Jan. 17, 2007, 3:42 p.m.The Russians will increasingly be on high alert when you factor in their ongoing policies.
My advise to them is to continue in aiding and abetting Iran in the acquisition of nuclear bombs and the continued faulty Islamic extremist threat analysis. Thankfully Iran is on Russia's southern border and not the U.S.'s.
But money is money, so continue your perverse trade with Iran, it will come back to bite you, and you know where.

Jan. 17, 2007, 4:02 p.m.Russian governement does that. So does the governement of the US, and people pay for it.

Jan. 17, 2007, 5:06 p.m.It is a delicious irony that Russia (i.e. KGB Putin) who is actually more threatened by Iran and radical Islamic forces can't get out of their cold war mindset of going after the US instead of allying with us. In a sense, this is proof that appeasement does not work with Islamic forces. Russia is attacked despite their support of Iran and there working against the US in the US. It buys them nothing. This is a lesson that Democrats in the US need to learn well. I'm not for Bush because he's fighting incompetently, but Liberal idealistic utopianism probably is faulty to its roots when dealing with Islamic states and forces.

Jan. 17, 2007, 5:41 p.m.Who created, nurtured, funded and trained the extremists who became al Qaeda? Answer: Reagan/Bush41. It's a documented fact. ObL recruited terrorist expats. They were issued fast track visas in Jedda and trained on US soil, then shipped to Afghanistan. Who supplied them with Stinger missiles? Answer, Bush41.
Russia has been engaged in false flag terrorism to prop the Putin regime.
We never had a criminal investigation of 9/11. Our "gov't" doesn't want legal investigations: it wants you to believe what they tell you.

Jan. 17, 2007, 3:49 p.m.This is living proof that NO ONE is exempt from this threat. I believe Russia thinks they are (or at least have been). Maybe this will be the wake-up call they've sorely needed. The rest of the world should take note of this.

Jan. 17, 2007, 3:58 p.m.How can you say,"I believe Russia thinks they are." Do you easily forget the massive amount of attacks on Russian soil, whether in movie theaters, schools, or subways by Chechen forces? I have lived in Russia, and trust me they do not think they are invisible to terrorist attacks. They worry about them constantly, they live in fear, and have lived that way for 100 years. The only wake up call they need is to their government, constitution, and economy. They don't need this as well.

Jan. 17, 2007, 5:09 p.m.Russian has had these attacks for years. It makes it even more puzzling that they don't join with the US rather than keep trying to do business with Islamic states against us as in the Cold War era. Old habits are hard to break I guess, but it is clearly in Russia's self-interest to support the US in the Middle East rather than work against us. I think Putin can't stop being a Cold War KGB hardliner at heart so he can't shift perspectives.

Jan. 17, 2007, 4:14 p.m.GVANHELSING By the way Iraq did not attack America. No matter how hawkish your views are you cannot explain the rational in the War against Iraq, nor the explainable consequences of that act. Hope I'm not talking to an uniformed conservative hawk with an eye on death and destruction!

Jan. 17, 2007, 4:49 p.m.If that's the case, then maybe the Russian government should relinquish control over Chechnya and allow them to become independent which is the reason for these so-called terrorist actions.

Jan. 17, 2007, 11:59 p.m.That's the "terrorist as freedom fighter" school of thought. Requires a reasoned response. May involve negotiation and settlement.

Jan. 17, 2007, 4:54 p.m.I do not think Russia should abandon Chechnya, but damn,
get your act together, the Islamic extremist will have your head on a platter along with your country if Putin continues for MONEY to assist Iran in any way. My country America also had made numerous diplomatic blunders, so I'm not biased, but Iran is on your southern border. What fool would want this Islamic Theocracy to succeed in acquiring a nuclear bomb?

Jan. 17, 2007, 4:58 p.m.This has nothing to do with Iran. Chechnya wants its independence just like all the others which were part of the Soviet Union.

Jan. 17, 2007, 5:11 p.m....but it will. Wait 15 years and Iran will be supporting Chechnya and they will use reverse engineered Russian technology to do it.

Jan. 17, 2007, 5:13 p.m.slowly but surely the russian federation of states are building back to a concerning level of global power
having friends who have russian partners i hear all sorts of situations along with watching Russia Today live via sattelite
the country has great passion to be a major super power once again , but this time more controlled
having vast reserves of oil and almost all base metals along with more nukes than the USA , Russia will be back to kick some serious business
russia have a joint policy on terrorist and have committed resources into tracking down the nutters and terminating them
their policy is good and if the terroists wish to ****** off the russians they might be signing their own end as russia will track them down and exterminate them globally

Jan. 17, 2007, 5:23 p.m.Its quite amusing to read some of these posts. Of course, I don't read each entire post, but the U.S. supported the independence of Afghanistan from the USSR by supplying weapons to the muslim rebels, and also supported the muslims in Yugoslavia. In all respects, the events in Chechnya parallel those in Afghanistan and Yugoslavia.

Jan. 17, 2007, 5:32 p.m.Until the rest of the world finally realizes that something must be done with terrorism the situation will not get any better. The United States cannot be the only one who sees that terrrorism cannot be stopped by negotiating. They are determined to bring down every government in the world that doesn't beleive as they do.

Jan. 17, 2007, 5:37 p.m.I might add saneman that America supported Osama in Afghaniston against the Soviets. Same conclusion, Osama came back and bit us in the you know where. My conclusion is that our governments screw up more than they benefit our societies. Analysis - throw all the incumbent bums out.
Well that was generalizing, in America if we have a knowledgeable electorate we can get rid of the bums, but, in Russia you have Putin. I don't think he will go quietly.
