Jan. 3, 2007, 8:17 p.m.Time,
What Geneva Convention? Most if not all are not uniformed combatants. They are trained to some form of military standard but dress as civilians. The Convention clearly defines these as spies. There is no quarter given for spies, no protection, no rules of war.In the past they were questioned, threatened and executed in short order. Most of the guys in Gitmo are evil guys. They offer nothing to the human race; they're a danger to everyone. I'm military so I'm not what they want.I can fight back. They're cowards looking for soft targets.Schools, shopping malls, office towers, subways and the like.Anywhere that has poor security and lots of potential targets. If you won't execute them, keep them locked away forever. And don't continue to feed them their special diets. They would never provide special meals for our people when captured. Oh, I forgot they don't take prisoners; they cut their heads off. There is no way to rehabilitate them and execution is a very viable option.

Jan. 3, 2007, 12:55 p.m.Its just another example of how the Bush administration is keeping America safe from terrorism by fighting a war against an unknown enemy. Bush doesn`t want to name the enemy because he is it.

Jan. 3, 2007, 6:37 p.m.((Bush doesn`t want to name the enemy because he is it.)
Nah, Bush doesn't want to name an enemy, delineate clear goals etc. because clear objectives and enemies equals the kind of clarity that brings accountabilty. This way the true agenda, whatever that might be, remains hidden, and the given agenda remains nice and vague.
Are we winning the war? Losing? is it even a war? Did we already win? How many are we fighting against? What are our objectives? What criteria must be reached to start bringing troops back home?
You get the idea...

Jan. 3, 2007, 2:02 p.m.If you botherd to read this article it said several times that there is nothing new in it, that all the "abuse" reports were investigated.
To compare Bush,Cheney and Rumsfeld to Saddam is moronic. Iraq has never signed off on the Geneva convention. It has never been proven that the methods used at GITMO are in violation of the Geneva Convention. I would also note the writers use of the word abusive treatment..when all other reports are using the phrase "harsh treatment" biased if you ask me.

AmpLee
Jan. 3, 2007, 6:40 p.m.yeah man, that's the thing. A lot of folks think the Geneva convention is some kind of 'world' law, and all countries are subject to it, but the the way I understand it it is an agreement between certain nations, and not every nation is a part of the agreement. I think this is right, and I think a lot of those crying 'Geneva!' don't understand this.

Jan. 3, 2007, 11:08 p.m.>>Yeah.. Bush probably just picked those guys up off the street because he has a quota to fill..
Hate to tell you this, but your attempt at sarcasm isn't too far from the truth. Don't you remember after 9/11, Muslim immigrants were requested to report to local gov't offices for confirming their status, etc. Many of them mysteriously disappeared with their families not knowing what happened.
Also, their were the deportations of INNOCENT non-US citizens to countries other than their home countries, to places like Syria where they were tortured. Example: Maher Arar (http://www.maherarar.ca/)
Google for more links on this 1 case:

Jan. 6, 2007, 12:18 p.m.Let me see, how many prisoners in any past war who were interned were charged and convicted of anything? I know! Zero! The trials take place after the war and the victors conduct the trials, eg. Nuremberg, etc. Do you see how it works, Walden? The only time there is a trial in the detention camps was to give the guards fun times before the execution.

Jan. 3, 2007, 3:38 p.m.I think your comments are very funny froggy57. I agree with you and just don't understand how people that live in this great country can't understand that we are at war! I really don't care what they do with the detainees, I care about the kids we have over there from OUR country. Korans for everyone, and by all means stop saying bad words like Christmas and just use the world Holiday so as not to offend anyone. Do you realize separation of church and state is a communist idea and the term PC also comes from communism?

Jan. 3, 2007, 5:46 p.m.Separation of church and state is a good idea.
It prevents religious wars.
OTOH Muslim doctrine unites church and state. So maybe it is a good idea after all. LOL

Jan. 3, 2007, 2:41 p.m.They are not "so called enemy combatants" they are enemy combatants, or at least are being investigated as such..and if they were more co-operative the ones that were not involved would be set free sooner..but they refuse to co-operate

Jan. 3, 2007, 7:14 p.m.I think we should treat them very well. Give them nothing to watch but movies like Bambi, Lassie, and Over the Hedge. 24 hours a day. Brainwash them into being softies until they break down and tell us everything they know. Have the soundtracks translated into their language. Respect their holy book, dietary restrictions and let them write letters to their loved ones. (We don't have to mail them.)
Treat me mean and you will get nothing from me. But you've heard of the phrase "Kill them with Kindness." I think it would be far more productive as far as getting information and would keep us totally clear of abuse charges.

Jan. 3, 2007, 8:27 p.m.If you were fighting a traditional enemy, that might work but we're not. They're belief is simple. They either kill us or they won't get into their paradise. They've taken a very twisted religion and twisted further. Locking them away forever is one of two options, execution being the other. They're very violent prisoners. Regardless of what the FBI claims of abuse, the prisoners should never be permitted in the general population. Part of their training is similar to our POW training. While the military should train soldiers for that, these animals are not soldiers. At best they're spies at worst terrorists. Either case, it deserves the death penalty. They're trained to go after civilians, as both shields and targets. I'm amazed that we haven't seen more attempts on schools, shopping malls or colleges. I suppose we would have to thank the FBI & Homeland for that.

Jan. 4, 2007, 1:09 a.m.I'm appalled how certain institutions in our country make an issue about how the detainees are being treated. The question we should ask ourselves is what is more important, their welfare or our countrymen---the americans. As far as I'm concerned, I will within humane conditions extract whatever information I can get from these detainees. Let us remember our goal is to keep this country safe by all means. We are not killing these detainees to extract important information from them. Let us also remember what they do to our countrymen they capture---they behead them after they have tortured them.
