I don't know if the area leading up to S. Lake Tahoe is just particularly dry, but everytime I've driven up there half of what I see is destruction from recent forest fires. I think I've only seen that once going up 80. Even residents weren't shocked by the fire. I imagine homeowners insurance is probably pretty high.

I didn't know the timber industry was interested in removing downed and dead trees. My impression is that they go in for High Profit Clear Cutting.
The most recent National Geographic has some shocking pictures and info. about the lumber industry in Alaska. Apparently they operate as if the year is still 1890.

Since when does the timber industry clean uo downed trees.
You are an ignorant basher who hates liberals but doesn't understand the facts, so you just make them up.
Even the most ignorant right winger could not find a source to verify your statement.

We haven't had too many good winters lately. I think we were at about 50% of the snowpack this year. And I'm pretty sure we've only hit 100% like two or three times in the last decade. With the popularity of the area it's really something of a miracle we don't have bigger fires each and every year.
But not to worry, libsrfunny will just bring in the logging companies and they'll just clear-cut the whole Tahoe basin. That should take care of the problem in the future!

So it's all the fault of the environmentalists that people lost their homes. I guess the Einsteins who decided to put an urban setting in the middle of a high dense forest are completely blameless.

Does it being an illegal fire make it that much worse or are they trying to pin it on something.

Ladies and Gentlemen. Fire is a natural part of the cycle for most plants in Southern California. For example: Pine Tree cones DO NOT open until a fire has come through, in fact the cones are coated naturally by the plant in a flammable substance. This is NORMAL, even the Chapparal (sp) lining the mountains around Los Angeles have their life cycles intrinsically linked to the fire season. Fire is good for the environment, it is only man's obsession with limiting fire that makes things bag.
Mopaman: The winter in California wasnt really a winter there's very little snowpack this season making it super dry. Consequently there are harsh fire regulations in effect for many of the Forests in California. It is up to the recreational user to know what is legal and what isnt. Ignorance of the law is not an excuse and can led to things like fires. If they find who had the illegal fire they become financially responsible for part of the cost of fighting the fire.

HateKoolAid: Its the homeowners fault. There are laws in effect that require individuals to set a fire break around their house. It is also the responsibility of the home owner to know the type of property he or she is buying. Thats why you pay lots of money to Prelimintary Title Companies etc. READ THE LEGAL DOCUMENTS YOU SIGN!
LibsRfunny: The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation actually goes into places like the Sequoia NAtional Park, the Immigrant Wilderness and the Golden Trout Wilderness to cut downed timber/dead timber and then dispose of them.

Pay for insurance all your life, and when you use it, the rates go up?? sounds like they like the income, but not the outgo. A little like the "Black hand", or the mafia..
