News – Pope Benedict XVI has said he is sorry that a speech in which he mentioned Islam has offended Muslims.
You notice that he said that he was sorry that the quote angered muslims ; not that it was untrue . He also did not say that he is sorry that he quoted the man he did . As much as I do not care for the catholic church the sentiments of this pope have been correct on muslims , and he has nothing to appologize for; except for not taking a stronger stand against them . Of course this pope was a member of the Hitler youth , and the Nazi regime was condoned by the catholic church . The Nazi goverment was also closely allied with a lot of muslim nations ... things that make you go hmmmmm.
When people quit being so PC towards the muslim faith , then the whole world will be better off. It is true , while most muslims are not terrorist , most terrorist are muslims.

I believe the Pope was just adding an historical reference, making the point that violence and Islam have been iterrelated for a long time dating back to the time of the quote - and before. Does it ~have~ to be that way? No. It is a religion with the same one God, Allah (meaning Father), as Christanity and the Jewish faith. They have beautiful rituals and those that practice are very devout. It is a disservice to islam that members of the Muslim faith themselves connect their faith and violence (jihad...) This has been going on for a long time, to point it out is not a "bashing" but only a statement of the obvious. Their leaders should try truly embracing peace and spreading their faith peacefully and condeming, both verbally and physically, those in their own faith who spread violence ANYWHERE to ANYONE. Does anyone see the happening anything soon though?

The point is blowing people up, killing people, especially in the name of God - waging war on non-Muslisms (infidels I believe) is wrong. And before you say it - it is just as wrong for Christians and Jews to do it also. BUT, that is not the present case. It's not - but they might want to make it seem so - because then we'll be busy apologizing and they be busy doing what they are doing. Case in point - any present given news day.
He doesn't need to apologize to the worlds biggest hypocrits. Iranians and Palestinians(just to name a couple major Muslim populations *not a sterotype, a fact) cheered in the streets when the towers went down and they never apologized for celebrating the death of so many innocents. Maybe we should make the Muslims apologize for everything Saddam has ever said ad done, or the president of Iran apologize for saying the Holocaust was a myth and that Israel should be wiped off the map, because, after all, THAT WASN"T OFFENSIVE TO ANYONE? right? As for fr1969usa, the only religion that's killing right now is the Muslim religion. It isn't Christians blowing up buses filled with Jewish commuters. Likewise, it wasn't Jewish radicals that destroyed the World Trade Center.

It nice to see you state that, a wise and true statement indeed. If you read my post you know I'm critical of Islam but stating such on a world stage is very reckless. It made me think about comments I've made regarding Islam and I realize I need to be more careful with what I say. God Bless.
No rw, that is not apparent to me. and you call the Pope a coward? For apologizing? But he didn't - that's WHY they're pi**ed off. And he won't apologize any further. He obviously didn't mean to anger them but they get angry at EVERYTHING. It's a ploy to keep you defensive. You must have known people like this. You have to do what he has done - look them in the eye and basically say "It is the truth, I'm sorry it angers you. It is still the truth."
Not being Catholic does not put me at ends with the Pope or the Holy Roman Catholic Church. Being Christian puts me at ease and in step with other Christians that praise, worhship and accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. All others, this includes the Islamics, we pray for so that they will see the true Savior of this world. True Christianity does not want to kill off anyone. We truthfully believe that "none should perish".
I am not against what the Pope said. Furthermore, he should not have to appologize for a religion that advocates killing of nonbelievers...
I am sorry that the Pope backed down from using the Bible as his source of wisdom. Unfornatlly, he, the Pope, appeared that he was sorry that what he had to say, from Scripture, offended the Islamics.

Second Vatican Council destroyed logical consistency of catholic doctrine introducing idea of compatibility between mosaic and mahometan faiths and teachings of the catholic church. Before situation was relatively clear. Gods of jews and mahometans were different from Holy Trinity and most likely represented evil forces of the universe that were trying to prevent salvation of humanity. This was an intolerant view but any eternal truth is intolerant of false doctrines. Without such background there is no sense to send any missionaries to pagans in efort to save their souls. I do not really see any logical solution of this problem besides atheism. However masses seem to have a need to believe in something spiritual.
I think education is the key, but you cant educate children when thier fathers rule them like a dictator and refuse to let them learn and become wise themselves. They must take every word as law from thier elders, who twist and manipulate everything to thier own gain. Religeon is easily the biggest reason for murder in the world. But considering the population explosion, maybe the world could use a little more war. It is hard to have compassion on the poor ignorant people of the world when all they can think of is "how can we kill a Christian/American. Thier hatred motivates everything. When their favorite goat decides that she likes another goat better than the shepard, it is America's fault and they must be punished. It must be tough to think that you are the most devine creature in the world and when everyone else looks at you like your an idiot, all that is left is to kill everyone that dissagrees.

When you have a doctrine that says you are devine, you dont want to give that up, nobody wants to realize that we are all just organisms that have evolved on this planet very recently and have come into the power to do mass distuction to each other before we have realized who and what we are. Everyone holds on to something, How many people in America believe that in thier past, the was a KING? Even though that King was just a guy who was the leader of 10 or 12 people who was wealthy enough to own 30 goats and 2 cows, and they wandered all over the desert cooking thier food on cow dung. I think everyone should start from here, and make thier lives according to who they are and what they want to be in the future, not by what someone said inthe past. People need to wake up and realize that religeon is just a tool to rule the masses.
I agree with you rw1969USA...It is true to me as well, that if 'God' does exist, and is all powerful and omnipotent, then what does He/She care whether we believe in him or not? Our belief does not add to or take away from God's power. Man has attributed most if not all of his primitive ideals to a supreme being, whom they believe takes sides in our petty bickering..

Man created religion in order to appease their immense suffering at the hands of other men; they created a God in heaven who is merciful and attentive to their need for salvation from suffering, while simultaneously creating a place of unspeakable horror for their enemies. I am not against any body questioning any belief but it's wrong to attack blindly, there are texts which explain things and a Muslim is bound to answer regarding his religion, we take no offence on that in fact we welcome, what we don't like is abuse Selman Rushdy style or the cartoon affair. Debates and dialogs are always welcome it can bring people together, there is no compulsion in religion, you go your way I go my way Islam tells those who don't believe.

it is time for the world to grow up. the pope said that muslims are violent cuz uh alot of them are. there is violence in christian history as well but they grew up in their religious beliefs and aren't launchin holy wars anymore. the catholic church has even accepted evolution and MOST christians will agree with it. Most muslims havent grown in religious thought and that is why were in the state we are in.
