This is what the citizens of Venezuela can look forward to. They are already facing food shortages despite the oil wealth.

Great.....once again we the the unintended consequences(I hope they are) of the radical leftwing Demlibs policies that put the marxist Mugabe in power who then destroyed the food producing capabilty of the country by taking all of the white farmers land and distributing it to blacks.....what a nice Demlibs socialist type of plan......when will they ever learn.....Jimmy Carter had a policy of imposing sanctions on Rhodesia, and, after Bishop Abel Muzorewa was elected Prime Minister, Carter protested that the Marxists Robert Mugabe and Joshua Nkomo had been excluded from the elections. Strong pressure from the United States and the United Kingdom prompted new elections in what was then called Zimbabwe Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe).
So this is another Jmmy Carter caused mess.....

The man from Plains also helped install Robert Mugabe in power in 1980. The thug from Zimbabwe had originally been excluded from participation in an election that voted in a moderate president on the grounds that his "party" was actually a terrorist organization (of a decidedly Marxist bent, incidentally). Mr. Carter invited Mr. Mugabe to the White House in 1980 after having engineered a second election that gave Mr.Mugabe a chance to muscle into the presidency, a post he fills to this day.

This seems to be an entry from the Conservipedia (see concurrent thread).
"President Carter helped instal Mugabe in 1980" is not really borne out by the facts since an agreement was signed (under British auspices) in March 1978 to turn over power to the black majority, by Ian Smith, Muzorewa, Sithole and others, by December of that year. Mugabe had been advocating guerilla warfare against the white-ruled regime of Smith and was not part of the agreement. British-sponsored talks between Muzorewa and Mugabe took place in September 1979 and elections, completed in Feb 1980 saw Mugabe's ZANU party, allied to Nkomo's Patriotic Front won a huge majority of black seats in the multiracial assembly.
No "Carter installation" here.
That Zimbabwe has gone from food-self-sufficient (1985) to basket-case economy in 20 years is entirely the fault of short-sighted, corrupt, and venal leadership.
The name Mugabe sits well with Amin, Bokassa, Mobutu, et al.

There is no doubt that Mugabe has wrecked this country which was once the envy of many other African countries.
But America should also be retrospective of it's own faulty policies whereby they only care if it suits it's own interests. There is this agenda which was in place and put to Clinton when he was president but he refused. Bush was there man though and he was easily manipulated and of course he has never made a mistake(LOL)

Surely you jest! We should risk our Blood and Treasure in areas beyond and in addition to those that affect U.S.A.'s interests?
Opra Winfrey is in charge of that. We have Organized Religion sucking money from our citizens every second. The National Association for Left Leaning Philanthropists has millions of non-dues paying members. These out-fits can surely go flying off to anywhere and everywhere that needs U.S.A's help. Hands off the TAX money.

Mugabe is a despot and a megalomaniacal dictator. He is also a socialist. I'm sure the US Left is busy making excuses for this tin pot dictator.
Rhodesia was once one of the most prosperous African countries. Then Mugabe booted out all the European farm owners and proceeded to wreck the country.
This is a pattern for socialism. It has never proven itself to be sustainable in the long run. The USSR kept a sinking ship afloat for 70 years by enslaving half ot Europe. And several of the European socialist economies are facing bankruptcy due to income shrinking faster than social commitments are rising.
I'm sorry for the people of Zimbabwe. They are the innocent victims of Karl Marx and Joe Stalin and Robert Mugabe.

Zimbabwe is totally a Liberal project. I just wish y'all could have been here 28 years ago to hear the Silly People hooting and hollering about the demise of Rhodesia and the raising up of "Zimbabwe". Right away things started to go wrong. You don't hear the Left talking about Zimbabwe much anymore. 28 years of total disaster and the Left has moved on to more FUN topics.

Thank you Jimmy Carter.....is there anything he ever touched that wasn't a complete disaster afterwards? For instance....It was too much to hope, it turns out, that for once James Earl Carter might just stand aside. But no, when the Palestinian Arabs go to the polls and hand control of their parliament to a terrorist organization that denies the right of Israel to exist and maintains overtly anti-Jewish and anti-American policies, who should show up to certify the elections and express his faith in the ability of Hamas to transform itself?
The former president started by describing the Palestinian vote as a "beautiful election." Asked whether he thinks there's any chance of Hamas turning away from terror, Mr. Carter said, "Yes, I think there's a good chance, Larry. I did meet with some of the same Hamas members in Ramallah, and I think they told me they want to have a peaceful administration. Of course, what they say, what they do is two different matters."

One could weigh that statement on the merits, but in this instance it's quicker to consider the source. President Carter once warned Americans, in respect of the repressive Eastern bloc, to avoid an "inordinate fear of communism." He cozied up to Soviet premier Leonid Brezhnev with the comforting statement that "the old ideological labels have lost their meaning," a line he delivered at an arms control summit, of all places.
Then there was his withdrawal of support from the Shah on human rights grounds, which led to the eventual seizure of power by an Islamic government of exceptional barbarism, anti-Americanism and hostility to Jews and Israelis. It was Mr. Carter who abrogated an American defense treaty with Free China. As an ex-president, he has cavorted with Fidel Castro, rubber stamped Hugo Chavez's elections, and pleaded with the Saudis for more money on behalf of Yasser Arafat. If Mr. Carter sees peaceable tendencies in Hamas, it must be proof of something.

