"One of the muggers, Florenza Byas, 28, of Brooklyn, was dead on arrival at Harlem Hospital with a knife wound to his chest after the 11:55 p.m. struggle, police said."
The family of the above perp on TV news, had stated to reporters that he couldn't possibly had participated in the robbery. Stating that he was on his way to being a CPA, and they want justice done...(seems to me it already has been served)
IMHO.

Hey you can't go around killing people from Brooklyn like that BB. j/k A punk is a punk no matter where he is from, he got what he deserved. Another area that needs attention is the gangs...they are the sewer rats of society.

Thanks BB. Good post. Seems the worker was just protecting himself, and well too.

Poetic justice - most CPAs kill you with a pen - this one tried to do it with a knife & got it back in return.

This is the main reason I have a concealed weapon permit and carry a gun when I was in Orlando.
Just like the Tiger attack that killed the kid and maimed the others who had sling shots on them, "My kid wouldn't do anything wrong, we want justice from the zoo"
Reply-

ZiegfeldGirl9 months ago
The kid who got attacked was shooting the tiger with a slingshot? I hadn't heard that, I didn't really follow the story. I kept changing the channel so my kids wouldn't hear it and freak out the next time we went to the zoo!

They found 2 sling shots on the kids that where attacked but still alive. They are not co-operating with the authorities so you can imagine what they were up to.
If you tease an animal eventually the adrenalin will surge enough to where they have super powerful strength and what you think keeps them secure is nothing for them to get out off.
The walls of the concrete barrier was not smooth, since it was some what rough it was just enough for the Tiger to get a grip and run up it and out.
In this case I don't feel sorry for those people, they got what they deserved.

It is so sad when people are unable to fight back against there attacker. I am glad he is alive.

I certainly don't have any problem with anyone defending themselves against criminal attacks by any means available to them.

I actually think that with incidents like this, we as a society are going to revert back to the 19th century and start packing weapons to repulse recidivist's whether our means of protection are obtained legally or not. These criminals aren't giving us much of a choice.

That statement seems so wrong, so I sat here for the last 10min trying to figure out all the other solutions available to us ... then just gave up and gave you a plus
For my part, I moved to the boonies to raise my kids, my youngest is working his way through college as a karate instructor now. Unfortunately this option is not available to most people.

Yeah, but not everybody is a black belt in ju jitsu. This man is very fortunate and very brave. I think I'm going to go back to packing again. Maybe move back to AZ. Nobody messes with people there because we are all armed and dangerous, hahahahaha.
Like I've said before I carry a razor sharp knife at all times. They are deadly.
Good story thanks.

grandpa - I used to leave my home at about 4 AM when I was in the restaurant business - I would carry my Swiss Army knife with the sharp saw blade open, I would hold the knife in place with my watchband so that blade was facing out from the palm of my hand, but couldn't be seen.
Luckily I never had to swipe anyone across the face.
But it did work for O.J.

Yeah, I'm an Arizona boy born, bred & hope to die with my bones bleached in the sun...
All the years I lived in Tucson, I'd go walking after midnight (start humming your favorite Patsy Cline song now). I'd sometimes carry nothing but usually I either packed my 9mm Ruger, any one of my nice & rusty WWI & WWII bayonets (30cm Japanese Arisaka was the shortest) or, most preferably, my numchucks. Not many street lights in the Naked Pueblo & I lived in old, downtown neighborhoods.
NEVER once had a problem with a person and pretty soon stopped packing the 9mm. What I had problems with were dogs. Figured discharging at a dog would most likely miss (think about it...small target, moving, night). The 'chucks & blades I did have to use. The blades one eve when I was walking with my daughter...3 dogs...lots of kicking and hacking before apologetic owners came out.
'chucks were safest. Blunt damage, very discouraging, fatal only by choice.
No probs EVER w/ people though

Glad those 4 thugs picked a person who wasn't another victim, now maybe those 3 still alive will think twice about trying to victimize someone else in the future. Commit a crime like that, suffering the consequences might not just be some jail time, might end your life...too bad more people aren't able to defend themselves like Maurice did against criminals like that.

Muggers and such don't know who they're jumping anymore.
Last night I was signing off of Skype when I said ..."Those are gunshots. Did you hear that? Gunshots!"
Just across the street I watched a security officer run to the corner of a building, gun drawn and extended in a ready position, trying to find his target. I called 911 and relayed that there was automatic weapons fire. Over 30 shots in all, 4 six round bursts and at least four bursts from a 'hand cannon'.
Needless to say, a small army of police had the area secured for several hours. It turns out that an undercover cop was being robbed at gunpoint, when he produced a piece of his own. A running gun battle ensued, with the 'perp' being killed.
I lost some sleep, and that foolish bastage is dead.

WOW so that is what is was. An undercover cop being robbed?? was it a drug deal then, or just a random "mugging"? That was some fireworks display!!

Yes I wonder Jaydee, me of course-lol. So yes, I heard the shots and it scared the *** out of me. As I was telling Sump. the sound of gunshots on PEI is just not an issue unless you are in the country during duck season. So when he says there were gunshots , he is not kidding, it did sound like a war zone. Cops with shotguns everywhere, yikes... I am going for another visit soon, so you can imagine how my little Canadian naive brain was doing summersaults!

That method of handling crime has been shown to substantially reduce recidivism.

Of course, it is good that he was able to defend himself sucessfully! BUT: there is the possibility that one or more of those involved was attempting to HELP him, or thought that HE was the "Bad Guy"! Hopefully this is not the case, but when 4 people were involved, many possibilities exist.

That would be truly sad indeed, but I would hope the people who initiated the attack would be held responsible not the guy defending himself.
I really hope this is not true. I can't imagine how I would feel knowing I killed someone that was trying to help me, or how I would feel knowing my son died trying to help the man who killed him.. geeze

Good for the subway employee. The thug got what you deserved. Probably would not have gotten much in the court system.

I don't know what is a bigger crime - the actual commission of it or the "spin" put on it afterward in an effort that sometimes seems to canonize the perpetrator

Some days, the bear eats you, some days, you eat the bear. Good on the Transit worker - there are far too many gangs of roving Latino CPAs in America - He is welcome in Los Angeles, ant time!

This is a Shakespearian tragedy where everyone loses. I can't decide which is more disturbing, the story or the comments. I also wonder if would have tried to help.

Last time a guy named Bernard Getz did it to muggers, he was hunted, fined, jailed. The whole NAACP was against him and he had to file for Chapter 7 to avoid paying civil damages to the muggers. His life was destroyed for ever.
NYC belongs to muggers, thugs and rapists with support from Al Sharpton and his cronies.
