Oct. 14, 2006, 5:57 p.m.bush is stuck. conventional war this isn't. the guys with the guns hide and rule with fear in the populace. if they had popular support they would get the vote and they would have no need for guns or terror. bush isn't to blame, the rules have changed and for all the best intentions and will, some new thinking has to happen.

Oct. 14, 2006, 6:08 p.m.This war was horribly wrong from the beginning and had nothing to do with terrorism until we invaded and made a mess. Bush is an idiot and his recent saber rattling at Iran and N. Korea is both infantile and extremely dangerous. We need to make the world safe from mad cowboy disease.

Oct. 14, 2006, 6:29 p.m.IMHO, The only reason that we went into Iraq was a statement Bush made on TV.....He (Sadam) tried to kill my Daddy. This a revenge war nothing else.

Oct. 14, 2006, 6:34 p.m.(1) Bush IS to blame for getting the US into this position. It was, and is, HIS war. He wanted it. He started it. He must take the principal heat for it.
(2) I've waited for someone to point out how often Bush & Co. have changed their story on what they've done. I don't want to hear any more about "Slick Willie"!
(3) Bush & Co. have sqaundered American standing, good will, and power, by their willful failure to consider the consequences of their actions. "Condi" Rice still refers to what they have unleashed in the world merely as "turbulence."
Rampant Islamic fundamentalism may not have originated with Bush. But he and his Vulcan cronies have exacerbated the problem, by feeding and taking advantage of domestic fundamentalism here. Rather than work with other nations, who poured out their sympathy for us after 9-11, they have divided the world into two camps: Our fundamentalists vs. their fundamentalists. We're in a sorry fix today.

Oct. 15, 2006, 11:38 a.m.Lets look back about a half a century ago, to the Korean War. I seem to remember that we had the N. Koreans beat down and we could of finished them easy, but what did we do? We pulled out. Only to let them fester and get worse. As every year went by they became stronger and stronger. Now look at them, they are extremly close to have Nuclear weapons.
Now lets move back to the Iraq war. Everyone knew Saddam had imperialistic visions, were we to wait and let them get stronger? No. Now that we have them beat down just like we had the N. Koreans, dare we pull out now? Dare we let them fester only to get worse? Dare we let them become just like the N. Koreans? I think not. Every tyrannt diserves to be put in their place, their grave.

Oct. 14, 2006, 6:33 p.m.The Dumbya dictatorship has recited every false justification and has abjectly refused to admit the one true reason for this war, preferring intead to ply the airwaves with b.s. for public consumption.
The Iraq War was a Kissinger plan going back to the Nixon administration. It was animated by the rightwing Project for a New American Century - a cabal of neocons that are hard-wired into the Dumbya dictatorship. This is why you see Kissinger meeting monthly with both Cheney and Dumbya for "consultations".
The objective of the Kissinger plan is world domination through the control of the Persian Gulf oil spigot. We already have Kuwait in the bag. After Iraq - the plan goes - the U.A.E. and Qatar and the Saudis will fall into place.
The Iraq war is now and always has been a blood for oil proposition. It never had anything to do with self-determination of autonomous democratic states; it was all about installing pliant client states and controlling the oil.

Oct. 14, 2006, 6:48 p.m.Yes, Twistoflex. And they have used evangelicals to do it. They have preached "democracy," "God and good," "family values," "homeland security," and "the will of God," but once they've had the evangelical vote, they have acted "corporate," to protect and further invest their own elitist wealth and power.
There are good, honest, sincere, hardworking Christians in this nation. They have been ripped off by Bush & Co, and been the victims of wedge-issue election campaigning concocted by Hitler-admiring Karl Rove, who with Bush and Cheney have succeeded in getting these people to vote against their own real interest, under the illusion and banner of being "values voters." The natural idealism of Americans has been perverted, and seriously damaged by this administration.
When Bush said away back in 2001, "If I were a dictator, my job would be easier," people should have been listening more closely.