I could be wrong but I betcha this article isn't gonna get a lot of attention from the Left. The silly party jist don't want to talk about it.
Now, put up an article of a really "important" event, such as "AL GORE AND GEORGE BUSH COME TO BLOWS OVER GLOBAL WARMING", and they'll all come out of the woodwork.

Robert Mugabe treats anyone who is not in favour of his "ways" with distain. It is called in English "Clean out the filth". This applies to whites who are booted off their lands whereas blacks are simply relocated to "better" places.
Not unlike what Cecil Rhodes did during his reign. Only he treated the blacks as slaves and whites as royalty.
Were it not for the British,German's ,Italian's , Dutch, French, Portugal & Spanish who colonized every country in Africa except Liberia & Ethiopia Africa would be a much better place now. Still largely living in the stone age but better. Look at Rwanda where favouring one group of people & marginalizing the other as the Dutch directly did, resulted in the death of millions. When it comes right down to it both sides(far left & far right) are extremely vicious to the other. Examples Stalin,Pol Pot,Osama, Mao,Mugabe on one side. Hitler,Franco,Mussolini, Bush, Rhodes on the other.

Another idiot who puts Bush in with his heroes...Stalin,Pol Pot, Osama, Mao, Mugabe, Stalin, Pol Pot, Osama, Mao, Mugabe and doesn't include Saddam, Hirohito or Hitler on the list...I think you should reconsider Bush on the list along with Rhodes...Rhodes actually stopped the continuous wars between tribes in Rhodesia and the farmers there grew more than enough food to feed everyone and even export some for income for the country...Rhodes had hoped to start a "new Rand" from the ancient gold mines of the Mashona, but the gold had been largely depleted long before, so many of the white settlers who accompanied the British South Africa Company to Mashonaland became farmers. The various tribal lands were grouped together and given the name "Rhodesia" in honour of Cecil Rhodes. As the company's influence extended north, land north of the Zambezi was claimed by the company, and named Northern Rhodesia. Today, these territories form the countries of Zimbabwe and Zambia.

Rhodes decreed in his will that he was to be buried in Matobo Hills, when he died in the Cape in 1902 his body came up by train and wagon to Bulawayo. His burial was attended by Matabele chiefs, who asked that the firing party should not discharge their rifles as this would disturb the spirits. Then, for the first and probably the only time, they gave the white man the Matabele royal salute Bayete.
Rhodes' will left a large area of land on the slopes of Table Mountain to South Africa. This estate became the upper campus of the University of Cape Town, part became the Kirstenbosch gardens and was spared from development and is now an important conservation area. Rhodes Memorial stands on Rhodes' favourite spot on the slopes of Devil's Peak, with a view towards the Cape to Cairo route. The cottage in Muizenberg where he died is a national monument. Rhodes was laid to rest at World's View, a hilltop 35 kilometers south of Bulawayo, Rhodesia now part of Matobo National Park, Zimbabwe.

No it is not all whitey's fault at all. But when they colonized the the country they did not exactly treat the blacks on an equal footing. Perhaps you have heard of the slave trade. Many of the things Mugabe is doing to the whites was done to the blacks under Cecil Rhodes. It's a crime either way in my books but if you don't think them blacks are as gawd as ya thers nah takking to yah.
Brooklyn Yeesh! the only thing I know about Brooklyn is what I saw on Welcome Back Kotter in the seventies. Fourth largest city in the U.S.A. Never been there, probably never will be either.

Rhodes was not involved in any of that. Almost all of the slave trade was from areas in north central, eastern and western Africa far north of Zimbabwe. And almost of the slave traders in Africa were Africans or Arab Muslims....Trade in slaves, like most of the world, has carried on for thousands of years in Africa. The first main route passed through the Sahara. Despite its illegality, slavery continues in almost all parts of the world, especially Africa.

Nobody could have foreseen, in 1980, the appalling mess that Mugabe would make of Zimbabwe. His particularly myopic brand of nationalism coupled with a self-serving refusal to accept that whites, too, could be Zimbabweans/Africans, led to the farm dispossessions.
And the whole sorry story of a withered economy, rampant corruption, and widespread violence shows no sign of ending.

DREAMING I SAW DEATH AT CAFE ZIMBABWE
-
I saw Death in Africa last night wielding a bloody scythe
reaping through rows of children once concieved with hopeful seed
in a harvest too horrid to be seen in my dreams.
Gardens of stones to mark the bones of victims sprang forth
from every drop of human blood to spill upon the earth.
.
Bio-chemical warfare waged in the stomach of a waif;
her dark eyes beautiful, tragic in a drawn mask of despair.
Into those eyes, as deep, as rich as pools of Iraqi tea,
I saw Death
.
Despair poured out upon the ground the last decanter of Hope
while Misery sipped her tea sweetened with a touch of Fear.
Not far away, Tragedy and Lord Hunger sat to chat;
much was discussed, the human race, a little of this and that
And sitting around waiting, as if with amusement on his mind,
I saw Death
