Mr. Nifong violated the primary premis of the american judicial system... "one is to be presumed innocent until PROVEN guilty". Sadly, the media failes to respect that principalas well.

I find it very interesting that since this man has been out that one rarely hears or reads the words in the Left biased press. Why is that do you think?
Mr. Nifong, a Democrat, is running against two opponents, both Democrats. The election is 21 days away, though if no candidate in the May 2 election receives more than 40 percent of the vote, a runoff will be held May 30.
His disgraceful conduct was for political gain. Seems that is the way of today's demcrat(ic) party

If you note it says former prosecutor. He has already resigned and been stripped of his licence to practice law.
I think the only thing he's running against is a contempt charge.
This case however seems to have more to do with one man's arrogance and stupidity than it does with Democrat or Republican. I must say I have seen enough of those behaviours on both sides lately.
The point here is your comment makes no sense since he isn't running for anything at this time. It might have had some meaning when Nifong was still in office but at this juncture your comment is merely meaningless drivel.
As are most of the rantings I see from frustrated right wingers like you.

Where is Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and the other liberal charlatans, who jumped all over these teenage kids, and tried to ruin their lives and reputations. A hell of a lot more than an apology would be nice, but that at least would be a good start. The politically correct weasels will never admit when their wrong, they are just lining up their next victims.

This is great, he should be given the same treatment he tried to mete out to those boys, who he knew was innocent! Trying to build a big political career by railroading decent people, wonder who thought that up?11 LOL

I still would like to see the judge force Nifong to pay all court costs and attorney fees for his actions. The families of those boys should not have to pay anything. If it wasn't for Nifong's incompetence the families and the boys would never have had to face this humiliation and charade. The boys records should be wiped clean of this case, if it hasn't been done already.

Difficult to see the bronze statute, at first I thought it was Vader, and thought it was fitting for the story.
There are a lot more that are guiltless of any offense, but are tried nonetheless because its good for "policy" unrelated to law.
See .. http://www.post-gazette.com/win/default.asp
Having experienced the "system" myself I believe that the current legal system does not work at all.

Judge Smith should calculate the time the boys were first accused and vilified by most people, to the time when they were actually exonerated, multiply that number of days time 3 (the number of boys) and THAT should be Nifongs MINIMUM sentence. 30 days for this is BS. His fine should be 3 times the court costs of the boys, NOT $500.00. This should go on his record as a felony and he would not be able to run for any office, including dogcatcher.

"The April 6 Chronicle featured a full-page ad supported by 88 Duke faculty members. Asking "What does a social disaster look like?" the signatories stated without qualification that something had "happened to this young woman [Mangum]." They based their judgment on the DA's uncorroborated allegations."
I keep wondering if they can punish the 88 faculty members that signed that petition and fed the fire....

As bad as Nifong is, consider that his actions were an attempt to appeal to the democratic base, then ask yourself why the base of that political party would respond positively to Nifongs criminal abuse of power.
Tells you a lot about the kind of people who are trying to take over the country from the majority.

where is all the liberal ACLU outcry about what this power mad loony did to these boys--and how many other times has this happened that werent found out--this is another example of politically correct liberal justice gone totally mad-this is why we need strict constructionist judges in the federal benches and supreme court--we have 40 years of wacky activist rulings to deal with-starting with roe v wade--just plain bad law

Oh, I don't know...you could say that the wheels of justice turned slowly in this case, but ground exceedingly fine.
The boys have all been exonerated. None of them were convicted or plead guilty to any crime in connection with this case. The university has apologized to all of them.
Nifong has been stripped of his position and his profession, and will serve the humiliation of being jailed (if even for only a day) for abusing his office. As the saying goes, "he'll never work a day in this town again".
Perhaps not the perfect outcome, but not a bad one. The ACLU was not needed to bring this all about. The federal government did not need to get involved. It took some time, but North Carolina eventually took care of business.
Justice served...enjoy your freshly pressed orange jumpsuit, counselor.