Oct. 14, 2006, 6:55 p.m.Did I miss something? When did this become a war on Saddam? This has been a war against 'fundamentalist' Islam from day one. That is who attacked us. That is who has been attacking us for decades. It's not just about Saddam or bin Laden, it's about the middle east. Where this hatred backed Islam raises generation after generation to hate the West and Israel. Not hate like most of you know it, I'm talking about hate that wants to kill you and destroy your way of life. It's happening in Europe and Great Britain and it's coming SOON to a theatre near you.
We finally have a president that has the understanding of what lies ahead for this country if we don't stop the growth of terrorism and has the balls to do something about it. It makes me sick at my stomach when I hear the liberals undermining our efforts and a good administration.

Oct. 14, 2006, 7:15 p.m.You are wrong Noparty, They may have hated us before but nothing can compare with the Hatred they have for us now. That is the Three stooges in the White Houses fault. If it was about protecting us hear then we would have spent the money and effort to secure our borders here at home. How have they been attacking us for decades? I don't recall anyone from Iraq being on those planes. Bush has balls alright. The balls to take our rights away, keep us in fear, manipulate the constitution to his liking. You are right about one thing. It does make me sick to my stomach when I look at where he has taken us as a country. Good administration,What a joke....

Oct. 14, 2006, 9:41 p.m.NoParty - "This has been a war against 'fundamentalist' Islam from day one. That is who attacked us. "
Iraq was not a Islamic Fundamentalist state. There was no threat against us from Iraqi Islamic Fundamentalists, and Bush never used that as a justification to go to war. He viewed Sadam and is WMD's as a threat, and that was his justification. The Islamic Fundamentalists we who attacked us were in Afghanistan. That is where the fight was, and that is where it should have stayed.

Oct. 15, 2006, 1:39 p.m.Saddam was and IS hated by the Muslim Fundamentalists, because his was a secular government. When we invaded, we were so anxious to protect the oil fields that the borders were left wide open. The invasion fulfilled the prophesies of Bin Laden --with open borders, the anti-American forces poured into Iraq. That created the mess we are now in. Our actions in destabliizing this country have now killed far more Iraqui's than Saddam and his people did in 20 years!!
Our nation will be paying the price for Bush's mistakes for centuries. Thank God we have lots of "illegal" aliens to draft!!

Oct. 14, 2006, 6:59 p.m.There are so many things wrong with this plan. Over the next decade, the full toll in human lives taken and destroyed in Iraq may range in the millions. This is because of the insidiousness of the nuclear war we have been raging in the region: the use of depleted and undepleted uranium munitions which causes fatal cancers and monstrous birth defects.
The only liberation we'll have offered Iraq in the final analysis is liberation from their mortal coils.
We can also expect tens of thousands of veteran American soldiers from this misadventure developing terminal cancer in the coming years. We'll also see mutagenic anomalies in their offspring. This is already happening. Unfortunately, our brain-dead sycophantic corporate media amnesia industry is not reporting what the American people should be informed about.

Oct. 14, 2006, 7:48 p.m.Dumbya Bush is a pathological liar, a sociopathic war-criminal, a cretinous, moronic, idiot with the mentality of a dog turd. Rice, Cheney, and the rest of the gang are just as bad. Rove is the most evil genius in the history of politics. He could probably get the Constitution amended to give Dumbya a third term if there were enough money in it for him. But since they have already looted the national treasury and left us with the largest deficit in history, there is no more money to steal!

Dont forget these terrorist were trying to kill us when Clinton was in office. Typical for republics to have to clean up the mess the Dem left behind. America is proud to stand up for peoples rights and thats what we are doing in Iraq-giving them rights to freedom. You don't belong in America, We are proud of not only my son but all the other sons who have sacrificed so you can walk around with your twisted Ideas. why don't you go listen to cnn and spare us your radical Ideas....

Oct. 14, 2006, 10:04 p.m.1robert027 - Let me start by saying that I greatly appreciate you sons service to this country. I support our men and women over there with all my heart. They are in my thoughts everyday, and I pray that he comes home safely. However I should point out that terrorists have been trying to kill us long before Clinton came to office. They've just been getting better at it.
You said - "Typical for republics to have to clean up the mess the Dem left behind".
When Clinton ordered the cruise missle attack to get Osama the Republicans in congress were stepping on each other to get to a microphone and accuse Clinton of "wagging the dog". Your party didn't give a rats a$$ about Osama.

