And I thought the surge was going so well.
These folks are killing each other, with Al Qaida thrown in to really make matters worse. Al Qaida wasn't even in Iraq before the US invasion. Saddam Hussein didn't want Al Qaida in his country--he wanted total control of his population.
Now Al Qaida is there and making things worse among the sectarian violence that was sparked once Saddam was out of the picture.
Americans need to get the heck out of there and let the Iraqis fight it out amongst themselves and against Al Qaida.
American involvement has only made a bad situation much worse. I don't see the US doing anything else there that's gonna help the Iraqis solve their in-fighting and lack of government help and support of it's own people.

The General LIED! It's as simple as that, if you believed anything he said you are an out and out jackass. You are also the reason our country is going to hell in a hand basket. You are stupid to repeat anything the General said as fact.
Here is why I call you those names, you can read if you are here, you can see if you are here, and you have these senses for a reason, not to be an idiot. Use them make logical deductions, you use your reasoning well because you haven't jumped off a building yet. now that we have established that, Why would you sit there and let someone just lie to you?
I said this a year ago and I am saying it again. Bush is stalling to pass off this war; this idiot hasn't made a decision since he decided to help his mother make him, and like everything else in his life he will leave it for someone else to fix, this is what his daddy did for him all of his life , why should anything change.

I believe generals' opinions were followed for Vietnam as well.
Commenting from the UK our military seem to be saying exactly the opposite as to what's happening in Iraq. Who to believe? Good test is who do you think the eventual winner will be? The guys that are winning probably don't need to 'talk up' their game.
What to consider for the future is when the outside forces are away and all the maimed and amputees are left behind and left begging on the streets, and the professional classes do not return because it is a tribal carve up and people who were already poor are even poorer, who will the Iraq people think caused it all? So how is the general addressing that?

No. It's more like saying that the invasion of Normandy was a failure because Eisenhower (or any other important Allied general) was killed by a German sniper as soon as he set foot on French soil - if you wish to draw analogies.
This guy was important - if you don't understand that, then you don't know Iraqis very well. They place immense importance on traditional, family-based hierarchies. If this guy's successor quits co-operation, you can write off that province.

FTA:
Abu Reesha was one of several Sunni leaders who met with President Bush during his surprise visit to Anbar on September 3. In a photograph taken during the six-hour visit, a smiling Bush is seen shaking hands with the sheik.
Bush has repeatedly cited successful efforts to bring Anbar tribesmen over to the coalition's side in the fight against al Qaeda in Iraq as evidence of overall success by the U.S. military in Iraq. Since the Sunni sheiks began cooperating with the U.S. military, violent attacks have significantly decreased in Anbar, once a hot-spot for al Qaeda attacks.

That's correct Tim. My story a couple of days ago had a reporter go to Amman and Baghdad to look for this Abu fella. He interviewed him and the interview can be seen here:

I take it he didn't have to many friends in Iraq.

The Shiek is a victim of the war on terror. Sunni shieks had taken on Al Qaida to get rid of the terrorists in Iraq. Terrorism in Iraq is a direct effect of the war, and of the power vacumn created by the weak central government.
Let's face it. Bush has no clue what's going on or what to do about it. He'll keep bumbling about until his term of office ends, and the GOP presidential candidates promise more of the same.

Well -- there goes the guy that was helping to organize Anbar AGAINST al Quida. If someone else with the balls to have a target painted on his back doesn't step up and assume that authority soon, this could be very bad news indeed.

A real negative when those who we aid are shown to be vulnerable. In reality that is just the state of Iraq. How do we determine if it was internal, Shia militias, or Al Qaeda in Iraq? We always lean toward Al-Qaeda for idological reasons but who really knows the answer? The Shia would have their own reasons for his demise.

It seems to me that of all the things going on in Iraq, the protection of this shiek should have been high on the list. How can the U.S. expect to make any progress when we cannot even protect those who are instrumental in helping us. I guess it's understandable that influential Iraqis are hesitant about fighting against Al-Qaeda when it's an almost certain death sentence.

Bush will never obtain a true perspective of what he has concluded in Iraq. His mind is set on winning which is unattainable and unrealistic. The wrong he has committed is obvious yet he persist in attempting to correct a wrong. Sorry, George Bush you failed, your legacy is set in concrete, you are a failed leader who has allowed America to become a third world nation in our future.
Pull out, the civil war in Iraq will ensue, its inevitable.
Bush will not accept it since he needs redemption. He will never get it and his continuation of his lunacy along with his flunkies like Betray Us and Crock will take America down the latrine. It's a long way for sewage to funnel its way to the cesspool and that is the direction our country is going under the Bush doctrine of insanity.

