feel for Netscape!

I agree. And they really should try to fix it especially if it's driving members away.

Good snapshot, James!

BTW, I am still waiting to hear from you about the problem with the "plus" sign ( ) that gets dropped out when a comment gets posted on the thread!

Like the one inside the parenthesis just did!

Peace and Blessings!

I am astonished by the large number of sock puppets who voted for this submission.

avatar
Reply

Lol!

Silly sock puppets, don't you know better than to vote for a story submitted by the man who can and will hunt you down and eradicate you?

Obviously not the sharpest tools in the shed, otherwise they'd figure out how to get their stories on the homepage, ie. submit good stories instead of spam.

avatar
Reply

I have been on here for a year or so and have never been hunted down or eradicated. It must be something you are doing.

And if you hate it here, don't come.

avatar
Reply

What are you talking about? Are you a sock puppet? That's who I was addressing.

Where did you get the impression that I "hate it here"? My point was that if the people who employ the tactics of sock puppetry submitted good content, they would not need their puppet armies to get on the home page. They instead submit junk and try to get it on the home page. That's a pretty good indication that their elevators may not reach the top floor.

I don't know why you are coming off all hostile at me, unless you are a sock puppet or a purveyor of crap. Maybe you misunderstood. Or maybe you are one of Big Mama T's minions.

avatar
Reply

I think someone called themselves out.

Who's Big Mama T?

avatar
Reply

Oh, you KNOW who Big Mama T is...

avatar
Reply

If you think that was hostile, I am sorry. I wasn't meaning to be. I was just letting you know that I have never had a problem.

I often see people complain about the "liberal" slant of this website or that the people running it don't run stories from certain political viewpoints. My feeling is that no one is forcing you to come here and if you don't like it, then don't.

No offense meant.

I am not a sock puppet and don't know what that means. Good content is in the eye of the beholder.

I find any stories of support for our current corrupt regime to be terrible and sink them appropriately. Does that make me a sock puppet?

Since so many folks congregate around this article, I can grab someone's attention here, I hope. Can someone, anyone, please do something about the pornographic spam on the Gay and Lesbian Forum. I am REALLY tired of posting a perfectly legitimate story in a mound full of crap. I have been asking, pleading, and now demanding that it stop. Whatever filters are necessary, please install them. I hate to prevent people from posting legitimate stories, but come on, enough with the porn spam!

Thanks for letting me rant, you can go back to discussing this story. WIR, is it?

I'm slipping, I thought I read this same week in review last week. It's like groundhog day. Maybe it's because we're focusing on the same things, I know I'm sick of the daily straw polls taken. And about servers, I click on "show entire thread" and nothing happens so I can't continue without knowing what the subject was. I hate to complain, especially when I tried to complain over a year ago and I got a smart a$$ remark about not knowing what I'm doing and they weren't about to help me.

As always, I enjoyed the review, it's just that I thought these things happened last week or maybe the week before.
