Five years ago people were furious as gas prices crept up closer to the $2-per-gallon range. Now that gasoline prices have dipped below $2 a gallon for the first time in quite a while, people are filling their gas tanks to the brim.

It's high here in WA state, as well. Haven't seen it below $2.00 for regular in a very long time. I pay more than 2.60 for my car.

I'm on Kauai, Hawaii and its $2.99 here. Well it beats the $3.89 Gal. a while back. Anyway, I would like to know why gas is so expensive when the oil companies are making a billion dollars profit? Only one answer, Bush the thief in the white house caused it along with all those involved with the oil industry. They all should be investigated and tried for by the ameriacan people for hurting our country and causing innocent families to become homeless.

$2.30 here in PA, but then again we have the 4th highest state highway tax (gas tax) in the country. NJ is 16 cents cheaper and there is no self serve by state law. We could effectively see a 20 - 40 cent per gallon decrease if we could do away with the 30 "boutique blends" out there and mass produce one clean burning blend. The refiners cut overhead, availability increases thereby lowering prices.

Of course, that's why our gas is so high here in WA state. I'd forgotten about the tax. We have a 34 cent state gas tax. But then, we don't pay income tax here, so I guess it's a wash.

The article is about people loosening up. Now is the time to tighten up, keep using the same tactics which brought the prices down --or we will see them shoot back up again.

The only time you can kick an 800 pound gorilla is when he's down.

We have seen this before. The tactics that bring the price down are the same tactics that bring them back up. But oil is not a renewable resource, the rules are different this time. Low prices bring higher prices and gas lines. Proper planning for the future also brings higher prices, but no lines.

We can enjoy the cheap gas and let the next generation pay the price. But it will likely be our generation that pays the price. The good ol days of cheap gas will soon be behind us.

People talk about how long it has been since it was this low. Seems to me it was like this about the time of elections a few months ago. Wonder why?

Amazing what a couple of years will do to our views on gas gouging. I still say all we have to do is boycott Exxon-Mobil products and you will see gas prices go down by half.

The price of diesel hasn't dropped the same way - why not? Anyone know?

Not only it hasn't dropped, but it suffered a rise (at least where I live). I'd really like to know why too...

We're down to $2.13 in SW PA. I never thought I would be this excited about this gas price. I remember the days when it was under $1. Sigh.
