Battle stations! They need to lock down the school campus immediately and drug test every single student. Additionally, each presidential candidate must tell us how their plan to deal with the alcohol-filled candy crisis is more draconian than their opponent's. Finally, the child's parents should be put on a public list so local neighbors will know who to scorn and whisper about as they pass by.
Of course, that might be an overreaction on my part. :)
Thanks for the story MonteG. Good find as usual.

Fact is, where do you draw the line? These candies are illegal to buy in a lot of places if you're under 21. How about when the 12 year old shows up with about two dozen of these things and the sixth grade class gets plowed? Liquor is liquor, wrapping it in chocolate doesn't make it OK for kids.
They're sure good though.

Two well expressed divergent points of view posted above. Consider the fact that school districts have very little leeway in these matters. A vocal group of parents demands "zero tolerance" of any usage of tobacco or alcohol. Added to this is the flurry of lawsuits that usually follows claiming that "my child has been traumatized, his/her self-esteem has been destroyed, and he/she is having nightmares and is afraid to go to school because of alcohol and drugs being passed out at school. We are outraged at this. What is being done about it?"
Yes, it IS ridiculous, but then, so is trying to "please" a general public with incredibly diverse cultural, religious, and personal beliefs.

"Any type of alcohol can be cause of suspension. I certainly wouldn't call it candy.
I wonder if that list of verboten items includes rubbing alcohol, alcohol swabs, cough syrup, vanilla, and all the other things that have alcohol as a base?
