Oct. 11, 2006, 1:14 a.m.Wow...very interesting.
I think fox is right. These reporters never had a case.
There is nothing illegal with slanting a story.

Oct. 11, 2006, 1:33 a.m.joe,
does journalism differ from commentary? if fox tells us the freeway through boston fell down, must we consider whether it might be true because the source is fox?
there is an implicit agreement between source and reader/viewer that statements presented as factual are in fact true. if fox can choose when to lie without the viewer knowing, nothing is left of journalism. it all becomes random statements that may or may not be true. so why watch it?

Oct. 11, 2006, 1:46 a.m.It's not that Fox was lying, as I understand it, it was that they wanted to let Monsanto lie in the story with out showing them to be the lies they were.
The problem as I see it is that the agreement between source and viewer is implicit.
Granted, trying to legally inforce a law against slanting a story would be difficult...and it should be....but it might have caught a case as basic as this one.

Oct. 11, 2006, 2:20 a.m.Well... there was an OLD saying --- "Don't believe what you hear and only HALF of what you see." And it may be right, too.

Oct. 11, 2006, 2:25 a.m.FOX is not a 24hr news channel because most of their shows favor Republican views and support Republican candidates. So they are not 100% biased and therefore lose alot of credibility when it comes to politics. Putting spins on stories and encouraging verbal aggression is the way they do business. So their broadcast news is not for everybody.

Oct. 11, 2006, 4:35 a.m.It's called Fox NEWS, not Fox PR. If what the journalists were saying if verifiable, Fox is completely out of order in comandeering the content of the report. In credible news outlets, there is a strict separation between editorial and managerial roles.
I makes you wonder what else we're not being told.

Oct. 11, 2006, 7:50 a.m.Perhaps the appeals court realized that if FOX was found "guilty as charged" the case would be cited in future suits brought against the other news outlets for doing the same thing, which they certainly do.

Oct. 11, 2006, 8 a.m.Thats in addition to the fact that the court was not the proper venue for the complaint in the first place. No one likes a whiner who hears the bell ring but doesn't know where the clapper hangs. The proper place would have been this soapbox. Most of you would accept the pap without question.

Oct. 11, 2006, 8:33 a.m.A lie is hard to deal with, when the truth can set you free. Naturally one of these is a Florida court. Remember the vote incident during the first presidential election, with hanging chads. Think of how many millions of people have been duped, manipulated, physically & mentally because of lies and cover ups, due to our government officials misuse of the news media. With buying a lot of stock in big corporations, a stock holder can yield a lot of bullying power to get their way. Much like a rich lobbyist in Congress. It hasn't been just one media that has gotten away with it. Even some of our little local news stations will say one thing and counter act it the next night. At least they correct it. It is the supreme Courts that brazenly rule in favor of the lie. That is why a judge should only hold a lengthen term in that office. Temptation of money and power is a human failing that is hard for even the smartest human to say no to.

Oct. 11, 2006, 10:02 a.m.Interesting! When ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC distort the truth or slant the news, it's media freedom of speech. When Fox News does it, it is being biased, lying, or call it what you want. The truth is, "two wrongs don't make a right," and they are all leaving us wondering who is being truthful! And we lose because we argue about stupid stuff, and have to figure who is telling us the truth, or who is not lying as much as the other one!

Oct. 11, 2006, 11:14 a.m.Well, I don't see the problem here. The nazi liberal media has been lying and distorting the news for years. Ask Dan Rather and the crooks at the Clinton News Network. U don't ever hear liberals complaining about that. Now they are acting like the liberals. Assuming of course this isn't just more crap spread by the liberals, which I'm sure it is.

Oct. 11, 2006, 11:50 a.m.This is why regulation is a mandatory requirement of a healthy society. Corporate entities naturally exploit people without regulation. If they don't, their comptetitor will and finish them in the process.

Oct. 11, 2006, 12:17 p.m.In a way, this story is scarier than the one about N. Korea setting off a nuke. Wait! DID they set off a nuke? Damn, now how can we be sure? Dirty, filthy, lying S.O.B. news corporations. I doubt whether any of them would know the truth if it bit them in the ass. Here's what happens when you let g'damn LAWYERS get control.

Oct. 11, 2006, 12:19 p.m.All Washington political figures are fronting on TV because they know it is being covered up by law enforcement thugs and FBI in NYC/NJ. All these political figures are stooges for powerful media figures, hoping to profit from their petty antics on TV. Show business celebrities are no better. This national coast to coast act is one of the reasons why the World Trade Center was destroyed on 9/11. 9/11 is 911 the police emergency network number, never mentioned.
I am a dissident according to law enforcement in NYC/NJ and FBI as an excuse not be held financially responsible in a lawsuit. The media does not want to pay millions. The telephone companies are a disgrace themselves who don't want to pay. There is nothing in print about 9/11 being 911 the police emergency telephone number, the same numbers, the same date. The authorities are a disgrace as is the media and the telephone companies.
Prez hopefuls are paving their way to the White House on World Trade Center graves.
