One would think that means you have done your time and now you get to be a regular American. It's strange to think they would either A) want people back who were "dishonorably discharged" and B) they would want to reward those who were exemplary, but either way they have a right to call you back.

There's nothing new here, and I think the author may be a little paranoid--as if what, her 56 year old, dishonorably discharged husband is going to be called up? Yeah, if you say so.
As for active and ready reserve, anyone who has served, and was discharged, and isn't aware of this situation, probably doesn't have to worry about being recalled, because apparently they are a brain dead idiot.
I never thought a non-story would garner so many comments or votes.

Awe Comon Psycho, how do you decide wether or not to believe something? I think I already asked you this, Do you believe that SH and Bin Laden were helping each other?
Do you believe a connection w/911 & SH
Do you believe in the Yellow cake from Niger's story?
Do you believe that SH had WMD's?
If you can believe those unfounded bits of manufactured info, than why can't you believe something that has validity? How do you pick and chose what to beleive and what not to . Seriously,I would like to know how you decide. Even in the face of many of the stories concerning the buildup to invade in Iraq have been completely been found to be made up. Hey Tenet is even coming out regarding much of this on Larry King.So do you decide not to believe the facts even when they are coming from our own intelligence and white house staff? What does it take for you to believe anything. Is it the messenger or the message that determines wether you believe something or not?

This will be my last post re: this issue.
True I have no idea who called and me why.Only data found through a tel. number. The call prompted me to do research on the subject.I was astonished at the laws and the lee-way our Gov. has under different programs. The important aspect was,not the call, but what I read in our own laws concerning the gov and mil's ability to re activate those that have already served their Country in the past.
So the call was the impetus that made me want to look into the subject further. The call is moot. It merely promted me to look further into the subject. And I suggest those that do not believe we have a back door draft, read up on the topic. I would not want someone to recieve a letter of re-activation, without knowing if and what their legal rights may be.I would not want to wish that on anyone, even those that think there are no such programs in use today.
See you on the next issue. inside outgraphics

I'm interested in anyone that has had similar experiences. Please e-mail me via Netscape News Forum. These practices should have more media coverage. I also wonder how many individuals were contacted, via mail, phone calls , and how did you respond.
Individuals that were in the Military during the Viet Nam War Era, seem to be targeted as well and I wonder just how many simply obeyed out of fear and or retribution. Also how many individuals have recieved such reactivation orders and refused. What were you experiences? Did you seek legal assistance? Is there a group or organization out there that is dealing with the issues surrounding back door draft policies in this Country? I would like to hear from you as well, because I would like to see the numbers if any are indeed available. Thank you. I really appreciate it.

I know hundreds of ex Nam era soldiers. None of them has received this kind of inquiry from the government.

They are searching data bases looking for those that have Military Service Obligations (MSO's) left. As well as specific skills, such as truck drivers, mechanics, and Communications specialist. They also are using a data base compiled of the work force in the private sector in order to locate skill specific individuals that may have remaing MSO's that can be reactivated. If your friends have met their MSO's then they are less likely perhaps to be contacted because they have completed their military obligations.

I'd tend to agree with this. Most likely through the well-known efficiency of the military, they simply had his number by accident. Only an idiot would think they're going to recall a 56 year old former draft-dodger with a prison record and dishonorable discharge.
If the story is even true.
What would they call us, the Walker Brigade?

Not baseless in the fact that they called for her husband. I wish we knew more. Were they going to draft him? Were they going to offer a sweet deal to re-enlist? Were they going to investigate the AWOL thing? Too many questions to make a conspiracy out of this. How can we assume any of the questions are correct since only one can be at one time? Due we just assume what they want and then, as the saying goes, makes *#$ out of u and me!

You're forgetting something here. She SAYS they called her husband. Add to that, the fact that she has absolutely no idea WHY they called her husband. You wish you knew more? Know this--they aren't recalling Vietnam era draft dodgers with prison records and dishonorable discharges--and they certainly aren't calling them before they call everyone else. This is some of the stupidest, alarmist crap I've ever read.

I personally wanted my husband to call the number and have them explain the details.I still may just call and ask. But the fact that his military records ended in Philly, because that is where he lived at the time, and they located him in another state via a private telephone number, tells me that they were not looking to catch up on old times:-).Why after 30 plus yrs want to speak to him. Hey how ya do-en?:-)In researching other's similar experiences, many recieve letters, others have had the same number left on their caller ID and because they didn't know the number, never returned the call.I wasn't able to locate a follow up to those cases.I learned the Mil.sent out numerous reactivation orders just 2 days befor Christmas. My Husband's work HX and Ed. meets all of the priority skills that the Mil states are high priorities,in terms of licenes, certs and qualifications. The only way they could have found him was through a private sector based data bank. Not just his old mil records.

Maybe what they should do is check on all the members of this administration who had "other" things to do the last time around and start calling them to fight in the war they love so much

These traitors have broken all of the rules and are trying for more. Most Milspec contracts have built-in statutes of limitations. But due to the fact that because Le Shrubs been busy cutting benefits for returning veterans, and violating the laws protecting activeservicemembers, recruiting is WAY down.(Who wouldn't WANT to work for someone who is actively trying to kill you, then should you survive; your benefits, instead of being guaranteed as before; are now dependant on a political prostitute who gets bonus' based on how many he turns down???)So LeShrub; who could care less about anyone who isn't in his social stratus,Extends combat time, reduces recovery time and tries to force former servicemen back into the fold.
More and more I am being convinced that the neo-conartists are gonna blow outta the country when the backlash hits.
There can be no way in hell he could f@ck this country this much and think he can live here.We already know about his estate in South America.