Yep, if we quit our Revolution when a patriotic officer got killed, then America would still be part of the United Kingdom.
God bless and keep this patriot.

"It's unclear how his death would affect U.S. efforts to organize Sunnis against the terrorist network."
It may be unclear to the Associated Press writer, David Rising, but it hardly a mystery to anyone who knows these people. The clans of the desert live by very simple rules, such as "An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth." Whoever kills my kinsman will be killed by me--it is my sacred duty.
I think that al-Qaeda may soon regret targeting the Sheikh.

Maybe not. A certain degree of deniable infighting has always been a part of tribal and clan-based hierarchies. Maybe AQ went after that Sheikh because someone asked them to, because I don't believe that they'd be so stupid - their recruits largely come from tribal backgrounds too.

I will be very happy to answer you and all of the other people.
Here is a verse from the Koran that will answer your question:
[4:93] Anyone who kills a believer on purpose, his retribution is Hell, wherein he abides forever, GOD is angry with him, and condemns him, and has prepared for him a terrible retribution.
[4:94] O you who believe, if you strike in the cause of GOD, you shall be absolutely sure. Do not say to one who offers you peace, "You are not a believer," seeking the spoils of this world. For GOD possesses infinite spoils. Remember that you used to be like them, and GOD blessed you. Therefore, you shall be absolutely sure (before you strike). GOD is fully Cognizant of everything you do.
So it's not just during Ramadan but it is forbidden at all time.

For any Muslim who might be reading this, what I think we'd all like to know is, is that, even if your complaint against the West and Israel is completely justified, WHAT scriptures from the Quran or Hadith do YOU follow that keep YOU from going the way of the 45 Islamic British doctors who tried to set off bombs in Britain recently? What keep you from siding with Al-Qaeda? Your answers might save your fellow brethren from strapping on a bomb and killing a baby girl at a pizza parlor. You MIGHT actually keep Islam from looking Satanic for change.

Sure I will show you where Islam forbids killing people:
First let us start with killing non-muslims:
God said:
[5:32]..any one who murders any person who had not committed murder or horrendous crimes, it shall be as if he murdered all the people. And anyone who spares a life, it shall be as if he spared the lives of all the people.
Our prophet said:
Whoever killed a person having a treaty with the Muslims, shall not smell the smell of Paradise though its smell is perceived from a distance of forty years.
Which means that it is very serious.
God ordered the Muslims to treat the non-muslims in the best manners:
60:8 Allah forbids you not, with regard to those who fight you not for (your) Faith nor drive you out of your homes, from dealing kindly and justly with them: for Allah loveth those who are just.
And this is also an answer for your previous lies.

Now about killing other Muslims:
[4:93] Anyone who kills a believer on purpose, his retribution is Hell, wherein he abides forever, GOD is angry with him, and condemns him, and has prepared for him a terrible retribution.
I think this is enough to prove my point.

muhairi8. I take it, then, that those who flew planes into buildings on 911, are now burning away in hell forever, true? The 45 Islamic, British doctors who were trying to create mayham in Britain recently would be in hell now also, IF they were successful in THEIR efforts, true? If you say yes, and you actually believe the scriptures from the English translated Quran YOU apparently follow (and it's NOT "Al-Takiyah" to hide what you may REALLY think), but, scriptures that REALLY keep YOU from strapping on a bomb, then, we MUST have these scriptures sent to mosques where hatred and terror are being taught. Could you please DO this for us, muhairi8? Are you BRAVE enough? You could save a LOT of lives and, prevent a LOT of suffering AND, keep the thought of intern camps out of the minds of Leaders who might now be thinking Bush lies every time he says Islam is a peaceful religion.

But you are more inclined to believe they went to Paradise, right? Or, will YOU, (believing the FBI might be reading this and fear for your freedom say with the blessings of suras 3:28 and 16:106 DEEP in your mind) write, (through compulsion), "No! Allah, NO!!! They belong more in HELL because it...it...ah, go against QUR'AN AND Hadith! We LOVE you! Jew NOT ape, Christian NOT pig! Muslim can be friend of perceived infidel NOT be cut off from merciful Allah! 1)3:28 and 16:106 (Muslims are not allowed to be frineds with non-muslims) prove it?
2)Jew NOT ape (The Quran says that all of the Jews are Apes) Prove it?
3)Christian NOT pig! (The Quran says that Christian are pigs) prove it?
I want you to prove everything you said if you can.
I'm waiting. LIAR
