I have no problem with the program. I do have a problem with how it ia run. It should have been bid out and awarded to a company that has expertise in dealing with these things. The interest on the money would have more than covered any administrative fees.

Yeah, and if it was really funded, there would not be a 5 billion dollar shortfall, should everyone who needs the money request it.

Many people think that the Federal Gov. and Bush hates NOLA, yet when the local government got their first large check, what was their first building priority, nope not rebuilding houses, they really, really needed a sports stadium first and foremost. Local and State governments in LA are among the most corrupt in the nation and back scratching in the good ole boy network exceeds perceived notions of the claims of Bush and his buds.

Maybe David Vitter should be doing more to help NoLa, instead of hiding; maybe he can help get the red light district rebuilt.
Mary Landrieu has certainly been an advocate for Federal aid to Louisiana...and Kathleen Blanco has cettainly been getting smeared by the Republicans there. It's almost certain that a Republican will be elected governor there next election cycle. That may be a goal of the entire process for the Administration, getting more Republicans elected...because it hasn't been helping Louisianans rebuild.

Seems like a repeat of Katrina. There was a lot of 'trouble' at local levels too. Not all the problems was at Fed levels.

The house and senate are controlled by the Democrat pary. Perhaps they should step up and fix this.
(CNN) -- Despite the new Democratic congressional leadership's promise of "openness and transparency" in the budget process, a CNN survey of the House found it nearly impossible to get information on lawmakers' pet projects.

See my response to slate; the same response applies to your comment.
No doubt the Republicans in Congress would strongly object to allocating any more to La, as long as it remains in Democratic hands, on the grounds that Americans are responsible for their own fates, and that government assistance is just more interference.

Is this all in comparison to the idiots that ignored the situation, then offered inept help at best? That would be Bush and his cronies, in case you need a picture drawn for you.

It's about time the feds stop start exercising better judgment plus priorities, and start charity at home instead of giving greenback$ to foreign aid to undeserved, and ungrateful nations who owe a great debt to this country. I hate to see these good folks apply for loans, and find out later that they are in the red, and can't make any restitutions to they're creditors.

Fairness questions aside, critics say the Blanco administration fumbled the handling of the federal aid it did secure. Hoping both to secure maximum money for rebuilding and ensure residents behaved properly by rebuilding their destroyed homes, she created the quintessential paternalistic government program: aiming to please every conceivable constituent, bloated by a micromanaging bureaucracy and bound in a thicket of attached strings.
In tackling what seemed the simplest of tasks -- handing out the federal government's money -- the state instead designed an expensive exercise in social engineering and forensic auditing of every cent paid out.

It is a shame that our so called leaders are not prosecuted for misappropriation of funs. Money just disappears when the people in need are promised it.

It's more a shame that everyone thinks the government is responsible for everthing and we as people are so dependent on the government we cannot take care of our problems! HMMMM a kind of novel idea! But actually plan for our own problems with insurance and saving accounts! You know like in the olden days!
