Oh boy. Another dictator in our midst. Some fat, arrogant windbag who can't handle power. Don't we have enough dictators in the world? What are those Venezuelan idiots thinking?

What makes any of his actions any different that what Bush is attempting to do here in the US?

avatar
Reply

President Bush can only look at Mr. Chavez with envy.

avatar

What a stupid statement. You're watching a dictator pull a country into the abyss of communism and comparing him to Bush. Your hate for our president is clouding what little common sense you might possess.

avatar
Reply

Of course. Pulling the US into the abyss of fascism is much better.

Natureboy...Bush will be gone in a couple of years. Chavez is setting himself up as dictator for life. He's passed laws that make it illegal to criticize him and his followers and he's completely changing his countries' constitution. But look, you and your ilk can use every post to bash Bush if you want. Chavez demonizes Bush every day to foreward his agenda, so why can't you.

OLDGRINGO

Mr.Chavez has passed laws that make it illegal to criticize him, but when people criticize President Bush you call it bashing. So by your logic it's wrong to pass laws against criticizing a public figure, but it is also wrong to exercise the right to criticize Mr. Bush.

I personally do not like bush. I shave.

I used to belong to a club, "Bachelors for Bush".

avatar

I don't think bachelors shave do they?

I've never seen a male yet shave down there.

They're too afraid of getting something sharp near them?

avatar

Uncle Dave: Twisted logic.

Go back to your bachelor club and find a nice guy and settle down.

Just what we need, another (#$#$) communist dictator for life. If anyone cannot see the handwriting on the wall here, you're still using crayons for your writing instruments. You don't have to look at Chavez very long to realize that if he isn't the devil he's one of his demons. Castro? Chavez? Both make you want to hurl or puke!

Perhaps living in Mexico for 15 years has distorted your sense of what true democracy is. If President Bush had not been obssessed with his war plans for Iraq he may have noticed what was going on in South America. I don't hate President Bush, as you have stated, but I do not like his imperialistc nature. The voters voiced their displeasure with Mr. Bush and the republuican party by voting in the democrats in the house and the senate. Now maybe congress will do what they are suppose to do and act as a check on the executive branch and not merely a rubber stamp.

Uncle Dave...If I need explain to you the difference between a government passing laws against criticizing officials and our actual right to criticize them then it is you who doesn't understand the workings of a democracy. Your attempt at logic is somewhat twisted, but we both agree that it is a great thing that we can, as Americans, vote out those that we disagree with. What amazes me is that many who post on Netscape would rather bash Bush then discuss the actual story. Searunners' attempt to compare Bush to Chavez is stupid. Bush ,correctly or not, is trying to interpret the constitution to fit his agenda. Chavez is dismantling his to give him absolute power.

OLDGRINGO

You don't need to explain the differnce between the power grab by a dictator and criticizing the President, or Bush bashing as you so eloquently put it. I read the story and I understand it as does Searunner.

It is a matter of tolerance, dictators in Central and South America are common place, and the dismantling of constituitions happens on a regular basis. Here in this country we have always had peaceful transitions of government, not always true in other countries. That is why the "liberties", this administration has taken with the constitution are so abhorant to the electorate. These same actions taken in some other countries would have gone unnoticed, that is not twisted logic but merely a comparison in the political tolerance exhibited by different cultures.

Can anyone say Cuba?

I don't recall the Cubans who died there as saying is was a very peaceful transition. They been trying to escape to America in boats and rafts ever since. They love Castro? They will love Chavez too?

What a stupid statement. You're watching a dictator pull a country into the abyss of communism and comparing him to Bush>>>

Actually, his comment is correct, and if you educated yourself, or at least stopped playing games long enough to LOOK at what bush has done, you'd know that. By the way, that 'positive' vote I gave you was a big mistake.

What makes any of his actions any different that what Bush is attempting to do here in the US?>>>>>

I had the same thought.

