Dec. 27, 2006, 2:39 p.m.James Brown was a drug abusing wife beater whose estate is now screwing over his latest unlawful partner. He produced nothing but CRAP for what you call music. He is being eulogized by Al Sharpton, the most RACIST BASTARD in the world. Snoop Dog, a constant drug abuser who denegrates women looked up to Brown. What a legacy!!

Dec. 27, 2006, 4:19 p.m.Thank you, HS57, for having the courage to tell what's mostly the truth, although I do disagree with you about his music. There's no question his work had a tremendous influence on several different genres of music.

Dec. 27, 2006, 9:37 p.m.HS57 'Let him who is without sin cast the first stone' is probably what a christian person would say, whereas someone like me would probably just say 'you sound a bit of a moron'.
James Brown was a fantastic artist who brought a lot of joy into this world by way of his act and music, whatever he got up to in his private life is no concern of mine. Fortunately I'm not that much of a creep as to believe or even read the stuff that might appeal to some of the less fortunate amonst us with a limited intellect.

Dec. 27, 2006, 3:35 p.m.HS57,
There is no question that James Brown had problems in his life. However, those problems do not take away from the fact that many people loved his music. It should perhaps also be noted that during the late 60's and early 70's he worked to instill a sense of self-worth in a generation of young people of color.

Dec. 27, 2006, 4:13 p.m.So HS57 - what's your legacy ?? I see that you are quite occupied with James Brown's life. You must be a closet fan just wanting to be ignorant. Hey, you succeeded ... job well done !! So how do you feel about President Gerald Ford ??

Dec. 27, 2006, 4:34 p.m.My legacy is I am not perfect but can honestly say I have never used drugs, beat a woman, had a need to carry a gun, or have any reason to run from the police! What is sad is people looked up to this criminal. I have NEVER been a fan of this puke! Ford on the other hand unified this country by making an unpopular decision that cost him the presidency. By pardoning Nixon he saved this country from all of the infighting that would have happened. He chose to move the country forward and paid the price for it. A TRUE american!

Dec. 27, 2006, 6:50 p.m.James Brown was undoubtedly morally challenged but he lived his life and made many people shake their booty with glee. I'm not condoning anything Brown did in his life, but if I was abandoned at 4 yrs old, lived in a brothel and in a juvenile home, I'd be a little crazy too. One thing I do admire about James Brown is that he probably didn't have one minute to spend online judging the lives of others and he lived his life to the fullest making real music and not the crap called music we are bombared with today. Move on haters, It's a New Day!

Dec. 27, 2006, 7:52 p.m.James Brown did more for racial harmony through his music than anyone gives him credit for, or even thinks about.
Sorely missed but not forgotten.

Jan. 2, 2007, 4:16 p.m.Actually, artists such as Lenny Kravitz hold much more praise for racial harmony
And why didnt Luthor Vandross gets this iconic status?
he ALWAYS promoted racial harmony.

Dec. 27, 2006, 9:20 p.m.I agree with HS57. I don't know why people think these punks are so good for the world. They had or have such talents and could do good but their behavior is ourtrageous. Snoop, Brown, and most of the rappers are just hoodlums. period !!!!!

Jan. 2, 2007, 4:11 p.m.If you were here dude, I'd buy you a drink!!
couldnt have said it better.
I remember tipper Gore ranting about rock music, and why was there no real outcry from fans? because race wasnt an issue. Now if the same rants were about gangsta rap etc, the answer would be "we have a right to sing (opps sorry, rap) about "da hood". We have been persecuted blah blah.
If Eirc Clapton died tomorrow, I would love to see what type of response it would get. Of course Al Sharpton (the biggest racist biggot on the planet) would have nothing to say.....mind you, thats a good thing.

Dec. 27, 2006, 9:28 p.m.I remember James Brown. He was very inspirational and I loved his music. I remember seeing him on Television where we all gathered around and watched him sing, "I feel Good." He was young and moved so smooth and fast. Now, I saw him about a month ago and he was still fast and had those moves. James Brown was a big icon in my family and we all wanted to be like him. Growing up the way he did makes one wonder, how coming from a unstable home and being raised by foster parents could yield someone so talented and responsible for many other musician as well as changed the course of the world with his music. I have said, you can't blame your child hood for your short comings. It's up to each indiviual to grab a hold to life and make it what he or she wants. Some have commited crimes and blame their child hood for their mistakes, but coming from difficult situations and raise in a home, I know that hard work can hide a lot of misfortune and propel one beyond measures.

"Let him without sin cast the first stone"
sin is sin and we all fall short.
I think you just want to be notice. We all know what James Brown did, but most of us are still living and fully aware that life brings on changes. Who knows what you will do tomorrow? I think you have some growing to do.

Jan. 2, 2007, 4:06 p.m.you beat women, use drugs, you should be in prison, period!!
All you people blabbing on about morals etc, are so pathetic.
I am athiest, yet I have done more charity work than most "christians" i know. I have my own morals, yet they dont involve wife beating and drug abuse.
People idolize James Brown, why? he was a singer, so why does a singer get idolized more than say, Mother Theresa? Now as I said, Im athiest, yet she did a mountain of charitable work.
The James Brown legacy??? its a farce!
"Elvis Presley was kind" WHat is it about celebrities in this country being more important than an ordinary Joe?
From a "Christian" view, I sin all the time, hell, I live in Alabama, and its totally insane how religion has twisted this planet.
Regarding James Brown, gimme a break! the guy is no legend.
