Jobless Claims Rise Unexpectedly

News – The number of newly laid off workers filing claims for unemployment benefits shot up unexpectedly last week, rising to the highest level in two months. The Labor Department reported that unemployment claims totaled 324,000 last week. Analysts said that the increase did not change their view that the labor market remains healthy.

Gee, ever bought a car? I walked out several times after I caught them in absolute lies. I believe that this was probably the case with many of the mortgage loans as well. I can't fault people as heavily when it is something they don't buy on a regular basis, like a home. Rest assured, everyone in the process is looking to take advantage of them.

Ever hear of "Truth in Lending" laws?

View point only changes perspective! Some individuals are doing quite well from the war economy - war has that property, some will say that's why we're at war - maybe! I do remember a time when inflation was a commonly quoted figure and was considered a fair economic indicator - no longer it seems. Plus the arguments from one perspective that denies anothers viewpoint is just spin from another's perspective - reflecting only that position. Look thru' another's eyes with understanding and you'll see. Ford, GM and Mercedes/Chrysler used to be the largest driving force in the US - are they now, NO! Mercedes themselves found themselves suddenly in possession of an unwanted company - remember? Now people are buying alternative fueled vehicles - mainly Japanese and fuel prices have gone thru the roof - what does that mean to the common man - hey? Changing economic indicators is just cooking the books to suit a perspective - a denial, but the common man is learning now to see thru' the ******!

Hey Saint! Maybe you and Tony Robbins can get together and do a tour around the ghettos of the US. I bet it would make us all feel warm and fuzzy inside. However, it may be hard to hear you with your head so far up your rectum.

Mr. Breakmyheart(not),

That would be a good suggestion, if I CARED about the people living in ghettos.

But since I don't, and you DO, why don't YOU give every last dollar you have, every last bite of food you possess, every last piece of property to the impoverished and the homeless. Would that make you feel better? All warm and fuzzy? Come on, Break-my-as*, put your money where your big mouth is.

Can't do it? I thought so. Most Liberal bleeding hearts are Hypo-Hypocrites, too.

Man you really are as stupid as everyone here thinks. First of all if I do give to charity, actually it was recently revealed that middle class and poor people tend to give more money to charity than the rich.

I do support Micro Lending.

Do you know what Micro lending is?

No. A fascist, Chubby, penny and quarter licking, blowhard like yourself would not know the first thing about it. Guys like you believe that they are better than everyone else because you had a few breaks and made a LITTLE money.

I am a successful man who made much of his success on his own, but I never forget that I had to get a little help and luck every now and then.

Guys like you live with your parents till your damn near 30, have mommy and daddy pay for your education and then have the gall to pretend like you are some self-made big shot.

saint go home hug your kids and kiss the dog, they know daddy is a dumbass.

And there, folks, lies the entire problem with the world of corporate pigs. Into the killfile you go, you quite obviously are more worthless than just about anyone I can imagine, and your opinion has about the same value as a sack full of feces.

Next time you try and form an opinion, you bigoted buttwipe, do yourself a favor and keep it to yourself.

Why is that we have to label someone a liberal or a conservative if they have a viewpoint on a subject? I am liberal on some things and conservative on other.

It as if you so called "conservatives" get a cupie doll for agreeing that you're playing devil's advocate.

It's almost embarrassing to think that we live in a so called "Democracy" and only have 2 major political parties to show for it.

I mean wake up? Stop being sheep

Because Saint likes to hump them!

Jobless claims will continue to rise. Why pay an Ameican a fair wage when you can hire an illegal to do the same job cheaper? That defines our representatives in our leadership roles who represent not you but big business. As a manager I refuse to hire the Mexican illegals that inundate my area in California, they are a fact of life since your representative, especially Reid, Kennedy Pelosi and their ilk do the same, they represent big Business, not you. You are just a middle class peon who will diminish as times goes by. You are represented by, "No one". As an independent I will not vote for one more democrat to any office, including dog catcher, in the future. I despise what Repulicans have become including, deficit spenders, intrustion into American lives, big government and war mongers but I will first vote independent and if no choice a Republican. You democrats are just plain obnoxious idiots who do not represent the average American but Big corporations.

Questions, as of the now the Democrats far outweigh the Neocons in promoting illegal aliens having a path to citizenship. Its all about the money. Why are the voices against this new law mostly Republicans? If you can answer that with a common sense answer, I am ready to listen. If not I will retain my current understanding of this abysmal party who failed to defund the war and speaks with forked tounge.

Nelson,

I posted this on the recent Harry Reid story:

-

I think the notion that liberals are all in lockstep behind this immigration bill is misplaced. I am against it and I am not alone. Air America's Thom Hartmann expresses my thoughts the best when he says that what we have is an "illegal employer" problem. And one of Stephanie Miller's co-hosts has stood firmly against illegal immigration, prompting some lively debate and some agreement with the callers and guests.

Now, I have absolutely no problem with anyone wanting to come to America for a better life...after all most of us have immigration somewhere in our family history. But today's immigrants must go through the same channels that others before them have used to become legal U.S. citizens. That means learning English and some history and civics so that they may fully participate in American society. That means applying for a green card so that they can be hear legally UNTIL they become U.S. citizens.

