Sept. 22, 2006, 3:40 p.m.The articles says ""I make black records," she (Knowles) says indignantly." So what is this "black records?" I thought all records were CDs these days and the day of the black vinyl records was out. Any indigenous Black Indian American listening to Knowles music (which Knowles music is allegedly aimed at) would have a hard time associating it with classic R&B or Soul or Jazz or any of the other indigenous American music. Isn't Knowles father of immigrant black euro Negro ancestry and her mom of euro white descent? This would also explain why her european music isn't selling in the indigenous American community. Then there was all the criticism about her alleged immoral behavior at the BET Awards. Yet not a word about this in the white press. Remember all the press about MJ's "Black or White" video? how 'immoral' his dancing was made out to be by whites? BTW, what's this "ghetto pass" that Knowles is supposed to have?

Sept. 22, 2006, 4:13 p.m.Well, I think there is a lot racism in the music industy to begin with. I think there may some frustration with black artist because even though they are famous they are still sensitve to it. I mean honestly how man black ROCK artist are out there getting TV exposure and support from labels. And blacks were the creators of Rock and Roll and now they can't even get a band launched with a black front man unless he is Prince or Lenny Kravitz.
I honestly feel that unless you fit into some kinda of cookie cutter image labels will not support or promote you. So in short racism breeds racism.

Sept. 22, 2006, 4:27 p.m.Wow! I never knew she was such a racist ******. She sounds about as dumb as Natalie Maines w/the Dixie Chicks. Oh well, I'll never listen to her music again. It might be "too black" for me.

Sept. 22, 2006, 4:36 p.m.Bobcat6: Well said. I vow never to listen to her music again. And by the way, how does one gauge the blackness or whiteness of music? Just curious.

Sept. 22, 2006, 4:55 p.m.I am really surprised and disappointed that this woman has such racist attitudes. Shame on her.....

Sept. 22, 2006, 4:56 p.m.maybe she forgot that she was a member of a minority that also has a minority of the disposable income. she coulda at least said she wrote music for hispanics, widen her demographic. not orientals or jews or arabs tho, who cares about them, they don't buy 'records'
and nobody buys records anymore.
and everybody made black records.
that's what color they were
in short, another goofy entertainer with a big mouth.
at least she isn't spouting off about iraq
at least she's purdy

Sept. 22, 2006, 5:07 p.m.Too bad she is talented, but she associates with a street trash drug dealer, couldn't be long before the trash side of her shows. This is probably the beggining of her end. But for all it's worth there is always someone younger and prettier to take her place.

Sept. 22, 2006, 5:12 p.m.Buy albums? Who does that anymore??

Sept. 22, 2006, 5:30 p.m.tweetypie-I don't know of a difference. I was just being sarcastic on what she said. I've never really seen a difference. The music industry seems to baffle your average racist. W/all the different music out there and the people who like what they like your average racist is usually stumped. And Beyonce' was flying so high on her success. She deserves to crash and burn in a bad way. What a biotch!

Sept. 22, 2006, 5:36 p.m.good thing i dont like her music anyways b/c i must be too white to actually listen to it
no one can control the color of their skin, who their parents were, etc, so why judge someone based upon something that's uncontrolable? it's just stupid

Sept. 22, 2006, 5:56 p.m.[including the compromises a black group has to make in crossing over. Beyoncé says compromise is one thing she doesn't have in common with Deena Jones. "I make black records," she says indignantly. "I write records like I speak, and I don't try to change my songs so everyone else likes them." It's a sensitive subject.]
The statement was:"I make black records" not I make records for black people. BIG Difference! The context of the statement here is that she does not want to change wording in her records to be more PC. She wants to use the terminology used in context. Example: "****** please" as a blunt dismissal of an unwanted male advance. Which is why she followed up with: "I make songs like I speak".
The blurb above takes what she says totally out of context and to what end?
Read the article and interpret what she has to say in the context of the situation she is describing.

Sept. 22, 2006, 5:58 p.m.Yeah they are, Considering how many lilly white politicians "accidently" use terms like "tar baby" in their speaches. I still disturbed by that one.
Oh taquito, you may thinks that blacks only listen and perform hip-hop but dont feel bad because that is what the system wants you to think. Your not the only one trapped in the system.

"God...white people are so sensitive..."
It's not just "white people", Xandra.I am black and can't condone that kind of BS. And Beyonce isn't the first talented musician to spout this kind of stupidity. A former fav of mine, Lauren Hill stated the same thing at a concert of hers I attended. I was so dissapointed, standing there holding my $70 ticket stubb, I can't even express. How can you say something like that outloud in front of God and everybody, and expect there to be no backlash. Why does it take loosing millions in record sales for these ladies to understand how bad the screwed up? I

Sept. 22, 2006, 6:21 p.m.Justin Timberlake does the same thing. He is crossover too. He does not use the ethnic slang and that is his choice. But dont tell me "SexyBack" was coined by him. It is a black term and the song is number 1 because he keeps the style of music and lyrics consistent. Authenticity is important to artists.
Incidentally the term "back" here is an "add emphasis" term. It means extremely sexy in this case.

Sept. 22, 2006, 6:25 p.m.I just find it highly amusing--Mel Gibson can talk about Jews--and then its "he's a man, he makes mistakes" or "it wasn't such a big deal" or politicians can throw ot all the macacas they want--no biggie.

Sept. 22, 2006, 6:31 p.m.Taquito said,
"Mr Breaker... Good One! I picked up the sarcasm, All of these black kids listening to Rock, good one!"
And what is that suppose to mean? There are plenty of black people that listen to rock/alternative music. Maby if you pulled your head out of your ass and not be "brainwash" like Ms. Knowles you'd realize the issue of associating music to skin color.

Sept. 22, 2006, 6:40 p.m.It's really funny to read all of these comments, because in American since the start of America "RACE" has always been and will continue to be a factor in everything! Funny how quick one forgets American "history"! Oh thats right I forgot things have changed...Black or White, thats not important any more! How quick I forget!

Sept. 22, 2006, 6:52 p.m.ItsXandraDee-
I feel you. It's not fair. And what Gibson said was MUCH worse than what Beyonce said. Maybe I didn't care because I was never a Mel Gibson fan. I was a Beyonce fan and respected her as an artist. When you respect someone, it's hard to see them do something so contrary to what you beleive is right and good. It's her true fans (especially the young, impressionable girls who looked up to her) who will actually care. When you loose respect for someone, you can't keep giving them your money.
You are right about the double standard, though. I guess we will just have to wait and see how Gibson's next movie does.