Oct. 15, 2006, 12:55 a.m.CNN is about as radical as a navy blue suit and white shirt.
No sons should be sacrificed for any people.
If America is truly proud to stand up for people's rights, then its citizens should not be telling other citizens to go live in a war zone just for voicing different opinions.
Let's recall other "twisted ideas": American colonies' independence from British rule, ending slavery, allowing children of all skin colors to attend school together...

We didn't send your son over there! GWB did after he said it was all over but the clean up. I'm a vet, my 8 brothers and 2 sisters are vets, and my dad is a WWII vet. Oct. 14, 2006, 11:21 p.m.1robert,
We all know who flew those planes and where their leaders were and are. They are still in Afghanistan and GWB pulled many troops out of there leaving him free to hide and put them into Iraq who was posing no threat to us. Yep they were costing us money enforcing the no fly zones and such, but they were and still are no threat.
They attack our troops cause we are an invading occupation army. Many terrorist from other countries cross the border into there because we have upset things so much they are free to do as they wish in Iraq.
No matter what else Saddam, as bad as he was, was a secularist leader and didn't want any of the religious fundamentalists in his country cause they would be a threat to his rule. No our leaders turned that non threatening situation into one of the biggest threats around today. Not because they were a threat but because we invaded and made it almost a safe haven for terrorists. And we still stay there between two sides in a religious civil war. No place for any intelligent country to be.

Oct. 14, 2006, 9:30 p.m.The US is a Constitutional Republic, yet to Bush's handlers, the globalist Neocons, that is not part of the agenda. In an entirely Orwellian fashion they have attempted to change the meaning of "Democracy" and adopt it as a form of governance to fit their agenda. The word democracy originates from three Greek words meaning "the people", "to rule," and the suffix Ã;Âa; the term therefore means "rule by the people" by which is meant rule by the majority. continued:

LuvMerlyn4Ever
Oct. 14, 2006, 9:31 p.m.The framers of the U.S. Constitution were notably cognizant of what they perceived as a danger of majority rule in oppressing freedom of the individual or "Tyranny of the majority". For example, James Madison, in Federalist Paper No. 10 advocates a republic over a democracy precisely to protect the individual from the majority. However, at the same time, the framers carefully created democratic institutions and major open society reforms within the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. They kept what they believed were the best elements of democracy, but mitigated by a balance of power and a layered federal structure.continued:

Oct. 14, 2006, 9:31 p.m.Reasons so far:
1) Saddam's got a nukular bomb
2) okay, WMD's
3) okay, he might get 'em
4) maybe not, but he helped do 9/11
5) maybe not, but he did torture
6) okay, so do we, but Iraq needs "democracy"
7) okay, maybe an Islamic Republic?
8) at least they voted
9) okay, there might still be civil war, but
10) if we don't fight 'em there we'll have to fight 'em here
11) okay, we're fighting 'em here, too, but
12) We're turning the corner
13) maybe next year
14) if we "cut and run" it dishonors the dead
15) if we leave they'll follow us!
16) okay, maybe not, but this is just like WWII
17) They're Nazis!
18) Omaha Beach! Iwo Jima!
19) Okay, my granddaddy was a Nazi collaborator, but Osama says this is WWIII and I'll be embarrassed if we leave. We know he's right, right?
20) Okay, Maliki's making out with Ahmedinejad, but Osama says Iraq's important.
21) We know we said we'd pay for the war with their oil, but we drilled a dry hole-- now gas is expensive and it's their fault!
-

Oct. 14, 2006, 11:36 p.m.zonkra--
22)Gas isn't expensive (where are you buying your gas?) and you need to learn how to spell 'nuclear'..
23)And 'IF' and that's a big 'IF', we need to torture some prisoner's, then so what?
24)Do you honestly think that a terrorist would even think twice about torturing an American?
25)I'm really tired of you Lib's whining and crying about the war..
26)Go ahead and find Osama, tell him to stop hating Americans and not to bring down anymore buildings..
27)After he tortures you, come on back and tell us all how it went..
28)If we go by what you think we should, we'd better start stocking up on guns and ammo because the war will be in downtown USA..Have a nice day
