seems more like bush fire !!

just to clarify, I assume you mean Bush Fire, correct?

prior to that we saw other forces exploit this beleagured society from within and outside of their government.

how sad.

No need for assumptions. That is exactly what i wrote. "Bush" Fire.

Let's hope so. Leave the planet to people who actually want to be here and do something constructive.

No, you're right. It must all be a GOP illusion. A story cooked up by FoxNews, for sure. How DARE that evil George Bush go in there and stir up trouble amongst our brown-skinned, be-turbaned friends!

I can't wait to elect Shrillary as president. She and Non-see Pelosi can reassure me and tell me everything is going to be alright. "Everybody hold hands now and sing.... - -oh, here, put this headscarf on - - sing a song of happiness and peace!"

There are many terrorists in America -- The ones that drop bombs and kill hundreds of thousands of innocents in "collateral damage."

There are many terrorists in Israel, such as the ones that threaten to bomb Iran with nuclear weapons, and the ones that wall in an ethnic group who used to live where they do now.

Almost all the terrorists supposedly responsible for 9/11 held Saudi passports.

Let's not forget the Chinese government. Responsible for milllions of deaths, torture, slavery, the forced relocation of hundreds of thousands of Tibetans (not to mention all the intentional deaths of Tibetans) and much more. They're one of our favored-trading nations.

I'll "buy" Bush's and the RepubliCon's "fight" against terrorism when they respond to terrorism of all kinds, not just the kind that puts money in their pockets.

avatar
Reply

So what if they ARE making a profit? At least they're doing SOMEthing about the problem, unlike our "friends" Canada, France, Italy, Spain, etc., who prefer to cower, hide and close their eyes, hoping terrorism just goes away.

If a profit can be made while helping a few people out and transforming a nasty, hostile region into a place that can actually function in today's modern world, what's wrong with that?

You need to get over your idea that turning a profit and making money is evil. That idea went out with the dark ages.

avatar
Reply

Profit at the expense of tens if not hundreds of thousands of lives in my mind is immoral at best. How about addressing the hypocracy of only dealing with "terrorists" in one area while we engage in beneficial trade with others.

avatar
Reply

Oh please. If we were to take on EVERYONE'S problems, WE'D be poor. Besides, what did THEY do to deserve our money, time and resources anyway?

May I remind you that the United States has given more money, raised more awareness, sent more medical supplies, technology and expertise to more nations than ANYONE else? TELL me who's done more. I'd like to know.

And we continue to try to impart our political, economic and social model on developing and third world countries around the globe, in the hopes that they can bring themselves out of the mire of poverty and repressive regimes and join us in free trade, freedom and prosperity.

What do we get for it?

Ingratitude, hostility and rudeness at best, and outright theft, vandalism and violence at worst.

You talk to me about "immorality" and "hypocrisy"? Yes, and it's exhibited by nasty, hostile foreign governments. The U.S. isn't perfect, but I don't see anyone else taking a stand, anywhere.

Can anyone tell me when the last War that made no profit was?

WWII actually brought us out of the recession does that mean FDR got us in the war for profits? Did he indeed have a hand in Pearl Harbor as a means of making profit for a few that actually helped the economy as a whole.

avatar
Reply

Actually slate, WWII got us out of the Great Depression, not a recession. BIG difference.

I highly doubt FDR orchestrated Pearl Harbor to kick-start our economy. I think that story should be filed with the rest of the conspiracy theory fictions.

What FDR wisely did, was create jobs for a nation that was out of work and on the verge of economic collapse. He also set aside money to help the people who had lost fortunes, and to people who had been out of work for a long time. These programs were SUPPOSED to end after a few years, when the country got back on its feet.

Instead, welfare increased, then increased again, to the point where we have a whole sector of the public that just lives off the backs of others. In the old days, people were too proud to do this - you couldn't GIVE them money, they would rather have earned it.

But today, no one cares, and if they can get by sponging off the public welfare, they'll not only find a way, they'll find 5 ways.

Yeah my bad I meant Depression

If we take today's atmosphere of distrust then yes FDR not only knew about Pearl Harbor, but was instrumental in it's implementation. A commision should immediately be formed to investigate FDR. Perhaps impeacnment proceedings could be started.

