News – Japan issued a tsunami warning for the country's Sea of Japan coast after a strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.1 struck early Sunday. The quake struck shortly before 10 a.m. off the north coast of Ishikawa prefecture, Japan's Meteorological Agency said.
I may despise Emperor Stupidicus and the ****** Cheney,
but there's only so much you can blame on them. This isn't
one of those things.
The Japanese are lucky they got hit with such a small wave.
Oh, and for you right wing types, I don't like the morons that
the left has for so-called leaders either. All politicians are
nothing more than self-serving and worthless.
Thanks for keeping to the topic. These others here, who stand out like sore butt heads, neither have a clue nor self respect at all.
I am relieved at hearing the quake and tsunami haven't been any worst to populated areas, and that most of my family and friends in and around Tokyo and Yokohama were not directly affected -- although the Northwest coast suffered the greater losses. However, these things still impact us all who are human enough.
if japan is the most technically adepted at handling quakes and tsunamis, also being so advanced due to experience from frequent occurrance, and yet still suffers some losses, lord help us if l.a., chicago and n.y.c start getting off shore or inland quakes like tokyo does on a regular bases.. start praying!
Earthquakes are a daily event in Japan. In Kanto region, (Chiba) is where I've gone to for the last 20 years for my martial arts training and I can say that solidly 50% of the time, I've felt small earthquakes there.
When I was in graduate school there, Kansai region, there seemed to be fewer but when you felt them they were more intense. That could just be my perception as well.
Earthquakes are a natural part of life in Japan, unlike certain crazy imported fetishes or bad EU Disco which was all the rage for a while. ;-)
Cheers,
Nick
It was a 40 second shocker -- one of the longest I've experienced in this tremor-prone land. Although a couple hundred miles from the epicenter, the building in which I live shook long enough for doubts to arise as to whether it (and me) would survive. Thankfully no destructive tsunami and only one life lost.

kind of bizarre considering theres an article posted in the science section about the unpredictability and destructiveness of m9 quakes.