When the backlash hits my bet is that will Leshrub as you so nicely pointed out, will pack up his private para military and move to Paraquay.Amazing isn't it? Where he and the Sn Shrub have purchased thousands of acreas. Right next to the worlds largest electro hydro plant. How convenient{sp} Remember the twin went down there? That was around the time Bush Jr purchased his land. Seeing as Paraquay is so small, maybe they own the entire country. Plus the Gov over there just recently passed a law that makes US Mil, Para Mil. exempt from prosecution.
It's so sick what they are doing. Then again, I have little experience with living under a dictatorship. So this is new for all of us.

johnkamis64,Don't be too sure. The Mil. sent out letters to military troops that had died in Iraq for redeployment. So Don't ever say never when it comes to the Bush/Cheney War Machine. They are like the pink drumming bunny...they just keep going and going and going, without any regard for anyone.

No, actually what we have is an article, with absolutely no facts except an author who got a phonecall from someone, for her husband.
Everything else is dreamed up in her imagination. Use a little logic here guys. The man is 56 years old. He has a prison record. He's a draft dodger. He has a dishonorable discharge. Hello? Put that brain in gear and think for a change instead of looking for a reason to expend your energy bitching and screaming about NOTHING.
Trust me, if they start recalling people in this category, it'll be splashed across the fron page of your newspaper, not buried in a blog written by some paranoid housewife.

Dear Mr.Psycho,Are you aware of the lowering of criteria for mil. recruitment in this Country. Lowering the ed, standards, showing where potential recruits can purchase detox drinks and actually drive them to the store? Lowering the test scores,as well as including those that have seen jail time except in cases of murder. Say what you want, but the mil. is so desparate and the back door draft has been in the works as one of the laws was signed into effect in 04. So it does exist and the military is desparate for bodies to send to war.Under the laws they cannot be re-activated for anything BUT, a tour of duty in a war. They can't be reactivated for natural disasters or need for in country use. It is all geared toward bolstering the numbers of active duty services in the ME.
Oh, and it was a Mil. prison run by the marines.A Brig.He was not in a reg. prison. Nor is he a hardened crimimal and he has never ever been arrested ,not even a traffic violation.so he may look damn good to them now

They will let them stay until they make up their minds, the way that works here Iraq will be a bad memory by the time they make up their mind to allow them to stay. Present Canadian government does not want to pi** of US government, Canadian people don't give a flying f**k about American government so they will make our government let them in and stay, remember we put them in office and will take them out if they bow to US pressure, worked last time.

There are Conservative governments in place in Great Britain; Canada and Australia. Mostly Canada provided refuge from the draft during the VietNam war, but some fled to Australia and Britain as well.
My point is that we need to get these traitorous scum out of power, before any diaspora is required. This backdoor draft is another attempt to keep the children of privilege out of harms way. Because, this time there are no "Champaigne Units" for the "Elite" to hide from combat without actually breaking the law. This is why the Neoconartists are getting desparate:
the poor are refusing to blindly march off to be cannon fodder, and if there is an actual draft...all of these politicians are going to see loved ones actually fighting in THIER war.
Tragic; ain't it???

The only refuge I'd like to give them is our place in Iraq. We leave; civil war erupts; UN finally comes in and does the job diplomatically and provides real, respected peacekeepers. Bush is robbing America of people who could be adding to our GDP.

The local national guard reserve unit has been deployed 3 times and their stay extended twice. Most of these people are middle aged with families. I know they signed up and were not forced into service, but I doubt this is the kind of service they anticipated.

How sad. My big question, is why did you come back to this disgusting inhuman place? I would hate to see what would happen if we were attacked again. You would probably be lookling for a hole to hide in. I did 3 tours in Nam, and if there was not an age problem, I would be in Iraq. Gee, what a stupid guy you are. Go figure. You people disgust me.

patsherre,Being plopped down into a war based on lies manufactured by Bush and Cheney dosn't disgust you?Because those that ochastrated this illegal war, certainly disgust me. So I ask, where are your priorities.Or do you always ask how high when asked to jump by a group of people that dodged their Viet Nam War Era responsibilities with deferrment after deferrment as well as just plain not showing up for duty, as George did.
So how come they're alright in your book , but everyone else is disgusting to you? You're right... GO FIGURE yourself.
But I think you have double standards, so give people a break and try to understand that not everyone was totally brain washed by the Bush Cheney War machine. You want to die for a lie, fine, Call the number in the article and I'm sure they would be happy to have you back and plop your arse down into the sand w/o armour, etc ...Uncle Sam and George do want you. Now go and report for duty supporting the largest oil hiest in history.

If I can ask why would you go to Iraq? I am being very honest and non judgmental. Honer, duty, maybe even knowing other American son's and daughter's are at risk over there are reasons I might expect, please let me know. Privet message is fine if you wish.

mcgrievysr, This is just a thought, MAYBE, just Maybe, the "B" list went missing, just as George's TNG records went missing. There is a "Bush" shredder somewhere working overtime:-)
I'm waiting for them to call me.During the VN Error, I got a student loan, and even though I am a female and they didn't draft females back then. But based on my male sounding name I was threatened w/ arrerst for not signing up for the Draft. I wrote them back after many threats, saying I was a women, a Mother, was hard of hearing, had a vision problem and epilepsy, and I want to kill for my country, where do I sign up. I never heard from them again. But those records are probably in a basement waiting to be reactivated, despite the innaccuracies.