I can;t agree El Jefe. Yes today that seems okay, but 20 years from now these boys will be in the work force, when they applied for a job questions like ;have you ever been arrested; 20 years from now might be hard to explain. When you consider most companies today do background checks on perspective employees, up pops an indictment for rape, is the HR person going to dig further or just go with the one that doesn;t have a rape indictment against them. Its not fair but that;s how it is going to work, human nature doesn;t change that much.

Could you tell me again who's life has been destroyed? Without looking it up, can you name any of the boys?
If one of them showed up at your place of employment looking for work, what do you think the reaction would be?
A) Oh, you're the kid who raped that hooker!
B) You poor guy! Well, I hoped you learned to not associate with disreputable people, and I'm glad to see that they eventually cleared your name.
Now, what would be the reaction if Nifong showed up looking for a job?
A) It's awful what they did to you for just trying to do your job.
B) I'm sorry, but you just don't seem to have what we're looking for here, Mr. Nifong. (Whispered as he leaves: Don't let the door smack you on the butt, you lying dog!)

those boys did commit rape in my opinion. arrogant collage jocks, they think their gods and can get away with anything. they usually do too. they have the money and good lawyers to rip apart the accuser on the stand, and any evidence.
f*ck, one even bared the victim from using the word rape to describe what happened to her.

PaulTShoink1 year, 1 month ago
There wasn't one piece of evidence that they had any sexual contact with her, or even that any of them were ever alone with her in a room, let alone anything that would hint that they committed rape.
Don't need fancy high-priced lawyers to get away with something that you didn't actually do.

Hello. Jasmine You need to look at the facts. One of the Boys that was accused left the party hours before the time of the falsely reported rape and proved he was not there by presenting a stores security camera film that matched bank records of him using his ATM card. And finally the girl admitted it never happened even though she had Jessie Jackson, The Rev. Al Sharpton, the Press and the ACLU on her side. ANd then there is Nifong himself withholding DNA samples that did not include any of the accused.

Actually you do need fancy high priced lawyers to get away with something that you didn't actually do. But it shouldn't be that way.
This is how the justice system works. It is all about money for lawyers. These kids came from families who had money. The laywers and DA knew that. I wonder how much money ended up in the hands of lawyers over this? It was only because they had money and kept pushing that the DA and the system were exposed.

the law is geared to men. want proof, how many women are in prison for killing their abusers?

'deal with it' its so easy to offer advice like that but its so much different if your the one suffering. heres my advice. dont try to understand how i feel and dont tell a rape victim to 'get over it' or 'deal with it' its just insulting. I know for a fact that some men are rapist, but that doesn't mean that all of them are. Every time a girl like that makes false charges against a man for something he didn't do, people give real rape victims less credibility, and insisting that truly innocent guys are guilty makes it worse. If you want to help woman who have really been victimized more power to you, just make sure the woman really was a victim. Because if they were not a victim and you help them with what they are trying to do you hurt the real victims. Just because someone is a man doesn't mean they are guilty of a crime.
There are some woman who can be just as rotten, as the worst men out there. Don't help those kinds of woman.

"all of you guys defend the rights of rapists."
Well first, even rapists have some rights. Just not as many as people who are innocent of crime. And everybody has a right to a fair trial, no matter what they did or how guilty they are. As they said in the old west, "First we'll see to it that he gets a fair trial, and then we'll hang him."
"they got away with it and trashed her name."
Let's see what really happened...they hired a stripper for a sleazy party. She pretty much stiffed them, and did not provide the entertainment that she had promised (sleazy, but legal, stripping). There was an argument, and after a while, she left with her money. THEN she filed a rape report, but couldn't identify any of her "attackers". THEN, weeks later, she said that she wasn't sure that any penetration had actually occured. Mind you, she never said she was under the influence of any drug...but she can't even remember if she was penetrated??!!
