Netscape's Traffic Revealed: 10 Million Monthly Uniques

News – The Netscape.com domain received almost 12 million uniques in June. Although many tools label them "visitors," uniques technically count the distinct cookies received from or sent to visitors. Folks, that makes us number 77 TOTAL. Rock the 'Scape!

This makes Netscape the number 77 site listed. That's out of 20,259,197 sites, people.

I am personally very proud to be a member of such a vibrant, useful, informative on-line community. Thanks Netscape.

How are they monetizing that? What do they owe us as regular posters?

Aren't you getting your regular participation check? You should ask about that - they probably owe you several hundred dollars by now.

*AND* i would like to point out that these social networking sites tend to break out in YEAR TWO. so, netscape--if AOL stays the course with the current format--will break out to 15-20M this year... I'm 100% sure of it.

Wow that is actually really impressive. I honestly didn't think it would be that high.

We can thank ourselves and Netscape for its success.

Will Netscape now make a serious effort to fight the spammers who are trying to game the site?

I don't know, but I do know that there is discussion about that very thing among the 'addicts'.

We have to strive for greater registration though. Too many people lurking in the shadows. Only 300,000 registrants ever, most of which have come and gone. This means most never comment or vote. I, for one, want to hear their voices!

I agree with that. So that means that we need to improve the 'quality' of our content. I think we have very good content, but we need to improve it. For instance, I think the Front Page should be split into four section with each section containing ten 'front page stories' based on votes as they are now. The sections could be the top channels on Netscape like Politics, News, Religion and Health and Fitness. That way instead of having just 25 stories there would be 40. Further, each section would have the 'top contributors' and a Netscape Anchor recommends section along with a NewsQuake (which we do NOT promote enough) blog dedicated to the stories in that channel. Also, there could be a voted on section for the 'Op-Ed of the Day' in that particular channel (and all of the channels for that matter). Basically, it would change the architecture of the site to have 9 pages with four channels each. There are 33 channels now.