No, he has not been made "dictator for life." Unless he lives 18 months or less. There is a time limit imposed on his extended authority.

avatar

Anyone who wants to be a dictator of anything should automatically have their sanity questioned. That includes all presidential candidates here, by the way. I have trouble controlling my own life, I certainly don't want to be bothered with trying to control the lives of a whole bunch of other people.

well put, Amazing.......I refer to ANY office akin to holding a wolf by the ears.its hard to do and who the hell wants to release their grip?

ditto Amazing! it's the ultimate sign of insanity in my book.

Shhh...be very quite or Hillary will neuter you? She wants the office....badly.

The only thing that makes Chavez anything but a joke is his ability to control some oil. As long as he is using that oil to do something for the people in his country we should just let him spout off and ignore the rest. If at some point he becomes dangerous to the Caribean area there is plenty of ways to deal with him. All we've done so far is make him seem more important than he is.

avatar

I think if you read into the article, it makes some good points (like slapping the rich with more taxes, and in turn, spreading the wealth). His tactics with oil will be enough to keep the rest of the world watching, and hopefully we won't be stupid enough to allow him to go as far as Saddam went in his lifetime.

If you want to voice your displeasure at Commandante Chavez, and want to pull a few pieces of wood out of his bonfire, just DON"T BUY ANY CITGO GAS OR OTHER CITGO PRODUCT!

Recently, Seven-Eleven stores/stations stopped buying CITGO gas, and we could all do the same......

Citgo is TOTALLY OWNED by the Venezuelan government.

All of our efforts to stop him so far have done nothing but help him. Maybe we should just for once mind our own business.

Maybe we haven't learned our lesson of not getting our noses in other countries business! The US and CIA have the inverted Midas touch, whatever we touch we screw up! Cuba, Chile, Iran, Iraq, Nicaragua,,etc...)

BZZT! Wrong answer. Chavez did not give himself the powers in question, the Venezuelan legislature did. And not for life, but for a limited 18 month time period.

And why can't I bash Bush? Why not? He has demonstrated ad nauseum that he is a witless buffon who could LITERALLY not have found his way to the White House under his own power. I doubt he could find Washington, DC on a map.

I disagree with Chavez in this regard- Chavez implied that Bush is the Devil. I say the Devil has ruled successfully ruled Hell for ages, Bush has screwed the US up utterly in less than six years. It is the Devil who is defamed by the comparison.

avatar

Natureboy: Have you ever been able to make a comment or enter into a discussion without talking about Bush? And yes, you are not allowed to bash Bush, subject to arrest and imprisonment. In fact since you have bashed him, they're coming out today to get you. You talk a lot like that arrogant and rude dictator, Chavez. So Bush is an idiot, let's move on. And we all know (except you) that Chavez pressed, pushed the Ven. leg. to legitimize his dictatorship for life. By the way, I have always liked bush.

Many a good post here. Bush desiring Chavez's power, excellent comparison. One problem though, He has that power now with our current representatives in office.

Well if chavez would flood the USA market with cheap oil, we would all love him.PR is what he dont understand.

If you're buying gas at CITCO and 7-11 you're already lining his pockets.

Omg, take the freakin blinders off. Comparing Bush to Chavez is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. Chavez is following right in Fidels footsteps. He is throwing a few bread crumbs to his nations poor so they will follow him and grant him full power. The sad part is that he holds a pretty solid hand when it comes to our nations oil supply.

Ah screw it...maybe we will all be happier when we are breaking up our nations highways with hammers so we don't have to climb them to walk to our next job.

I can't take the level of stupidity here, lets for one minute stop hating Bush, just for a secon. We are watching the birth of a communistic totalitarian society, in this country your allowed to say I hate Bush, over there you would be sent to jail. The NY Times would not exist they would be prisoned for crimes against the state. This is the begining, soon land ownership, business ownership, any personaly held items will become property of the state, the State of Chavez. Think of the people of this country who are no longer free.

Chavez is just another tinhorn banana republic dictator. If he didn't have the oil and our technology and our $$$ coming in, nobody would care about him or his rude arrogance. Without oil and his dictatorship he would likely be a drug lord.

"By the way, I have always liked bush."

Imagine my surprise.

I note that bush is not capitalized; are you discussing our president or your affinity for pubic thatch?

Bush does have a cute smile...I'd bet his wife keeps

him on a short leash though.
