No, being trained to kill and being fed hateful propaganda in conjunction to tremendously retched living conditions however could push someone to do such a thing. But that doesn't mean that he should be out for good behavior in 10 years. In that short time he will be no better off then he is now.

Technology Expert,
You're a disgrace....What is the point of even printing this crap other than to imply that ALL of our soldiers are like this...
I choose to believe THIS story which NEVER makes it to the mainstream liberal media...Gee, I wonder why, Technology Expert ?
Shame on you...

Consider this U.S. Marine Corps boot camp chant:
"Rape the town and kill the people, that's the thing we love to do! Rape the town and kill the people, that's the only thing to do! Watch the kiddies scream and shout, rape the town and kill the people, that's the thing we love to do!"
Young men and women who enter the military are conditioned to view and treat non-Americans as subhumans, to rape and kill. We should not be surprised when they do so. It is not an abberation of an individual, it is what we do.

Natureboy,
Son, let me tell you a thing or two. I am an active duty Marine of 8.5 years who just received his commissioning. There are a lot of things that the Marine Corps has been accused of but training our young men and women to promote the trash that you speak of is not it. Older running chants (cadence as most people call them) may have been about killing but never about the atrocious things you speak of. I'll tell you what! If you think that the Marine Corps does the things that you speak of then get some backbone and join the military. If you ever hear a cadence of that you described then let an Officer know and it will never happen again. I will place my honor on the fact that you will never hear a Marine sing such a cadence. I will even venture to say that the Army will not allow it as well. Don't confuse this one bad apple with the rest of the outstanding men and women that serve our country.

I think, if you were to look at what I post, I don't discriminate. This has nothing to do with implying anything. What it is is a top story. Headlines. And that's all it is.
Or honestly, is there some agenda behind my posting yesterday that Anna Nicole's body was being given to her baby's guardian (lawyer)?
Nope, I just post stuff that I hope will be found interesting.
As far as pinning goes, I have NOTHING to do with that.

Is that what YOU got from the piece? Because it certainly is not what I got. A young man made some terrible CHOICES, and he's going to pay for those CHOICES. As it should be. I certainly don't apply what he did to all of the troops. Would you prefer all these dirty little 'secrets' be kept 'dirty little secrets' to somehow protect the decent men and women of the military? Because if that's what you think, you show complete disrespect for the ability of people to have common sense, and know that the entire military is not like this man. You, on the other hand, appear to be having the problem making that distinction.

That's your pint of view, this is legitimate news, one should not make the assumption that just because this "isolated" incident happended that all of our soldiers are capable of similar actions! That's ridiculous, but at the same time don't shoot the messengaer, it happened deal with the facts, post some positive stories of your own, buut don't assume his agenda and say he is a disgrace, a disgrace would be if our media never told the bad news but only the good...sometimes the balence is off depending on the medium...

You are wrong! News is news. If the story is about rape and murder it will get more play because it is salacious. This is not due to any political bias just sex sells. Just look at the most widely reported scandals what do they have in common; sex, violence or both.

I followed your post...darn near gave me a headrush the lenses were so rosy...
Do you mean to say that we should not hold our own to the standards we trumpet and crow about? What you posted and the story at hand here are not even in the same camp and it makes me wonder your commitment to truth.
Do your really mean to suggest that the 'news' we here at 'home' recieve only consist of 'helping orphans and walking old ladies across the street' captions? Sir, there is a war waging right now and to only believe the public should recieve happy-joy-joy news is foolish...it also reeks of statist intent and propaganda.
Insofar as the story at hand...
Should we not hold our own to acount when they sin in such a grevious and public manner? Should we not rise to the standards we preach on Sunday morning? Should we not investigate and make public (confess) our crimes lest we wear the mantle of hypocrite?
Or should we all slavishly wallow in propagandized ignorance?

I'm waiting for the "all soldiers are rapist baby-killers" crowd to weigh in on this - ignoring the suspicion that Cortez was probably a scumbag in civilian life, too. It's happened in other wars? That may be, but not to everyone, or even to a large minority. Thousands of soldiers have gone through much more intense combat for longer periods, and still managed not to become murderous rapists. You'll probably find that people who violate the laws and basic human decency in combat generally do the same no matter where they are.

Exactly. And covering their actions up because someone worries the entire military could be put in a bad light, puts at risk the public when they leave the military.

