'Liberated' Rush Limbaugh flays GOP for lame campaign

News – Radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh says Republicans are to blame for their own demise at the polls by failing to run a campaign trumpeting conservative values. "I feel liberated," Limbaugh said. "I no longer am gonna have to carry the water for people who I think don't deserve having their water carried.

It's about time someone said it! Republicans could have won easily if they just stood up for their conservative values and secured the border! Sheesh.

I hadn't thought about it much, but you may be right. W is cerainly not conservative. I'm not sure he knows what he is. Going back further, John Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson were classic liberals, at least domestically.

But it seems to me that this Administration is the most agressively anti-intellectual I can remember for a while. All hard info is discarded in favor of anecdotal stuff if it suits the purpose. Spiro Agnew (Nixon's first VP) sounded very anti-intellectual, but I'm not sure whether it was de facto policy or just him spouting off.

Mulling even further, the Republicans haven't had a President of intellectual distinction since Herbert Hoover. (some people might say Dwight Eisenhower, but I count him as more of an Army bureaucrat. Plus he could have just as easily been a Democrat.)

Your was a nice, thought provoking comment.

I'd have to reply that there are conservative values out there, but that are not particularly prominent in the current Republican Party. Among other arguments, I'd shudder to think that the hellacious deficit we're running constitutes fiscal conservatism. Also, there were several cases (you probably know them better than I) in which "I'm responsible" produced consequences of exactly--nothing. This may not be exactly "touchy-feely" management, but it is hardly the kind that "Conservatives" claim to be enamored of.

The Dems got a one-time free pass on one of the relatively few times GWB's employers got to assess his performance. What they do with it, how "flaky" Nancy Pelosi may be, is yet to be seen. Personally, I hope for a little benign neglect of activism. The bosses are on a 2-year evaluation cycle.

David -- Just scanning through posts. I have to disagree with something you wrote below. You seem to be amazed that someone hates war. What's to like about it? Wars may sometimes be necessary, but they're always evil--sometimes just the least evil of choices. There is a certain rush to be had by good execution of a military campagn--a la video game. But I think Robert E. Lee had the right perspective: "It is well that war is so terrible. We would grow too fond of it."

Can't say that I've known many military, though I've known some. But I also can't say that I've ever heard one express a preference for war over peace.

"It's silly to blame the media..."

I wouldn't let them off the hook. I blame Republican leaders for not sticking to conservative values and not being vociferous enough, but even more so I blame the media for an overwhelmingly liberal bias this election. The way this election was covered, I find it hard to envision conservatives ever gaining power again, unless tragedy strikes.

I hope I'm wrong, but the media is a relentless liberal force that can only be overcome by educating the public. Unfortunately, most Americans are too lazy to question their news sources and are too uninformed on critical issues. I think it will take another disaster to get Americans to vote Republican again.

"I disagree. Conservatives are the only one with plans. What was the plan behind the Democratic party? Anti-Bush and Anti-War."

Anti-Bush seemed to work just fine yesterday... but in the immediate future, barring an attack, I feel that the liberal media is such a powerful force that it is almost impossible to inform Americans with positive Republican news stoies.

We have the radio and one television network versus every other network, public television, public radio, almost every major urban newspaper, magazine, every european news source, paid liberal bloggers, etc. Unless you make the effort to find an alternative source, you will be smothered in liberal propaganda. The only hope we as conservatives have is that the issues are on our side. Conservative values are American values. We need a better strategy of spreading the conservative message.

"I wonder how long it will be before the American Republic will fall..."

Well I'm not ready to go that far yet. I know I am one of many who will keep up the good fight....

I listened to Rush earlier. He went on to say something I found interesting.... He predicted that now that dems have a stake in the leadership, we will start hearing better reports from the media regarding the war on terror, in Iraq, and the economy. This just might be the case. If it does happen, it will expose once again the hypocrisy in the media, but more importantly, it may actually lead to a unified fight against terrorism (for a change).

For over five years now, Republicans have been fighting the war on terror alone, while at the same time fighting the libs who were committed to thwart any Republican success. Now that Dems can no longer strictly play the blame Bush game, maybe they will get on board and fight for Americans instead of Democratic party aspirations. I hope so.

Well if nothing else, the media might unintentionally expose the far left's true colors to uninformed Americans. Exposing the far left as being the passive, appeasement-at-all-cost, completely out of touch with reality, wishful thinkers that they really are. If Democrats suppress the far left, we all win.

"Possibly... but it was not the case during Clinton Administration."

True, but terrorism will remain a concern for the public, more so than it did during Clinton's administration. I think it is more a reality for Americans now since then. But yesterday's results may prove me to be the wishful thinker.....

G W BUSH is not a Republican.

There is not any evidence of a Biblical 'living God' in his walk on earth. Just a lot of religion with empty words.

The works of God, can not be accomplished by politics and tax dollars.

To do the works of God, first and foremost requires to know the power that leaves an empty tomb.

That is the hallmark of a people of Biblical faith.

There is no small government major party anymore, the Democrats and Republicans are both big government they just differ on how to grow government. That is why i can no longer support either, they are both heading to socialism by buying votes, just one will get there faster than the other.

Socialism a la Lyndon Joyhnson style sounds good to me. You Bush Conservatives are socialists, too, in spite of all your talk...because you support socialism for the very rich.

What is Rush on... never mind.

Sorry, but Liberals are some of my greatest, most lucid heroes of all time. Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Paine, and all those guys who fought conservative tyranny. Their Liberal words and deeds are what made America great.

I'm proud to be able to stand on the shoulders of such Liberal giants!
