Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki on Saturday referred to the boundary between himself and the United States, telling U.S. President Bush that he answers first to the Iraqi government and people, according to an Iraqi official.

Isn't this what we really want? The Prime Minister is taking over his country and telling his people that he answers to them--a democratically elected leader asserting national sovereignty. How can he be an ally until he has the country being himself?