Excuse me but Canada is fighting side by side with Us forces in Afghanistan. We are taking our portion of combat casualties as are you. Don't belittle the assistance that a country with 1/10 of your population is providing to you as a friend and ally. With your attitude maybe canada should simply quit your little coalition and dig it's head into the sand. We don't have to be there, You however do.

Dionys,Obviously you are very young, or your people have purposely neglected to tell you that Jerusalem was fenced in by Jordan from 1948 to 1967, and would still be today if not for Israel taking the city in 1967. The fence surrounded the entire area of the Old City and was put up to prevent the Jews from entering and praying at their holiest site, the western wall. The only access from Israel into the Old City area which was controlled by Jordan was through the Mendelbaum gate, a check point through which the United Nations were the only ones who were permitted to use it. Jewish cemeteries in the old city were desecrated, the tombstones were used as urinals. Don't tell me about the Israelis, they wouldn't have built any fence around Gaza or the West bank had the intifida not forced them to do so. They lived without a fence for almost 40 years until the animals started crossing strapped with bombs on their bodies. The idea of a fence was first adopted by the arabs in 1948.

avatar
Reply

Also, I don't remember Israel denying any religion access to their holy sites in Jerusalem since they took it from Jordan in the 1967 war. In fact, all religions are given full autonomy (if you don't know the meaning, look it up) of their holy sites, including the Jewish temple mount which was taken by the moslems during the conquering of Jerusalem over 1000 years ago. The temple mount as seen today was built by Herod Just before the birth of Christ and was enlarged to hold the Jewish temple. The Romans destroyed the Temple and the Moslems built two Mosques on the temple mount- the Dome of the Rock and the Al Aska Mosque. I don't see any arab negotiating to give back the temple mount to the Jews who built it, and from whom it was taken. And for the Jordanians to fence the Jews out of the Old city so that they could not pray at the western wall, don't tell me about the benevolent, peace loving, even handed moslems. The world is being poisoned by them, look around.

Dionys,

Too bad the corporate intereests of the media prohibit them from publishing what you very nicely summarized. Well said.

The morphing of Iraq into AlQaeda has become a self fulfilling prophecy which has conveniently served as a money laundering machine to funnel tax $$ to GOP interests.

The profundity of this tragedy for US troops and Iraqi civilians cannot be overstated.

Just think of what those $$ would have done for Katrina victims. Today New Orleans remains in shambles.

There are many like me: those who are Americans and Muslims who work daily in their lives to reach out for peace. Sadly the forces of the administration, terrorists and media combined are suffocating and cannot be overcome.

Wasalm. Go in Peace.

Right on, DavePave.

The idiot liberals and their lap-dog media will continue to pretend that terrorism doesn't exist, or it's a fad that will go away, or that Bush riled them up so now they're mad at us. According to CNN, the BBC, the New York Times, MSNBC and practically all other news outlets, we need to be patient, and try to understand the terrorists and what it is they want. We really do like them and want to be friends, you see. They're just poor, misunderstood and disenfranchised people who "just need a chance".

The problem is that the media has managed to convince most of the gullible public of this malarky.

We have no illusions. Terrorism does exist. It just didn't exist in Iraq until we invaded. It's still in Afghanistan and the borders of Pakistan. It is all over the world. But you deluded idiots think Iraq is where we need to be. Just because we don't agree with you, we are traitors and unamerican? What a crock. So you are what symbolizes America? Your motives are suspect. All you want to do is smash and destroy and win at all costs. You refuse to negotiate and keep rattling your sabers. You don't want to live with the fact that you are on the losing side and followed your supreme idiot into another Vietnam. Continue to squander America's resources in lives and money and you will be complicit in the ruination of our country. You are the real traitors to this United States of America.

I'm on the "losing side"?

- I live in the United States

- I have excellent health care

- I have freedom of speech

- I have a job that makes me wealthy by the rest of the world's standards, and a safe, clean public transportation system to get me there.

- My government is a minimal interference in my life, and is doing everything they can to ensure my security.

- I have all the food I could ever want

- I have a safe, clean home and neighborhood that I live in

I'd say I'm a WINNER! How 'bout you, Charlson? Still feel like complaining? Still want to find something to gripe about? Nothing's ever right, is it?

