Sure, it's his money. That doesn't mean that a lot of folks aren't upset about it.
I'm surprised by the fact that trying to start a conversation gets me labeled a bleeding heart liberal. What makes you think I want his $$$? I am only saying what many are thinking.
If I'm guilty of anything it's being honest.

Still, it's his money. He has no obligation to donate any of it to charity. He earned it. Let him do what he wants with it.

It's the American way isn't it? Backstab, swindle and cheat others so you can profit...

Actually, Russian built materials have a reputation for reliability. The tradeoff is, that while they are reliable, they don't do the job very well. Take the AK-47 for example. Fires in pretty much any conditions, but the bullet drops after about 100 yards, then rises again at 300 yards. (I could be wrong, it's been a while since I looked over the ballistics)

Apparently half way through the flight he asked where his in-flight service was? For $20-25 million you think you'd get at least a packet of pretzels! Still I suppose it can't be easy sucking beetroot soup through a fish-bowl helmet....

you will, when you can devise a way to exploit other people, destroy their living environments and get legislation written by a representative that you can contribute to. our government is for hire to the highest contributor, you know. once they get your money, they'll protect you, even from the lowly constituents they're supposed to be protecting.

Send him up in space- and let him stay up. we need to get all the rich people off the planet. If they find cheaper ways to get into space (and they will) this won't be a big deal. We would have colonized Mars by now if Nixon hadn't killed the space program in the 70's. The Russians have more experience than us, and are probably on the whole safer- they don't use shuttles. In the future this will be the same as eh difference between steam ships and sailboats. It does not need to be polluting or a waste of energy if we get the science right- all of society will benefit if we do.

This is the worst excess. We need to hope that one day those with shall help those without and not just monetarily

Why can't we see it for what it is... 1) The Russian space program needs money (as does NASA). 2) Simonyl has money. 3) Yurchikhin and Kotov are on a planned rotation to stay aboard the ISS for six months (so they were going anyway).
I think that this kind of "rich space tourist" as space program investor is brilliant.
Simonyi donates to several Arts and Sciences initiatives in the Seattle area.
I only question his taste in women... Martha Stewart???

As a civilization, we need to move beyond this one country versus another and learn to work together, combining resources, knowledge and wealth to expand our exploration of space and seriously confront the evils and inequalities on our own world.