Dude, don't shoot the messenger. The disgrace is this soldier and his murdering mob buddies. Clearly, only a fool would believe that these savages represent our soldiers as a whole. What is clear to me is that at least in this case, we tried and firmly punished the criminal(s). Our GIs have to do and endure the unthinkable everyday over there; sometimes a few lose it badly. It is sad but no excuse for this type of barbarism.
I am still proud of our soldiers.

Yes, but my point is WHY PRINT THIS STUFF OR MAKE IT A LEAD STORY? For all the liberals who swear that the media is "Fox-News leaning" or owned by the conservative Right...Look at the first thing that goes up on Libscape...Where is the good stuff, the humanitarian efforts that show the caliber and integrity of our troops ?
Does this story really illustrate that ? If anything, it puts more of a bad taste in the American people's mouths...You say, "only a fool would believe that ALL our soldiers are like this", but in reality we have a lot of fools out in America that actually believe this crap. Why add fuel to the fire?

why are u complaining? why dont you be the one to post the good stuff then. I agree, dont shoot the messenger. I am actually glad this story was posted because it shows that just because they are soldiers they wont get away with the charges. Overall, it also clearly states there is something wrong with the war because the mentality of these soldiers arent in the right state of mind or if anything, us as Americans should re-evulate how our soldiers are trained.

" WHY PRINT THIS STUFF OR MAKE IT A LEAD STORY?"
Would you rather we sweep these things under the rug. If we were to do that our soldiers, our citizens, and those watching us would think that this sort of behavior is OK. I would rather have a bad taste in our mouths from a few bad apples rather than the whole bushel going bad.

FSU92grad, don't you want to be exposed to the truth then? This is a big story and i will tell you why it is important it receives prominent coverage. If it was not brought to the fore "Chinese Whispers" would tar all American troops with the same brush. However, for the authorities to be publicly seen to punish these vile b*st*rds will help the world realise that the vast majority of American troops are decent people and such behaviour will not be tolerated.

Rape and subsequent murders allways grab the headlines whether commited by one of the troops or by some looser. What diference does it make? When is politics more important than rape and the loss of life?

FSU - I can see your point to a degree. However, it is EXTREMELY important that we show all the world that this type of behavior is not acceptable.
Those are some powerful pictures in your link you provided. I agree that we need the world to see and hear of the good things that our soldiers are doing. We should see these things EVERYDAY on the news, to remind ourselves why we need to finish this senseless war. We cannot leave the Iraqi people to fend for themselves. We got them into this mess, it is our responsiblilty to make sure we get them out.

Conservatives need to know that war is not pretty. War is not clean. War is not a John Wayne movie where all Americans are noble and pure and all enemies are evil and cruel. Conservatives need to see the damage war does, not just to the enemy and to the physical well being of our troops, but to the spirit and honor of those thrown into battle. Most soldiers can hold on to their honor and principles, but some can not.
Bush/Chene... and conservatives in general who have not faced battle live in a fantasy world. They (you) need to see the dirty side of war so that in the future, the decision to engage in war will not be taken so carelessly and cavalierly. We hurt the enemy, but we also hurt ourselves.

Thanks ListenUp. As you say, I am only the messenger. I may have a slant to my views (much as FSU92 obviously does), but I POST EVERYTHING that I feel will garner some interest.
Unless of course it's a dupe .. (though I will say the dupe finder has been buggy of late).

If he would have done it in the US, the same conservatives that are deploring the publicity and clamoring for leniency for the criminal would be calling for his execution.
And if liberals did try to point out extenuating circumstances, the conservatives would immediately be shouting "SOFT ON CRIME."

To never focus on the truth hurts our soldiers.
You and your conservofascist buddies are doing undenyable damage to our troops by denying the problems in Iraq and continuing to send more and more troops into the line of fire.
That is truly anti-American...

Wrong. To point out mistakes and trim off the "bad apples" is to honor the troops. We are telling them that we are willing to remove the evil-doers so that the honor of the rest is kept intact and not besmirched further by the continuing presence of these criminals. If these criminals are shielded and kept secret, who knows what further evil acts they would do? Then the honor of our troops would be shamed by not one criminal act, but 2 or 3 or 4 or....

No, I blame the idiot libs like yourself who continue to spew their liberal anti-american hate speech, which I am quite sure our soldiers appreciate...Occupation? LOL
You're so funny...You make me laugh..Did Al Franken feed you that line or Colmes?
You act like you are a representative of the miliatry and speaking for them...The majority don't think the way your tiny little brain does...They want to serve our country and get Iraq on its feet, to become less dependent and more independent so they can come home...
I don't blame anybody, except YOU for being anti-American, loser...
