How sad that our children are not even safe in schools. Why is it so easy for kids to get a hold of a gun?

What a shame that not even our children are safe at school. Terrorrists are not the only ones who kill.

The problem IS NOT that the kids are getting a hold of a weapon.

The problem is that they WANT TO KILL other children.

well what does bush have to say? nothing wait a week before anything is done. this is another terrorist attack, just because they are american and don ;t belong to some radical group doesnt mean they arent instilling terror in people. looks like the metal detectors and searches at our schools didnt do much but invade childrens privacy and instill a militaristic state. too bad we can't read their minds, but wait maybe talking to them might work, setting up programs to show that they, though not owners of oil companies and maybe don't have any money to contribute to your campaign are still americans and deserve such things, also to the latte drinkin shrinks maybe spankin your kid did work? heheheheh

So sad if not a gun then something else. People will find a way. I still say we as parents need to take more time teaching our kids. You just can't go around placing the blame on everything else. I have 3 kids and I always made it a point to take time with each of them everyday. I feel so bad for the this country and the people who are in the way of someone elses rage. You ask "why is it so easy for our kids to get ahold of guns." Because we as parents have no clue as to what our kids are doing. When was the last time most parents sat down and ask your kids 'who are your friends, where do go, what do you do, are there drugs involved, is there drinking, and then as a parent check on what they tell you. I always did, I just took the time to be in their lives and never afraid to check out their answers to make sure the truth was being told. May God bless and keep safe the kids and adults in that school.

If you take away the guns, you don't take away the seething rage and hatred that society caused and instilled into these children. In countries where guns were banned, homicides with knives and clubs went up. Then they had to ban knives, e.g. Scotland. Then they will have to ban glass bottles and piano wires, and eventually karate lessons, and closed fists, and hateful words, etc. Deal with the real problem, which is most likely unaddressed bullying by real psychopaths.

Guns are a problem for tyrannical governments who will exploit school shootings as a reason to disarm citizens to make way for a police state. Solution to this problem, arm the teachers with guns. Then you'll restore their authority and power and respect. This would have prevented school massacres and plane hijackings. It works for the police, who should have nothing to fear from a law abiding society - so it should work for us too.

from reading all the posts on here......hmmmm, i wonder where the kids learn it ! And yes, you do detect a note of sarcasm. All our kids have to do is listen to the way we talk and spew things out of our mouth.

It really is too bad you can't actually hear some of these posts being spoken....you never know the true "tone of voice" in what is being said.

Rrated...I agree with what you said, children do learn from their parents, grandparents, relatives, or whoever they happen to be living with.

We have got to step up to the plate and do a better job of teaching our children what is right and what is wrong.

it's still all about what you allow your kids to see....our fathers grew up watching wrestling, (but it wasn't anything like what we watch now) and we watched it with him. NOw we watch it and allow our kids to watch it with us, so forth and so on.

Sage, I do agree with your comment too, but I think we carry a lot of things too far and that is where the parents have to step in for their kids and decide what is acceptable and what is not. You have some interesting posts by the way. :)

its hard to even put into words about all the things that are going on, for one if your gonna give teachers or the school system a weapon what good is it if a team of boys that are alot bigger and can bring you down and take your weapon and use it on who ever they want to. my point is if your gonna carry one you better be ready at all times to use it, dont let be there weapon. and it will if you dont know when and how to use a weapon and to keep your cool at all times.

It is far easier to attack a group of individuals with a gun than it is with a knife or the other weapons mentioned. Yes, people kill people but a gun is a catalyst for vilolenrt behaviour.....instant power. There will always be access to illegal weapons...make the penalty for having illegal weapons severe as well as the penalities for improper storage of the legal ones severe. Do people need to have a hand gun in the house....don't think so.

The federal budget for the program "Safe & Drug-Free Schools" was cut ten million dollars this year.

Next year, 2007 it is scheduled to be cut again.

Eventually, in the evolution of funding, the program will be done away with all together.

The federal government expects state & local agencies to continue the program.

I think we all should remember the realities of the people in New Orleans during, and after Katrina. The message came through loud & clear- "Sorry 'bout yer luck", Folks, but you're on your own!"

In a prior incident, the kid had thrown a stapler at a teacher and a chair at the principal, and he was suspended. Apparently, the kid came back to school with a gun. The kid is 15 years old. Too many people who should not be having kids are having kids. The genetic makeup of people is weakening greatly. The mutant genes obviously are taking over. The kid's personality is directly linked to his parents.

Kids will emulate what they see in this worls. Some the rock star image ...some the sports star ...then there are those that see the attention that violence may get them. Is it their family life...their peers or the media they view and listen to, that send them in that direction...you have the situation now that politicians speak of finding and KILLING a terrorist...not BRINGING TO JUSTICE. Not a good example for kids that are on the edge....this could easily validate there actions to injure and kill the ones they percieve as the people that are causing the hurt in their mind.

Teachers are given no authority over kids today in school, so the kids think they have free reign. I gave the school permission to paddle my son if he misbehaved and believe me he has never misbehaved in school.

Teachers now are now afraid to take action , when a student is a problem and why should they if their career is at stake. The kids know this and push the limits.