Try living in Cambodia for a week. Or Bangladesh. Or anywhere in Africa. Or Chechnya. Or Columbia. Or North Korea. Or Indonesia. Or Myanmar......

STILL feel like complaining?

Get some perspective.

avatar
Reply

Delusional. Hang on to your wealth and things and be happy. And yes I still feel like complaining. When I see my bus headed for the cliff, I'll complain loud and clear before grabbing the steering wheel. You'd just sit in the back playing with your toys shouting full speed ahead. You see only things that affect you. You have no empathy. You don't even care if your administration's policies help you at the expense of others. As long as you're wealthy and well feed. Yes you are indeed a WINNER.

avatar
Reply

YAY!!! You finally get it.

I AM a winner because I've WORKED for it, wanted it and achieved it. And you bet I'm going to hang on to it.

Let me ask you something. Why do you feel I should sacrifice one iota of my wealth for someone else? What have they done for me? What have they done for the world? What value can they offer?

And no, I have no empathy for hostile regimes, lunatic religions and the people who support them. If we didn't need the oil from the Middle East, I'd say cut them off and let them all starve to death, or fight amongst each other until they're all dead.

I'm doing MY part, by ditching my car and using public transportation.

"Terrorism does exist. It just didn't exist in Iraq until we invaded."

How about the Iraqi connection to the first WTC bombing, or the attempted assassination of the President Bush (Sr.) when he was visiting Kuwait, or Saddam Hussein's funding of families of Palestinian suicide bombers, or the training that took place at Salman Pak.

Whets the alternative? Converting to Islam, letting the terrorists slit our throats; have more airplanes flown into buildings, or maybe a nuke in one of our cities, suicide bombers in the food court of your local mall, or terrorists gunning down our troops here in the U.S...? Maybe OBL could get together with all the folks that lost family members in the WTC, the Pentagon, and Flight 93 and they could all have a big group hug and OBL could say it was just a big misunderstanding, and he was sorry for any inconvenience he might have caused in their lives.

"You refuse to negotiate"

Negotiate with whom? OBL

"You don't want to live with the fact that you are on the losing side and followed your supreme idiot into another Vietnam."

Change that second "you" to we. If we lose this war on terrorism we all loose together. And GWB is everyones supreme idiot, get use to it.

With whom should we negotiate. THe little hitler in IRan who espouses wiping Israel off the map. With Al Queda who espouse destroying America and the west? Religious zealots are intolerant of any other thought processses than their own. THey cannot be reasoned with and you will not change their minds. We either leave them to their own or we engage them to limit their ability to strike out. THat is what we are attempting to do today. If your adversary wants to kill you it is not in your best interest to give him the opportunity.

But when innocent people die somewhere else, you guys want it GO UP IN SMOKE? When terrorism hits somewhere else than UK or USA, it's not terrorism but the nation itself becomes terrorist?

You ****** sick lame bastards. I hope you all die with your heads in your asses mother ******!

He does have a point about how people pick and choose causes they support. Bosnia was a good thing because of a group being killed but Iraq was unjust even though the same thing was happening (if you throw out the WMD slant).

In a thread yesterday, since it was in poverty stricken Africa some said so what.

We as humans should feel compassion for others around the world. Once life has no meaning you have groups willing to send their own child to blow up others for their own (cause).

My feeling go to those that lost their loved ones, not only there but around the world.

Remember, Pakistan, not Iran has WMDs, and a high jacked government taken over through a military coup.

What goes around comes around, I guess. All that training they gave for blowing up the rest of the world must have come handy for those who did it. Play with fire and you be prepared to get burned.

Very true. Sad, but true on both the counts of the US/Israel and those of the Muslims. Its the rest of us who end up living in hate and animosity and passing it on to our kids.

But, it does not have to be that way. Compassion and love are universal to all the Judao-Christian-Islamic faiths as well as the very many other ancient teachings of Hinduism, Buddhism and beyond.

avatar
Reply

Compassion and love have nothing to do with religion. Religion is a human annomily. Humans espouse a belief accept that belief as truth and refuse to accept any other concept. We are willing to kill in the name of god because that person or persons do not believe in our god. How pitiful. We have not really evolved very far have we?
