In the annals of perks enjoyed by American corporate executives, the founders of Google may have set a new standard: an un-crowded, federally-managed runway for their private jet that is as close as can be to being in the company's own backyard.

Why is this a news story?

A couple of billionaires are paying NASA a hefty fee for the use of an airstrip....so WHAT?!? It's their money, they can do what they want, if NASA says it's O.K. - and is getting paid for it - what's the harm?

Once again the poor rich people are outdone by the Mega rich. My heart goes out to the guys with private jets having to land in San Jose, and then the 2min ride in the limo to the heli pad, its just sad, very very sad.

The story was supposed to be amusing, not a major scandal. And no, Google is not in direct competition with Netscape.

It is a amusing story, did you see where the local people of Sunnyvale are opposing basically any aircraft using the field (including Google)

"To this day, Sunnyvale, which is on the Moffett Field flight path, has a policy statement opposing "commercial aviation, general aviation and air cargo at Moffett Field.""

Even thought they chose to live in the flight path to Moffett Field.

I say good for Google, or any other company that signs a agreement to use the field. We need to open up more airports (and build new ones) instead of closing the old ones down.
