The wife should go to jail as well as the dead man. There was complicity between the two of them to defraud the insurance company that paid out the death benefits. It wouldn't surprise me if the children never spoke to either of them again.
If the father had any kind of close relationship with the children, it had to be devastating for them to think that their dad was dead. That was a cruel hoax to play on the children. Some people will do anything for money apparently.
