So Dubai has cities like the ones we see in the movies, the only difference is... Dubai is real.
That place for sure will be on my list of places to go to before I kill myself with Mcdonald's Double Chesse Burger. :)

  You are right, it is a very nice place to visit, and to do business, anyone who is in business must invest in Dubai. They have a very low taxation, food is cheap and delicious, and very safe place to live. People who work there are mostly foreigners.

I love arcitechture! I wanted to be an arcitecht in college until I found out how much math was involved! hahaha. we all have our weak spots. At any rate I alwasy thought the UAE were moderate? The port deal that got shot down a while ago. Does anyone know the specifics?

As a Web Developer, their Internet City with 0% tax and 50 years of 100% foreign ownership is VERY attractive. They sure know how to attract foreign investors.

From the pictures the city looks absolutely beautiful and clean. 0% tax, my goodness, however do they do it :)

i do not think they are any worse at extorting money from us as the oil refineries based in the good ol USA..
start by controling their obsene profits and wages paid to the executives.. perhaps then the prices might fall..
i would love to go to dubai one day and although i like asia dubai is definitely on my list of travels..

It's part of the United Arab Emirates. When asked by a Congressional committee why he did not execute Clinton's order to take out Osama bin Laden with a missile strike on ObL's terrorist training camp in Afghanistan, DCIA George Tenet responded that if he had done so he would have "killed half the Royal families of the UAE who were camping near him".
These are the people that the Dumbya dictatorship wanted to operate America's ports.
Halliburton, the infamous war profiteer which pays Cheney an annual deferred income and is currently under investigation for various contract fraud, has relocated its corporate headquarters to Dubai.

  Bear in mind that that it was Halliburton's own auditors who found the overcharge on gas that was played up so heavily during the 2004 election, not the government.
  And in regard to the Dubai ports deal, why is it ok for the US to invest in firms and do business in other countries, but wrong for the UAE to do the same?

    Bear in mind that there are MULTIPLE allegations of fraudulent billings associated with Halliburton's no-bid contracts.
    Most Americans would probably agree that fellow-travellers of terrorist organizations shouldn't be contracted to manage our nation's ports.

      I'm well aware of the multiple allegations, but let's not jump to the conclusion that they were done with intent. Would you not request the same courtesy if you were charged with something?
      And again, is there any proof that Dubai has engaged in or facilitated terrorist activity?

        As a matter of fact, Halliburton has ALREADY had to pay back $ millions because they were caught with their hand in the cookie jar ... of course, Cheney's no-bid contracts to the company he formerly ran and from which he still receives substantial deferred income, has raked in $ billions for Halliburton ... which, though under criminal investigation, has relocated its headquarters to Dubai.
        As previously posted, the UAE have already established themselves as supporters of bin Laden and his organization. Consequently, selling or leasing any sensitive infrastructure to this Islamic dictatorship should be BARRED.
        I understand that Dubai's been very friendly to the Bush crime family and other rightwing criminal enterprises - like Halliburton - that you support. (Btw - ironically, I happen to have Halliburton stock because they once acquired a company I owned. So I get all their reports, which read like the minutes of a mafia organization.)

        Uh, the criminal probe began back in 2004, could Waxman give us an update on the progress of it?
        If you don't like people taking deferred income, call your Representative and Senators about the IRS.
        The UAE supports bin Laden? How so? Because they met with him? What did they talk about? The US use to give bin Laden money, guess the US supports him too. Right?
        Of course I support Halliburton's rights. I support everyone having equal protection under our laws. Why don't you?
        And it's not a matter of love for Islamic dictatorships. We have to deal with somebody over there, and democracies are in short supply.

        Cheney RESIGNED from Halliburton after he assigned himself as Dumbya's running mate. The Board of Directors AMENDED the company's by-laws to award a resignee a severance package and gave Cheney over $20 million in Halliburton stock options. At the same time, Halliburton denied its own little employees retirement packages.
        Cheney exercised much of these options at the stock price's high of $60/share - before news of the liabilities Halliburton incurred by Cheney's merging the company with Dresser Industries was made public. Once the asbestos liabilities became public, the stock crashed to below $10/share.
        Of course, Cheney made up for this too, didn't he?
        Halliburton is a classic example of corporate welfare. Taxes from working Americans are funneled to Halliburton and are then distributed to Halliburton shareholders as dividends that are taxed at about a third the rate of payroll taxes. It's a great wealth transfer scheme from workers to the profligate.

        So what happened with those options? Oh yeah, he gave the after tax profits to the University of Wyoming, George Washington University's medical faculty to be used for tax-exempt charitable purposes, and to Capital Partners for Education, a charity that provides financial aid for low-income students in Washington, DC to attend private and religious schools.
        Evil I tell you!!!
        And yes those share holders are just making out like bandits. Especially those institutional investors who invest people's 401k money. We certainly wouldn't want those people to get a good return on their money and RETIRE someday now, would we?

        Are you denying - as Cheney falsely has repeatedly done - that he does not receive deferred income from Halliburton?
        I wonder if Halliburton would still be in business if it weren't for $ billions in corporate welfare it receives from American tax livestock and from Repugnants who have the taxpayers cleaning up the mess that Halliburton leaves in its wake.

I heard that gadgets and electronic items are really cheap in Dubai.Thanks "Universal12" for the post. I'm awaiting for your post about South Korea, Thailand, and Greece. I'll be in these places this year.

I haven't been, but my husband has spent time there. He's in the US Air Force....and yes, it is a beautiful and wealthy city where the rich vacation and the shopping was unbelievable for the guys stationed there. The rest of the story, you honestly do not want to know. You would be amazed at who is allowed to live and seek refuge there. This country is so rich that they can and do literally buy peace! That's all I'll say, the entire UAE is a "fascinating" place. Actually, it probably would be a safe and great place to live or vacation, trust me on this one :)

The profits of Haliburton, the Carlyle Group and Brown& Root have to be invested somewhere. The certainly don't want to invest in the US with funds they are pillaging from our pockets and treasury.

The United Arab Emirates is one of the most progressive, non-racist and inclusive countries on Earth, which is a lot more than can be said of the so called "United States of America". How Dare you call the UAE "evil" when you are confining people without trial in Guantanamo Bay - another classic example of American ignorance. WAKE UP!!! Try educating your population as a starter.