If you'll remember, in the '80s, when amnesty was granted - laws were passed that would penalize employers who hire illegal aliens. The biggest problem with this whole issue is that those laws have been loosely enforced. In fact, most of those employers have been receiving a wink and a nod since the '80s. And here we are, 12 million illegals later.

And the administrations of Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush (along with the Congresses which served under them) all deserve some of the blame here. Had we been enforcing the laws all along, we would not be in the shape we are in now ...and especially in the time since the election of Vincente Fox in Mexico (but that's another long post)...

avatar

Our government needs to enforce the laws that would penalize employers that hire undocumented immigrants, instead of trying to crack down on people who have come to our country only seeking a better life (this approach is a futile effort, IMO, and serves only to inflame the xenophobes...but little else). We must also reverse trade agreements which allow for the disparity in wages between countries to continue and that encourage corporations to outsource our jobs to other countries in an attempt to expand the bottom line.

Truth is, this is not the left-right issue some make it out to be, but an American issue that needs a solution...and this bill ain't it....

avatar
Reply

Scott - Yes I agree on most but you cannot take what is occuring now as even handed. The Democrats are leading the charge for illegal immigration. All of us are truely immigrants and our forefathers came into America legally.

Your post still fails to explain why this is not a bipartisan issue since Democrats are mostly in favor while Republican are generally against it. Without the Republican majority this bill would have already passed.

The excuse, illegals are doing jobs Americans wouldn't do, is a fairy tale to appease the masses. The truth is to keep wages low to satiate the likes of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce who represents big business. So who does your Democratic representatives represent?

By the way the Democrats were going to make the war go away, what happened. The Democrats were going to make it impossible for an elected Representative convicted of a felony to receive a fat pension and benefits, what happened? The list goes on an on, need I say more?

People like etienne are just immature idiots that plague America and follow those waiving the green. Why don't you go and take your economics guidelines that apply just as much in the real world as the laws of probability and shove it. You remind me of those idiotic highschoolers that just had their first class of something and learned something new and felt like posting it everywhere to nurture their inferiority complexes.

xlax,

I'm glad I remind you of your long-gone, far-off youth.

Sorry you didn't spend any time or effort making something of yourself. But why get mad at me because I did? Am I to be reviled because I earned some money, wisely saved it, and used it to make more? Don't get mad at ME just because you spent all your money on fast food, lottery tickets and cheap booze.

Honestly, people, you need to get over your "money is evil" complex. That way of thinking went out with the Dark Ages.

avatar
Reply

Funny how you assume so much. I guess 2 hours displaced warrants the terms long-gone, far off youth. No one here gives a s*** about how rich or how "wise" you are. We don't care for your idiotic comments about the economy of which you only know in cookie cutter form. Of course you would scream at everyone for saying CEO's are evil people, after all you emulate the image. Ever thought of the idea that the you don't occupy the universe? Or does that only come into concern when you are in the mood to exploit? No not everyone who are unemployed are idiots who wasted their youth. Some people can't find job because of outsourcing. Not all outsourced jobs were for simpletons, tell that to the electronic technician who spent 4 years in college and can't get a job simply because the electronics are in some other country along with the factories. Money isn't evil, its just a nice poison in the world.

I'm sorry to hear that. I changed careers this year. I was unemployed for about three weeks and decided not to bother to file for benefits. And it could be worse...I know of others with more education than I...who are having to settle for hourly jobs and working to exhaustion because the jobs in their chosen field are drying up. The "great economy" is only good for Wall Street and the CEOs.

The average middle class American is being reamed while exhausting credit. We'll be paying the ramifications for quite a long time....

You think its bad now!!! Guess what my friends, better not get your hopes up about things getting any better!!! If the democrats gain control of the White House they have every intention on raising my taxes.. Guess what happens then, I get rid of people that I could do without!!! Which means MORE UNEMPLOYED CITIZENS without benefits!!! Way to go democrats... The funny part of that equation is that it wont effect me the least bit....

avatar

Unfortunately, I'll have to vote "bad" on this one, because there's no selection that says "stupid."

If you are in the highest tax bracket i hope they do raise your taxes. You have to make the better part of $ 350,000 after deductions to be taxed at that rate. It would put you in the top 1% of taxpayers. I wish I had that problem, and so do 99% of the rest of the populace.

This is unusaual because it is summer time. Usually a lot of construction and outdoor work going on.

I know a lot of places begging for help. But yet they will not pay a decant wage or give out a good amount of hours. A lot of grocery stores and such are resorting to the 16 year old and under. They really cannot expect a 40 year old to work for $6.50 an hour for 20 hour workweek. Of course these places expect you to be flexible also.

If I was a kid I would mow lawns or detail cars. The wages are not liveable or the hours.

All this means is that 340,000 "illegals" have gone back to Mexico for a conjugal visit. US currency is stronger than the Euro because of what's backing it up and other reasons I won't belabor. But a dollar isn't worth much in the States, is it? All the opions in the world won't change anything. As long as we are given the choices by the elite to vote on we will never see a difference. The BIG question is, how we, the masses, can regain an honest choice in electing our political leaders.
