Oct. 24, 2006, 12:54 p.m.Hi David, If you read further in the article, one of the British soldiers has already pleaded guilty to the charges of abuse, so it would seem that the title of the story has some basis in fact.

Oct. 23, 2006, 12:42 p.m.Ugh...if this story is true, it's appalling. And guess what, it's torture too.

Oct. 23, 2006, 12:50 p.m.The only "consolation" is it was a Brit this time, not one of ours!!
According to Bush, that's NOT touture, since he's still alive, and had no major organ failure, right?
Like ANYONE would give accurate info. to someone who treated them like that! I would hope my answer would be "Fu*k You!" right to my last breath!

Oct. 23, 2006, 12:47 p.m.I was appalled up until this quote:
"the doctor said he would bring oxygen but instead sprayed fly killer in his face and started laughing."
I can't help but feel he's embellishing at that point.

Oct. 23, 2006, 12:58 p.m.mozz -- Sure, people who beat prisoners to death would NEVER use fly spray!
OOPs! --I forgot, that was OUR CIA contractors, NOT the Brits--sorry, Queeny!

Oct. 24, 2006, 8:34 a.m.Err, The Daily Telegraph is a right wing conservative paper in the UK, always has been. Also, it is highly reputable and very unlikely to make up propaganda particularly against the nation's armed forces.

Oct. 24, 2006, 12:49 p.m.DocJ:
I couldn't agree more. Maybe the British press might grow some "you know what" and take the tapes of torture and air in on British television? I doubt it.
or better yet, send it to CNN, they'll air anything, right?
It just kills me how they splash all this b*llsh*t all over the press, and trust me, I'm not saying it's all false but let's be honest and at least give the other side of the story. Show the beheadings, give the details of what they do when they capture one of our boys!
But then again that wishfull thinking when you're talking about the media monsters of today. Keep stoking the fire guys.

Oct. 23, 2006, 2:38 p.m.Yes, but perhaps I was unclear.
When reading the article, the iraqi describes indignity after indignity, but "fly spray" part seems perfunctory, almost tacked on. I don't know, it just doesnt seem to fit in with the rest of his claims. I'm speaking from personal opinion, limited to the scope of the article.

Oct. 23, 2006, 2:56 p.m.yes.
i have heard of Josef Mengele...I am not trying to justify this behavior; I was hoping beyond hope that we had moved past that kind of medical barbarity.
And I continue to agree with mozzer; I find it difficult to believe that a modern medical doctor, summoned by British troops, would spray fly spray into the open mouth of an asthmatic.

Oct. 23, 2006, 3:33 p.m.Angermanagement.
Why dont's you get some anger management???
Are you saying that because some lunatic terrorist beheaded a British citizen for no reason, it gives the right to any Birtish soldier to torture a 17 years old boy who happened to be at the wrong place????
Let's go to Ireland and torture the first 17 year old Irish that we find in a 100m radious of an IRA weapons cache.
BTW: I believe in fair trial: get the guy to court:
- if found guilty of killing civilians, then hang the bastard,
- if not apologize and send him back home!
And stop acting like Hafez el Assad (may his soul burn in hell for all eternity).
Once he lost his watch, and told his head of Mokhabarat (secret services) about this. 48 hours later he finds his watch again in the bathroom.
He says to the head of Moukhabarat that there is no need to find any "criminal" his watch was not stolen.
The head of Moukhabarat answers: but we already have 3 people's confessions!!!

Oct. 23, 2006, 3:51 p.m.I drank my own urine by mistake once...
If not for the anonimity of the internet I'd probably never admit it, but its true. Spring 1987. I was driving from Boston to CO to go skiing with three friends in an old beat up van. All of us had pee bottles so we didn't have to stop every ten minutes. I was using an empty water bottle - the exact same kind of bottle my water was in. It was about two in the morning. I had just woken up in the back of the van, all crumpled and crusty mouthed. I took what I thought was my water bottle from my pack...

Oct. 23, 2006, 5:09 p.m.I find it hard to believe the story of this Iraqi as it's told. It does seem to be embellished beyond what might have happened. There is a clear desire among certain individuals to grandstand events, in order to incite riots.
Since one Brit soldier admitted to inhumane treatment to detainees, there may be some truth to the charge. But bear in mind that the "suspected insurgent" could be guilty of more heinous crimes, so he might have a vested interest in making the Brits look truly bad. Not to excuse torture, but the treatment needs to be found out in court as to the severity of it. The 6 others accused deny guilt to the charges.
Isn't it amazing that no outrage is made over the Iraqis killing Iraqis? It evidently is justified in some minds. -Rev. S

Oct. 24, 2006, 1:05 p.m.I bet you don't believe the holocaust either, or the fact that Hitler killed even more Russians (7 million) than Jews. What outrage should anyone show? It was predicted by major political scientists that Iraq would erupt into a massive civil war if the US went in there, and that's what has happened. The country is a disaster. SH, as horrid as he was, was holding it together by a thread. The Iraqis are poor and uneducated. What did anyone expect? And staying or leaving, both would be a disaster, but I bet we stay for the vast untapped oil reserves the politician can divert to their cronies.

Oct. 23, 2006, 7:03 p.m.Another reason to stick (no pun) to "real" (scientifically proven)medicine!
Many of the OTC and internet-purchased "magic cure" capsules have been found to be full of floor sweepings, rat feces, etc. Buyer beware!

Oct. 23, 2006, 6 p.m.I was the unfortunate recipient of a big, tasty swig of my friend's tobacco spit from a beer bottle at a pool hall. Its rancid taste was only surpassed by its chunky sliminess.
As churning an experience as that was, I can't imagine having to endure what this kid went through. I understand the concept that a serviceman stationed overseas, dealing with daily wartime stress can be pushed into a fearful, angry place that would give one horrific inclinations. Nevertheless, this man's actions are inexcusable.
...just my $0.02.
