"After breaking through the ceiling of the mine early Saturday morning, rescuers banged on the metal drill to draw the attention of any survivors, shutting down all the equipment and lights on the surface to listen for sounds from below."
"A first, 2-1/2-inch (6-cm) drill pierced into another area of the mine late on Thursday. There was no sign of life when a two-way microphone was lowered into the mine, and tests in that hole showed oxygen levels in the chamber were too low to sustain life."
(( Please keep praying for them ))

I agree with you ... it has already been publicized (SINCE the collapse) about the significant numbers of safety violations assessed against his mines.
Just like the Sago disaster last year - and what has the government and/or the mine owners done about safety? Apparently NOT much ....

Is the owner of this mine coordinating the rescue efforts? Has he asked for help from any one else? I can't seem to find that information. It would seem to me that the best minds in the country would have been asked to help coordinate that. Maybe I'm wrong that this would be the protocol?

If they are in fact dead, I hope they went quickly during the initial collapse.
The only thing worse than knowing they perished would be to know that they suffered and died slowly.

I agree with you, stoners, mtnman and bubba2. The only answer to me that makes sense is $$$.

It's not "learning" that is the problem.
Ciera Marie is right ... what rules execs and CEOs of big corporations is the almighty dollar. These days, corp execs, for the most part, could care LESS about the front-line workers who get paid cr*p wages but who work the hardest to help those execs buy their 15th house and their 10th boat.
THAT is the real tragedy these days ...

My prayers and tears go to the families of the miners; sorry, but I don't see them surviving this long without rescue/survival gear...the same stuff the owners yanked because it cost too much to maintain...as to the owners and stockholders; I pray that they contract an incurable venereal disease that can only be treated with lye soap and a steel wire brush.

During this rescue attempt it seems people did not know where to look.
Miners should have to wear gps chips.
After all we seem to be having more and more of these "accidents." At least if they did this they could have some hope in finding people.
I can go to a bar and buy oxygen so why isn't any oxygen stored down there-have tubes in periodic locations for people to breathe.
Oh I know, every penny saved is more stock or profit for the right.
Next they will be saying it is the miners fault they perished.

WTF is going on, now???
People get trapped in that mine for so many days, all you all do is drilling a hole to hear if anbody's still breathing?? You don't know where to look, that's what it is? And you've been saying that since the first day!! What about start digging that f**king hole, man!! You don't have time and can't afford wasting any more time in situation like this, don't you know??? Can somebody explain to me why, why, why??? We are shooting a shuttle into a space all the time, it's a piece of cake! Why is this so hard for you to think of doing something quick?? Are all your brains fried now??? Use your f***ing two hands, man! DIGGGG IT.. DIGGGG IT.. DIGGGGGG IT!!! It just p*ss me off, man!! Go find RAMBUTT, OOPSS!! Sorry, RAMBO, maybe he can help!!
Oh well! Big Lawsuit is following now, be prepared, I guess!

Kudos go out to all of the comments from caring folks, that I have read thus far & kudos to Stoners for posting this sad, but true article. I am afraid it is too late, as I believe they were killed instantly, or more than likely burind, on account of the "earthquake", baloney!-klr60

Murray owns 19 mines & yes, there is a BIG lawsuit coming, but he can afford the best lawyers in the world-if in fact, they have perished, the suit will go on for years as he will blame it on the "earthquake", contrary to seismologic reports-klr60

klr60:
But those rescuers don't believe the way you believed. They think those miners are still alive that's why they want to make sure first by drilling the hole to listen to if they still can hear anybody's breathing down there, if not? What the hell? They are dead, now they can take it easy and dig!

Guess you are Republican. FYI: Bin Laden is not in Iraq, he is in Pakistan. So move the bombs from Iraq to Pakistan. And get one to blow this mine, so it is out of the news.

Bombing that mine is too horrible, don't you think? Those miners maybe are already dead. You want them dead twice?
We need to bomb those snail rescuers's a**es so they can dig a little bit faster. And with 30 years experience Mr. KLR60 had in mining, he can give them a hand digging too, he knows where to look for.
